    On teaching about slavery: the argument to these conservatives should always be Germany, imagine Germany just denying the Holocaust happened and not teaching about it to school children. Imagine the rest of the world observing that and recognizing how strange and repressive that would seem. Sometimes the analogy is right there it just comes from somewhere else. I think that is explored in a book called History and Obstinacy - Negt and Kluge.

    • @ineedtostopwatchingyoutube5211

      Slavery is a huge part of our high school curriculum. There is an official month dedicated to black history, and an unofficial but widely observed day. Slavery is discussed on American news networks and among academics fairly often. It’s really a poor analogy, and you’re making a mockery of your argument. I disagree with pretty much everything Sam says ( I’m only here because I’m bored ) but I think we do enough. The real interesting thing here is that you are white trying to understand the black experience, but are unable to look at the present moment. Liberals are incapable of accepting the black community as it currently is, which is a sore sight. Black republicans will be the first to tell you this. There’s no easy answer, but we could start by acknowledging blackon black violence. The falsehood of police brutality. The drugs, sex and infelicities of rap music. There is a black identity crisis going on, and you aren’t helping the cause by intellectualizing from your armchair. I grew up around mostly blacks, and I know they hate that sh1t. They are self aware, but they don’t stand a chance against this cultural behemoth + being born into poverty doesn’t help. I wish the answer was as simple as you think it is, so we could get straight to work, but it’s actually multi layered. Trump was mentioned in over 100 hip hop songs before he ran.. he had a girlfriend was half black.. look up his Platinum plan.. He got 1/5 black votes in 2020. A change is coming, and hopefully it will come soon enough to save America from the high horse Baizuo.

      I know, I know, but here in Europe, the slightest critic of Israel's policy is also taken as antisemitism. For instance, see what happened to Jeremy Corbyn in UK. So it's good to see citizens of the State that is the main support of Israel no matter who's in charge to state the "risky" obvious. So what's next ? Only strong economic and diplomatic sanctions against Israel will have an effect on its criminal policies. As we say in France, "touch the wallet". It was done against South Africa. By the way, did you know that during this period of isolation, the only country that discreetly carried on its relationships with South Africa by collaborating with its government on military and security matters was... Israel. Any plans in advance ?

    No one seems to remember that Kennedy made a massively exaggerated claim about the threat to New York City of a potential accident at Indian Point Nuclear Plant. It was entirely unnecessary because a contractor hired by the governor and I had independently identified legitimate issues that collectively cast doubt on the ability of government agencies to protect New Yorkers from radiation exposure. In fact, that was an early indicator that Kennedy is inclined to do what is expedient and gets him attention (even if he's ridiculed), casting aside the public interest in accuracy information.

    Minor correction for Matthew Film Guy. Todd Haynes wasn't sued by Mattel for Superstar, he was sued by Karen Carpenter's brother (and lost as he never got music rights)

      That is true, thank you - though Mattel did express concerns about it apparently Haynes had prepared for this eventuality by telling them he used 'off brand' Barbies, thus not their exact intellectual property. @@kmo9790 he was making good points about not finding the origin in the wild and speculation from scientists in the United States. His point on the Obama administration banning gain of function research after weighing the pros and cons was insightful as well as how practices in these facilities in China were unsafe. There’s plenty of evidence here to at least least accept the possibility and look further into it.

    • @kmo9790
      @kmo9790 Год назад

      @@Max-rp2ft In the context of a lab leak theory, which is what he is pushing, those are not good points though. Not finding the origin in the wild does not mean that the conclusion is a lab leak. Particularly when China wasn't exactly cooperating. China not cooperating is also not a reason to believe lab leak.
      Random scientists speculating isn't evidence. It is exactly the opposite. Actual genetic experts quickly pointed out that Cov19 had no genetic markers to indicate that it was anything other than a natural origin. The markers would be present 100% of the time. Any new strain would still have those markers. A virus genome is very simple for modern technology to map. These markers would have been found immediately.
      The Obama admins decisions on gain of function has nothing to do with knowing if the virus came from a lab. It is an unrelated anecdote that is intended to imply there was some sort of unsafe environment for the virus to spring out of. This is completely irrelevant since the genome of the virus itself will tell you if the virus was manmade. Like if you have a flat tire you don't have to come up with theories about pot holes you can just look at the tire and see that there is a nail in it. Same with the virus. An appropriately experienced viral geneticist can just look at the genome and tell you if it was man made or not.
      Your agnosticism is being used against you. The default position for things like this is skepticism, not agnosticism.

    • @kmo9790
      @kmo9790 Год назад

      @@Max-rp2ft No he wasn't making good points. The only points needed making is that geneticists can tell if a virus is man made just by sequencing the genome. All the other stuff is just garbage meant to sway people who don't understand science.

      I agree on the lab leak theory. Unfortunately, because the Chinese government completely stonewalled every attempt to investigate what happened in the Wuhan lab it’s almost impossible to prove that the virus leak came from the lab. If we had access to the lab’s records and were able to freely interview all of the scientists who worked in the lab then it could probably be proven one way or the other if the virus came from the lab. • @jcspoon573

      1) Unlike RFK Jr, Truth Teller cites sources for each claim, so you can check those (uncertain TMR did that, but RFK Jr most certainly did not).
      2) Why don't media outlets use that information? Some of them have. A simple search found NPR, CNN, Politico, Vanity Fair (!), and The Guardian all debunking RFK Jr, some using the same or similar sources as Truth Teller.

      There are two theories, one of which has consequential evidence (lab leak) and one which has only fragmented data (zoonotic). There is no proof of either theory, but yet one was immediately censored from discourse at the beginning of the pandemic. One does not need to be a "microchips in the vaccine" conspiracy theorist to find the suppression of a legitimate theory that follows Occam's Razer as suspicious.
      China deleted all the data from the Wuhan lab. We will never find a smoking gun proving the lab leak. We could find proof of the zoonotic thesis, if said evidence exists (and as Ryan Grim stated, China is trying to find the intermediate animal responsible for zoonotic transmission). It is not settled science yet and there are plenty of shady shenanigans that happened via the viral research community coalescing around a narrative from the drop.

    That was a very...gentle(?) exploration of Grim's lab leak reporting. His explanation involves so many leaps of logic and decontextualized "facts" that it's basically a hypothetical confabulation (that could be true?). More importantly, now what? I like and respect some of his reporting, but he hasn't produced anything substantive; it doesn't even qualify as circumstantial at this point.

    • @TheRubenMar
      @TheRubenMar Год назад

      There isn't anything substantive one way or the other, that was his point, people are talking about this as it has been 100 % confirm or disproven, it hasn't, that doesn't mean you believe the stupid shit Joe Rogan and company promotes, you can ridicule them for their extremes, but still accept not knowing, because, for now, nothing has been proven or disproven, however lab-leaks as a possibility and something to be vigilant for, was a left wing position before covid.
