- team Kestävä tackles more structural engineering with reinforced masonry design examples, this time we cover a reinforced masonry beam design example, including step by step calculations per the masonry code - TMS 402 / 602 design guide for civil structural engineers. Getting one step closer to preparing for the structural engineering exam and becoming a better structural engineer.
This isn't structural engineering basics, but its a great place to learn CMU Masonry design!

My doctor in univercity give us a home work to search about reinforced masnary buliding
Where i can find refernce?
Great video. Taking my PE in 2 days and Masonry was one thing I knew almost nothing about. This was very helpful!
awesome!
I’m taking my PE test soon and have been watching tons of your videos, I love how you manage to make the time spent studying more enjoyable than it otherwise should be! Thank you!
I appreciate it man, I know it's alot but you guys studying along side me continues to also keep me motivated to learn more about structural engineering!
Great video!
Thanks!
Any good masonry textbook recommendations?
The reference manual is of course has everything you need, but is not the easiest thing to navigate.
A good textbook with step-by-step procedures and examples is always appreciated.
codemasters has some good literature
I also believe I fudged up the max reinforcing check!!!!! - more to come
Rich: was wondering if you could do some OOP masonry wall design examples?
oh YES i can!
LRFD vs ASD? many of the resources seem to be ASD, is this changing? what if you design the concrete and steel in LRFD with in the same structure as masonry in ASD. Is that allowed?
Masonry is typically done with working stress method, ASD. I prefer to do masonry beam design in LRFD.
why does this example mention "beam is laterally braced at both ends" is this info useful for something? and at google it appears "vertical reinforcement" for cmu beams, so did we have to check for that too?
lemme check back on this. great question Anees!
