I’m slightly confused what making a debut means. I mean I know it means you made an appearance in something but I thought Fumi did Sleeping Beauty I think so didn’t she already make a debut? Or is it like for ballet each time you’re in a new role, you make a new debut?
I attended their performance that came after this rehearsal and it was one of the most amazing experiences. I have seen Romeo and Juliet performed several times now but William's interpretation of the role is sublime, he embodies Romeo, and Fumi is incredibly beautiful and passionate, a performance I will cherish in my heart for a long time to come.
Fumi and William B are glorious as Romeo and Juliet - spectacular artistry ; beautiful technique and lines - oozing with chemistry ! ( that's important in R&J) looking forward to the day William B is made a principal dancer -
The move at 9:10 where William races after Fumi with a boyish grin, and catches her and spins her towards him is just.... I have absolutely no words. It made my heart skip a beat. Their chemistry is absolutely beautiful, both are incredible dancers that bring complexity and such a warm and vivid depth to their roles. I would love to have seen them perform, or at least, I would love to be able to see the entire show. Absolutely incredible.
I'm so happy to see Fumi Kaneko and William Bracewell dancing R & J. I just started to see William being featured suddenly and really glad of his addition to ROH. He's fantastic in everything he's danced I've watched recently. Great looks, great technically as well. He'll be promoted to a principal soon I'm sure. To be honest I was hoping ROH to bring male dancers who are tall beside Vadim and a few others who aren't featured very much (I guess they're not principals yet) along the way. McMillan choreography in this. It instantly brings the
Ed watson is a treasure to the Ballet world. Especially for male dancing...he has worked SO hard to find the wisdom he is sharing now with younger dancers....I have so much respect for him !
William B. absolutely amazing. His lines are sooooo beautiful . Her opening turns into leg ,Front ,Side back ... OMG I was so moved and it is 7:30am in Germany when I watched this ,and before coffee.
This is beautiful And they fit so well together. I've seen three different choreographies of this wonderful ballet, and in my mind the MacMillan is by far the best. He interprets Prokofiev's music perfectly. MacMillan's use of stillness is just so - apt! And that lovely bit where Romeo takes hold of Juliet's skirt! I am a complete amateur where ballet is concerned, and know nothing about how to set a ballet, but MacMillan's choreography to this laywoman shows two youngsters overwhelmed by their feelings for each other, trying to make sense of it.all Absolute Magic!
Your performance was excellent! 👏👏👏 Fumi, you made me cry with your movements while being carried as dead from Romeo, one of the most heartbreaking views I’ve seen. 👏👏👏
One year later it still bring chills watching them dance one of my favorite ballet R & J. They are perfectly matched in all aspects of this piece. The secureness of Bracewell and crisp movements of hands and fingers (and of course facial expressions ) of Kaneko. This 75 year old man almost got teary eyed, thanks to their artistry.
What a brilliant rehearsal, the magnificent piano accompaniment played with such skill and depth of emotion by Kate, gave William and Fumi the extraordinary platform to dance with such passion. Pure goosebumps in this partnership. Bravo!
There is so much goodness in this peek at the 2nd act Balcony pas... im thankful that the Royal Ballet shared this. The dancers are superb and their amazing rehearsal coachs are just perfect. Encouraging, exact intheir requests and notes...its makes for a wonderful journey and sublime performance. Happy World Ballet day to the entire Royal Ballet
Thank you to all, as this was truly stunning to watch!!! Both Ms Kaneko and Mr Bracewell are extraordinary dancers who have embraced the emotions of the young lovers!!!! I adore Mr MacMillan's choreography!!!! Gorgeous!!!
This is gorgeous, thrilling, incredibly beautiful and moving. They are fantastic dancers, both technically and in their outstanding acting. I really, really hope Bracewell will be promoted to Principal soon. He’s such an incredible talent! 🌟
Honestly in a hundred years of seeing this pas de deux I am always utterly captivated. Who is the source, is it MacMillan, or is it Prokoviev. And in this expression by these two artists they had me in tears at the very first when they saw each other. 👏👏 👏
Hey! If you're asking who the source is, the music is by the classical Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev and the version that the Royal Balley dances was choreographed by MacMillan :)
Amen! It has to be imminent. I think it was just delayed because Corrales was promised a principal slot when it opened as a condition of coming over to Royal. But boy oh boy does Bracewell deserve it - ASAP! A star.
Wow. It’s great to see how this is supposed to work. I’ve never seen a teaching in this. Now it’ll be even better to watch performances. They’ll get better and better. I’m no expert, but I would think that being onstage…with the orchestra… would really be inspiring for the dancers. I’d like to find the performance by these two.
Highly commendable effort on both dancers’ parts. Admirable even. This is a very, very difficult pas de deux, and these two dancers going through their paces in rehearsal reminded me of that. To Kaneko’s already formidable arsenal of gifts, I would perhaps recommend bringing Natalia Makarova in, to coach her specifically in the use of her hands. Makarova had a way with Juliet’s “swooning” hands - and arms, and head. Otherwise I would pay top dollar to see this pair in particular in R&J.
I’ve just finished watching Will in the film of the ballet of Romeo & Juliet on BBC 4. Cried my eyes out of course. I remember I recorded Wayne Eagling as Romeo many, many years ago & watched it endlessly, so I’ve always had a soft spot for this ballet. The music is of course incredible❤❤
I always wonder what the BBC cameramen make of all this work during World Ballet Day at the Royal. I genuinely wonder what they make of this thing called “ballet” while they’re filiming. If they think anything about it at all.
I think about that too. I think most people are fascinated by dancers in rehearsal, I’ve noticed that with non-dancer/dance fan friends. There’s something inherently interesting about the combination of quiet pragmatic problem solving and physical exertion and skill.
Musicians of every type, whether an orchestral musician or solo performer have to do this all the time- we're used to it. It's part of the job. And for rehearsal pianists, when it's music as magnificent as Prokofiev's score for R and J, you don't mind playing it over and over!
William is wonderful. The girl comes across a bit "fake"...you can see she has been watching loads of Ferri, Durante, ecc but it feels very very staged...yet she is technically immaculate and very sweet and pleasant! Another thing: I will never understand why dancers have such a issue when it comes to the kiss moment...most of the time it looks stiff and clunky...Dancers are also actors...they should not have inhibitions....

what about the one by ferri and corella
Too shy to kiss him at first, but then she runs and flings herself at him into a lift. It makes me smile every time.

Bracewell is one hell of an actor 👏
I love Fumi! She is so graceful.
And stiff
Exquisite performance even in rehearsal! Romeo & Juliet ❤️❤️
So pretty ! I would love to do this someday - this is just stunning
A great partnership

I feel sorry for the pianists, as they constantly have to repeat the same music. They must hear it in their sleep!

This is just a rehearsal, I'm sure they put a lot more passion into that kiss during the actual performances.
