I immediately stopped what I was doing to watch when I saw the notification for this. I was 7 years old when “Silent Running” was released & remember it WELL. Of course a kid couldn’t completely understand the lyrics, but the haunting melody & vocals conveyed it distinctly to my young mind. It just commanded attention...every time I heard it I stopped in my tracks to listen through. As an adult, I hadn’t heard it in quite a while. Then with the cataclysms of last year, I was listening to a news report & the melody and chorus popped into my mind. I immediately went searching to hear the entire song....just as mesmerizing as 35 years ago. However, now also a huge appreciation for the lyrics & how prophetic they are. The song hasn’t left my mind since & I doubt it will. You could hear me yell in agreement when you said it’s one of those songs that stays with you. Really cool hearing the back story on it, thanks!

I just finished listening to the "Satisfy My Soul" album. I turned on YT and stumbled across this interview. Yes ... In the master's voice you can hear his hard days from years ago and also... happiness.

When I first heard the song Silent Running the first thing I thought of is the Red Dawn movie. I saw that in the movie theater and it just seem to fit the movies storyline!

Compare this from '86 to today late 2022; absolutely PROPHETIC as is the film 'V for Vendetta!' (from 2005)--

This is another one of those instances where Carrack’s melodic genius and soulful phrasing turns “3 basic chords” into a memorable tune and huge hit. Of course, the “apocalyptic” subject matter helped resonate with the doomsday religious freaks. But for me, his gift of exquisite vocalization made it a to-this-day favorite.
My wife loves it too. And we have polar opposite musical tastes; I love soul, jazz and fusion while she’s a Pop head. Such is Carrack’s appeal.

I Wonder if Paul was considered for Genesis after Phil left? He may have done a decent job?

Given both acts were still around, i guess people would have just perceived it to be Tony Banks joining Mike and The Mechanics.

A rather poignant description of Paul’s early life and family roots. You have to wonder how much he taps into this personal history to derive the substantial emotion and soulfulness he puts into his singing.
