Wasn't sure if the duck was going to make it through her dog attack. But she clearly proved to be a fighter.

Thank you for your wonderful video on how to care for a duck that’s been injured. We had a duck injured by a hawk and the whole backside of his neck is showing where are using some of your techniques to help restore it to health if that’s possible to do her injury was much more severe but thank you. You’ve helped me a lot.

Hi! How did your duck do? I'm currently going through this with my dog attacking my favorite and best duck. He is the leader of the flock and I'd hate to lose him. I've been cleaning and addressing his wounds this evening. It's only been a few hours. I'm praying so hard for just a miracle for him to make it. Would love to hear how your duck turned out. Much love from another duck lover. 🦆❤

I'm currently going through this right now, my dog got our favorite and best duck. He's the leader of the flock and I'm praying for a miracle of a recovery. Your ducks injuries look very similar to mine, so I am very hopeful with what you've shared. Thank you ever so much for your video. It's the only one out there like it. And it's very encouraging.

I feel for you! Very sad. I have 3 Jumbo Peking ducks and two got attacked by something. Looked like yours thinking Coyote couldn't see it was too dark when I ran outside hearing noise. I brought one to vet and of course they didn't expect a duck. But none the less there was an assistant avian guy who was learning available and he said slap some manuka honey on it. They clipped the feathers around wound for me and stitched it up a little to help the healing process but they said its important to leave it open and apply the honey. You guys did such a great job!

Our top hat 🎩 duck was bitten in the front chest!!
We are not sure what attacked it. 😢
Possibly a fox? What animal goes into a chicken coop and just injures the animals without eating it?

We just put peroxide on the wound. It helped the wound clean and it closed by itself as days and weeks past

@@TheMcKeelsWoodworks , my duck has an open wound about the size of a nickel, I have been using peroxide and Epsom salts - do you think it will close?

Yeah. Just try and keep the duck Clean, don't want to get infected

@@francescapps7394 yes. Just make sure it’s not too close with other ducks. They have the tendency to poke the wounds and it won’t heal.

I read chlorhexidine or betaine is best. Peroxide and alcohol based can't sting and damage tissue. But clearly it works as well. I'm trying diluted chlorhexidine and some herbal medications. Wishing I had known about the honey and had some on hand.. mine is all eaten up on the back end...😭

Our duck seemed to get trampled by our dog, no puncture wounds but he isn’t able to walk at the moment, no visible signs of a broken leg, but not sure what we should do.

In my opinion, I would try and clean the wounds with hydrogen peroxide. Then if possible, keep the duck clean and out of mud or animal poop. Our duck was really bad, and she recovered to full health. But we worked really hard to keep her well. Wishing all the best for you!
Since this video, we no longer have ducks.

I keep a large bird coup with several chickens, roosters, ducks, and a turkey.. we have them separated into groups by age and we recently got two duck hatchlings at ab 3 weeks old… they’re currently ab 5-6 weeks old and unfortunately, something has been breaking into our coup and hurting(killing) our birds.. the night before last, whatever it was, beheaded one of our two young ducklings… I found the rodent’s entry point and filled/covered it with heavy rocks, secured the chicks in that enclosure and last night, I secured the remaining duckling.. I didn’t get to do all that yesterday until dusk.. so I guess, in the dark, I didn’t realize the remaining duckling is also injured. There’s no way he could’ve done this to himself in the enclosure I secured him in last night. So I’m reckoning that this duckling tried to help his brother during this attack the other night and got himself either bit or scratched as well. I went to let him out of the enclosure I put him in last night and noticed blood on his bill and on his foot, as well as scattered throughout the hay in their enclosure.. so I figured I’d take all the hay out, and clean out the entire enclosure to get the blood and it’s smell out of what’s essentially this duck’s bed.. and I figured when I was done with that, I’d take this duckling and give him a bath so he isn’t stuck smelling his brother’s blood.. when I let him out of his enclosure this morning, he went straight to a corner in the coup and laid down, he isn’t making much vocal noise and at first, I just thought he was emotionally traumatized.. but his left wing is cut open in at least two locations. I’m still not quite sure how bad the injury is but I don’t think it’s life threatening. However, Ik an infection could change that. What do I do to clean him and dress his wounds? I was initially planning on bathing him with dawn dish soap but now that it’s apparent that he has an open flesh wound, idk if that’s safe to use. ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS GRACIOUSLY WELCOME.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your situation. We had chickens for about a year without any little visitors, but the first week we had ducks there were multiple times where predators came.
A snake ate of the ducklings. A dog attacked another. And big birds took the others. . . I believe it is their smell. Predators can smell them and they are practically defenseless so it makes for an easy meal.
My advice is to let your duck rest and slowly build his strength. Ducks are really tough and they heal quickly.
But how to keep them safe. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas because our cage was sealed tight and animals still found a way.
Please let us know the end of your story!

Dogs are dogs, they come from Wolves and coyotes, they have large canines for a reason. The problem is not with the dogs it's the owners. If i own a pet tiger that kills your ducks well people will loose their minds. Keep the dog away from the duck regardless of your feelings, things can turn instantly with wildlife and your helpless
