Rick Nelson, Randy Meisner At The Troubadour 1969 (Stereo Audio-Video upgrade)

  • My favourite part of Rick's career. The original Easy to Be Free special has been re-edited with stereo audio and remixed to create more of a full concert experience rather than a documentary as original envisioned by David Nelson.

@@drlucio No , I met Ricky as he left the door to his recording as we went in ... The person I was with said now don't get all jumpy just be calm and I'll introduce you to him.. then he went in and played the violin part. Ricky was just as I had imagined and said hello it's nice to meet you , we shook hands and that was it. I was blown away by the whole circumstance.. the person I was with played violin for the lassie show in the 50s And 60s. Played the violin for glen Campbell's I am a lineman for the county, Linda ronstands you're no good , Eurythmics here comes the rain again ,.all of Dan folgerbergs songs. And was first seat violin for the LA philharmonic.. I lived with that family when I was a teenager over the cliffs of the ocean in Los Angeles Pacific Palisades in 1971 .. listen to the violin in those songs and you can tell his signature sound in violin.. he was the top studio . musician at the time for bands and movies .. I was always blown away living there .. those were the days..

And Randy took everything he learned from this experience with him to the Eagles, when it was really Rick who first blended country, folk, with rock and roll and created the embryo of the Southern California Rock sound. And this a great sound from all the musicians as opposed to the auto tuned, computerized sound you get now from every genre including country music.

Too bad that Tom Brumley wasn’t featured or even mentioned in the video. His work on the pedal steel was a defining contribution to the sound of the Stone Canyon Band. So why are the Eagles given all the credit for starting Southern California Rock? The evidence is here with Rick Nelson and the band including future Eagles member Randy Meisner who took this experience with him to the Eagles. The fickle public and smart ass critics would let Rick Nelson out of the "Ricky Cage" that's why. Rick wrote a lot of these songs! The harmonies are all there. Yet Rick Nelson got into the Rook and Roll Hall Fame BEFORE the Eagles did.

Thanks Dennis. Happy that it's new to you. One of my favourite Rick lps is the Live At the Troubadour and luckily some of it was filmed. Would love to see outtakes though at this stage probably unlikely.

I like how he "renamed" the twins in the song from "Bren and Lin" are the family twins to "Gunnar and Matthew are the family twins".

Even Doug Kershaw started using Rick's twin's names for the song after Rick did it.

Yes, many people don’t know Elvis took James Burton for his live shows in the seventies to fill the big shoes of Scotty Moore. Not an an task. They are both such great guitar pickers.

His guitars and music equipment were worth more now then what he had back then incredible had all his albums went to wards and penny’s and sears bought all of them when they were closing in the 70s the day he died they lied there ass off about him . Loved his music and singing ability . Dylan had him trying to change but he was normal and wanted money.Tried to fit in with Elvis dying he did amusement parks so sad .

Great film. One thing, the caption has it as "She's an Artist." It should be "She Belongs to Me" - a great tune by Bob Dylan that Rick made his own. Matt and Gunnar do a great version of it as well.
