    Tow Dolly's with front wheel drive are good alternative too because a trailer is hard to do in lots of campgrounds with smaller sites! But flat tow is the easiest but fewer vehicles can do it than even a few years ago!

    Nice job guys, enjoyed your video this week. All good points and you have a beautiful RV. I am a trailer guy. The great thing about my trailer behind my Renegade XL 46DBM with a 25-foot trailer. It's like a garage holds my Bronco, Honda Gold wing 3 wheeler and tools outside furniture. 99% of the time, we use pull throughs as parking. But like your car is not working, you are right. You just pack it up and move on...

      Exactly. We flat towed a vehicle for a couple yrs but I wanted to bring my Harley, and a golf cart, as well as bicycles and big gas grill. Plus a tool chest cause we all know stuff breaks on these coaches. Just made more sense to get a Stacker trailer and pile it all in there.

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +6

      We were planning to rent a U-Haul trailer actually! But our Jeep was too heavy for the car trailers they had available, by about 700 lbs. We didn’t want to drive across country with an overloaded trailer. At the time, the dealership was saying minimum 1 month to get parts and repairs. It ended up taking them 3 weeks so leaving it was the best decision to not derail all our other travel plans 😀

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +2

      Yes, definitely! The two breakdowns we’ve had were due to faulty parts and installation from Freightliner, not American Coach. Freightliner makes the chassis for a number of Coach manufacturers. We’ve been very pleased with the quality and service from American Coach and would buy another one in the future should we ever trade ours in.

Im graduating from a trade school this May and planning to search for a remote tech support position and eventually buy an RV to go full time. What minimum salary would I need to live comfortably to go full time? Thanks

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you and best of luck on finishing up school! It really all depends on the type of RV you purchase and your comfort level. We have friends that live in an RV full time and pay $500 a month for RV sites. If you don’t move as much you’ll have lower fuel costs. And depends on if you’ll have a loan for the RV and or truck if you get a trailer. It’s likely similar costs if you were living in an apartment. But again, you can do it very inexpensively.

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +1

      That’s a tough one! Reputable being the key word. Our coach is still under warranty and we’re getting our warranty repairs done in Indiana soon. We’ve also brought it to the Freightliner custom chassis service center in SC. We’ve done the two oil changes on it ourselves. Hard to find good places these days that we trust.

  • @admranger

    One topic that has always interested me is routine service for the RV. Since it's your home and you have Axle, do you just get a room at a dog friendly hotel (and pay the ridiculous cleaning fee that you know doesn't go to any additional cleaning at all) or ?

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +1

      Good question! We’re actually heading to IN soon for our warranty work. It’s going to take 2 weeks for the manufacturer to fix everything. So we had to get a dog friendly AirBnB for 2 weeks and unfortunately have to pay out of pocket for it. Kris does most our RV maintenance himself but anytime we do need to take it in to be serviced we have to essentially move out and into a rental

    Question, why don’t you rent vehicles when you get into a town that you can rent a vehicle instead of Towing. We are downsizing from our home and buying a new motorhome and I’m debating if I’m going to tow vehicle or just call one of the local rentals for autos who will bring it to my campsite or where I’m staying and sometimes it’s only a, 19.95 a day plus yes in kilometres will not be cheaper to have done it this Way thank you for your response in advance

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад

      We’ve thought about that. But rentals are typically pretty expensive. We’ve been paying about $400-500 a week for the cheapest car available while our Jeep is in the shop. $2k a month on rentals really adds up. Since we live in it full time, we need full access to a car. Also not all RV parks are in places near rental car facilities

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +2

      All depends n your budget and must have features. Are you looking for new or used? For us, the 605hp engine was a must with such a big rig. We’d highly recommend getting an RV with the bigger size engine, it’s worth the price difference. We can drive with our tow through the Rockies with zero problems. One of the reasons we went with American Coach was because the 605hp engine came standard. It was an expensive upgrade in the Tiffin, Entegras and Newmars (all within our price point). If looking for new, definitely recommend going to an RV show like Hershey or Tampa. You’ll get the best deals there and get tour tons of different models there

    • @fuelyourwander

      We absolutely loved the PNW but unfortunately the RV parks that fit our size rig and have full hook ups are tough to find. In Portland we stayed at Sun Outdoirs Portland South. Nice location near the city but very noisy. In Astoria we stayed at a KOA that was just okay but right near the ocean. In Washington we stayed at Elwha Dam in Pprt Angeles. No frills RV park but very cozy and right near Olympic National Park.

    • @fuelyourwander
      @fuelyourwander  3 месяца назад +1

      That would be awesome! We’ll be first in line when one comes out 😂 We struggled with the decision between a motorhome and a fifth wheel. We decided on a motorhome because they’re made with better quality materials since they can hold more weight, and it’s a better travel experience on travel days - can access everything while driving and easier to set up than a fifth wheel once you park. We also didn’t want a big dualy truck as our daily driver vehicle. But fifth wheels have way more kitchen/living space and more modern floor plans. And if you break down, you don’t lose your home. It all depends on what’s most important to you.

    Sorry but this is not a very smart move financially. Dumping all this money into a depreciating asset like an RV is crazy. Right now interest rates for homes are at all time high and buying a house is harder than ever for most Americans. There are tons of youtubers who quite RV life after just 3 to 4 years. Also these RVs are money pits that depreciate like crazy. After you get tired of RV life and want to go back into a house, it will be much more difficult to get back in due to increasing house prices and higher interest rates throughout the nation. I bought old 3bed and 2bath single family house in San Jose California for 800K in 2019. Now it is worth $1.4M and interest rates are at 7%! Unless you guys are already very wealthy, it is all fun and games until reality hits.
