The Financial Times’ award-winning podcast series Hot Money is back. In this series our reporter Miles Johnson investigates a mysterious murder in a small town that leads to a web of drugs, money laundering and state-sponsored assassinations stretching from Dublin to Dubai. In the late 1990s, after the cold blooded murder of an Irish crime reporter, the Irish government introduced legislation creating a new crime fighting unit.
The Criminal Asset Bureau or CAB.
This unit has elements of police, income tax and Social Welfare.
It's remit is to find the assets of Criminals and sieze them. They do not prosecute the criminals. Often there is not enough evidence for that. ( The serious crime squad investigates with a view to prosecute.
It is up to the Criminal to prove their assets were legally obtained.
How can a person living on Social own a top of range BMW, Rolex watch and own a house without a mortgage?
The CAB sieze all assets after getting High Court approval.
The Assets are sold and proceeds given ro the state. The state then reinvest the money in the CAB. In that way the unit is self financing.
It hands over 50 million Euro every year to the state every year.
Latest Coup is 158 Million Euro of drugs and ship bought specially bought for global distribution of drugs.
IRISH government are working with British, French, Spanish, Dutch and American law officers to combat the trug trade.
They know that no 1 country working on its own will succeed but together United they will not be defeated.
The Irish Legislation is copied in many countries now.
Hitting the Criminal where it hurts them.the most.
    In the pickets.
Drug Barrons pay money to families of their convicted minions.

Intro too long. You can’t have an intro which is 1/6th of the content. Just get on with it.
