- The conservatory in Adelaide Botanic Garden, South Australia, is one of Australia's most prized buildings. It was constructed for Australia's bicentenary in 1988 to house a tropical rainforest which is now thriving, but Rob was able to get a sneak preview inside before it opened and he explains some of the revolutionary features of this impressive building. Wow! I can't wait for 1989 to come around so we can see what it looks like!

I was a child of the 1970's and loved the Curiosity Show. Thanks Rob for your book presentation at the Salisbury Library recently.
I'm a regular at the conservatory. Some years ago they stopped using the heating system but it still looks great. As a bonus they made it free to enter.
Thanks very much - yes, I enjoyed the author's talk. The conservatory is a 'must see' for visitors to Adelaide - Rob
I remember when David Attenborough visited the conservatory to promote The Private Life Of Plants TV series. I managed to get his autograph there.
I looked after him for a few days in Adelaide. As nice a man offscreen as he is onscreen. A giant of natural history - Rob
You can see the plants from the road now. I suppose they've had 32 years to grow.
0:31 "within cooee" is an australian expression equivalent to "within near"
"Cooee" is also a clue in "The Boscombe Valley Mystery", a Sherlock Holmes story.
I hope I'm not the only one in their 30's that watch these
Why do I keep reading comments , could be. I‘m in my 40s ;)
@@uncledoc9010 I didn't watch it as a kid (USA) regardless it still gives me a high dose of nostalgia
@@uncledoc9010
I vaguely remember my 40's. 😀
I just cracked 40 does that count?
@@Optimus-Prime-Rib I should of said "over 30" lol
Walked past the place so many times but never have been in . now I have my own little jungle in my backyard in Whyalla under shade cloth even had a native frogs turn up and moved in
I live in Whyalla ,that would be fantastic to see more people doing that .
Is it still open? I remember hearing/reading somewhere that the State Government was considering closing down the Bicentennial Conservatory to save costs.
"this, a computer" so great
I think the day it opened 32 years ago was the last time I went there. I imagine all the trees and plants would be full size now.
They grow up so quickly 😢

Pretty
You are amazing.
I love how they point at a computer and its 1981 style MS DOS lol
That was cool.
How's the garden doing?
As Armchair pilot says, have a look at

I've lived in Adelaide all my life, but I have never actually been in there.

Mr Beast could learn a thing or two from this clip
I wonder how this forest looks today.

This video is fascinating, but holy hell, good sir; how did you manage to do all that talking and walking in a rain forest environment while wearing that gigantic sweater? How much weight did you lose that day just from sweat?
Anyone else look at their teachers and tell them to each ham sandwiches?
There's a really high pitch in this video that is driving me crazy, and also will annoy teenagers and below
We get a few reports of that. It seems to be some technical mismatch as we can't hear it here and it doesn't show up in any waveforms - Rob
Perhaps it's due to being filmed in PAL 50hz. In US the rate was 60hz NTSC.?
now if we could just globalize this somehow...
