My son is 15 and he just posted this song on his Instagram. Makes me so sad to think that he and his generation might feel this way. But it’s totally understandable. All I can say is that my generation feel the same, underneath all the bravado. I love this video so much. I think that this is supposed to represent how kids have an opinion but because we are kids no one wants to listen to us, the world that we are supposed to rule over in the future is being decided for us, and that is getting on our last nerve. We don't want to come back to a world full of fear and rejection, things that we wanted to end. That is an opinion of mine, >.< Please don't bash me!
My son is 15 and he just posted this song on his Instagram. Makes me so sad to think that he and his generation might feel this way. But it’s totally understandable. All I can say is that my generation feel the same, underneath all the bravado. The only difference is that we got used to the feeling, internalised it and finally fell into line in exasperated resignation. We wanted your world to be happier and more secure than it is. And our lives haven’t been as good as you may think. Pushing back against those who decide the world is exhausting and eventually we realised that we needed to just give up and focus on ourselves.
Fact is, living in the Western World, we’re incredibly lucky, compared to 99% of mankind. We don’t live under constant threat of death. We don’t have to suffer to get food or shelter and we are free to express our opinions. We should feel very lucky and never forget it because all that COULD be snatched away without notice.
So. What’s the answer? Nobody knows what’s right for you. We think we know the mistakes we made and how we’d have lived our lives differently. And that’s what’s behind the advice we give. It may not be good advice. We just don’t know. But here’s what I do know: You should look after yourself. Surround yourself with ONLY those who nourish you. And DO things that, you are SURE are positive. Avoid ideologies because there isn’t one that has all the answers. But find out all you can about how the world works. Don’t let people TELL you. Find out for yourself. And the first step is to travel. Visit other countries. Perhaps those where you’ll feel uncomfortable. You’ll learn the most there.
For me, Jordan Peterson has been a revelation, although I’m aware that he’s seen as something of a meme. Would it do you any harm if you listened to him?
