My favorite was when I said, in the beginning, "I have 3 cheese" - KNOWING I had 3 cheese - but later on when re-asked what I had I said "3 apples". EVERYONE noticed I had changed what I said so they all thought I was bluffing - when, in reality, I wasn't - I simply wanted the Sheriff to open my bag and pay me money. Yeah - I had a GREAT time playing with Dan and company!
At 2:50, is the middle stack of Sheriff cards supposed to be overflowing the rack, or are there just too many cards for the plastic? Yeah, its one of my pet peeves when it comes to boardgaming. :(
***** The words "Any Negotiation" :) The Arcane WOnders rep used this during our demo. I wouldn't have thought about it right away if I hadn't seen him do this trick. from the rules - After the Sheriff hears your offer (and after any negotiation required to settle the issue), the Sheriff must either allow you to pass (accepting any bribe that may have been offered), and hand you your Merchant Bag, or inspect the bag (refusing any bribe that may have been offered).
Thanks for the reply. I had heard of this option elsewhere too but I could not find some justification for it. At first I thought that by definition the negotiation takes place only between the Merchant and the Sheriff.
Only reason why I didn't buy this is because I don't have the right group for it. If you have a close group of friends that know each other well, I'm sure this would do great. But I play with a local meetup that has new people alot and The Resistance, for example, fell flat with them. I'm glad Dan pointed that out. Fun looking game for the right group.
What I don't understand about this game is that if players only start with a total of 50 gold (1x20 5x5 1x1) why are there so many extra coins (even after 5 players have been given their starting amount) and especially the single 50 gold coins. As far as I can see, these coins worth 50 gold each will never get used. Am I missing something?
My only problem with the game is that it is more of a partyish game...yet only plays 5. If it played 8 I would jump on it in a heartbeat. Would it work and could a bag/playerboard expansion be possible?
***** At 5 with a talkative group, the game ends at the right time (an hour). With 7 or 8 it would be too long for the weight of the game in my opinion. It actually works good with even 3.

Well you play the game wrong. You cannot change your declaration..
Thus why people thought i was lying. Guess ya had to be there. Lol.
Never watched your vids before; great, comprehensive review. Great work and thank you.
Pretty thorough review. I appreciated your opinion and remarks near the end, thanks.

Normally this would not happen since every player starts with 6 cards, but I didn't deal those out. It sits normal if you are really playing the game.
OK, thanks. :)
Where in the rulebook does it say that other players may pay for the sheriff to open an other person's bag?

Looks amazing! This and King of New York are my top two gencon games.
Dan didn't mention what you get for sneaking contraband. I guess you also get gold value of that card.
I just described it to my family as a fancy "Stone Soup". My family enjoys that game, so maybe it's time for another variation. Like the artwork.

Thanks for the honest review, Dan!
COMPINSCATED?
CONFISCATED
I like coup. I don't see the big fuss about Sheriff of Nottingham since it is pure guessing.
Looks Awesome!
