Bob its always a good day when you upload :) I can't drive (I have autism and it's hard for many autistic people, I hope to change that someday!!) but I love learning and kind of living vicariously through you and the awesome people who share their homes with us!
I live in a small van (transit connect) in the UK and some big van dwellers think im crazy. All of the vehicles have something i'll add to my own setup, so thankyou for the video and to those who featured! For anyone who doesn't understand the minset: it's about living *from* the vehicle and exploring, not living *in* it.
In San diego homeless is biggest growing industry to the point the colleges now have classes on starting your own non profit to assist homeless. Of course the way that works is government gives you a couple million to work with, your the ceo at 200k, then you buy some socks underwear and bottles of water to hand put, then you throw a dinner at a fancy reception in Vegas or nyc olwith other non profits enjoy that vacation, then you give 700k to other non profits, who also give 790k k to your non profit, everyone passes the money around and 1 dollar of every 100 bucks goes to a homeless person
I liked the idea of the black sheet to cover the back. I will incorporate that if/when I go on the road. I just love watching your videos - they are so inspiring - and it is fun to dream. Thanks!
What I got from this is more ideas for being able to go mobile. I have mybdream van build out in my head but I'm also on a low budget. This way I can get going with what I have rather than let what I don't have hold me back. I've been a nomad at heart since I was little.
Thanks Bob😊 i thought you “wrapped” your ambulance in green?? All the cars are inventive. I like the stuffed pillow for multiple use, and the collapsable toilet. Healthwise, blood pools in the pelvis and not sure sitting to drive and then sitting to work is healthy. Get your blood pumping everyone! See you all soon!
I absolutely 130% adore the second gal (with the pink T-shirt). She is the one I identify with most! It's one of those things where if I see her and she's doing it, then I can possibly do it too!
All of your videos are so inspiring. When we first thought of traveling in a van, we started searching RUclips and your videos were some of the first ones we started watching. You find all of the folks to interview that have great small space living ideas! And now, we are part time travelers in our Ford Transit! Inspired by all of the folks we have watched here. Thank you! ❤️
Great Video, Great ideas in these scary scary times, Thank You from the bottom of our hearts, I am newly retired, and we are on our way out West all of these videos help so much
Oh my gosh Bob!💕 This is a GREAT IDEA! I love it , a LOT OF GREAT IDEAS ON ONE VIDEO! Yes please a Series sounds GREAT THANK YOU BOB! YOU ARE DEAR TO EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD’S HEART! Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From Anaheim California USA 🇺🇸 💕👍🌺💯😄🇺🇸
On balance, I think it is best to only have one seat for a solo camper in a car. Seats take up a lot of volume and weight for very little return, and it is better for fuel economy and safety if you keep a low centre of gravity and well within the safety limits for weight. Some station wagons have really good flat surfaces which are excellent for a bed base, but cars, not so much. So if most of your junk is under the bed, or in foot wells it is a lot safer because of less possibility of stuff flying around when you have to do an emergency stop. But obviously I am not dictating what people should do. If it suits you, it suits you. Obviously, you have to have the basic necessities of life: a comfortable bed, cooking, storage and somewhere to wash and go to the bathroom in the car, if only for emergencies, and occasionally, we all have them. For more "luxury" items, it is nice to have a "living room/office" area, and it makes sense, in such a small volume, to have it relatively uncluttered to give the impression of roominess. And at least dual purpose for almost everything. Obviously access to gyms mean showers, etc, which can often be available for daily routines. If given the choice, I would do aluminium framing rather than using wood. It is stronger for less weight, but obviously not easy to do on a very limited budget. But if it is going to be your permanent home, then it is probably worth the investment if you can make it happen. A portable fridge is a "must" luxury item. A cool drink or fresh produce can put more variety and taste into a diet. Long life milk, dry foods or cans can get pretty "old" quickly, and can make things seem a bit more like survival than thriving. At least for me. "Raw" foods are much cheaper than most processed foods, even with cooking taken into account. I am an omnivore, but there are good vegan burger "meats' out there, and add some cool fresh salad [lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc] is really quick to prepare, and can be a good healthy feed. Organisation is everything, IMHO. Getting frustrated by having to move things around, wasting time looking for a misplaced item can get old very quickly, and can distract from fully enjoying your time on the road or camping.
I love these videos, I took my first stay in a rented Prius recently, and the first night was so scary, but the second...I got it. First night sucked because I was all alone in the back section of a Walmart lot. The second night, I was in a 24 hour fitness place, with lots of traffic, and clearly several other vehicle dwellers; a Highlander with a sunshade, a couple white vans, and even an 80s rv! And the place was part of a big sprawling shopping complex, so it felt a lot more like I was able to blend in. I also had my Dollar Tree black shower curtain liner up on the parking lot side of the car, with the road side of the car open with just the limo tints. It felt like a normal room, instead of a little glass box. I slept for 12 hours that second night lol. I woke up feeling amazing - the AC was set just right, I was very comfortable on the (admittedly not at all ideal) air mattress and sleeping bag, and...I don't know, it just felt right. And it felt so much better being in a safe place with other people. Clearly it was a safe spot because I'm pretty sure I was so exhausted from getting barely 3 hours the night before, that I left my headlights on! Even with idling the whole night, I averaged 40mpg that trip, only 20 worse than using it only as a car. I'm now looking for my own Prius so I can go cross country, with my dog. I remember when my guy was alive and strong, years ago, he would have probably beheaded anyone who broke my window, if I let him. I now see how people handle this lifestyle. The first night was frightening but once the cherry is popped, it stays that way I guess. It also helped that it was a very new Prius, 2020, in a nice color with limo tints. It looked VERY much like a normal car while it was parked, which made me feel a lot safer too. I'm rambling but thanks for making these videos and giving me the courage and the inspiration to go out and try it. I'm going to see if I can get my sedan to a place where it's livable for days at a time for trips, until I can get a newer Prius.
All of these folks have risen to the challenge of "how am I going to do this?" with creativity & ingenuity. The platform w/storage underneath (the mini van?) is sorta' classic, and the design I adopted for my SUV. I sleep inside mine only if it's a 1 nighter - it's a pain to do so. I did not factor in how much of a pain in the rear rearranging everything was going to be. I need to downsize some things and reorg.
So many great gadgets and ideas. I've scaled down from a campervan to a car and then a tent. Looking to buy a new car to live in soon. A small SUV is plenty big enough for me and will take me where big rigs and slow vans just can't go. I just want to be out in nature but also be able to get back out again 😆 I don't really want to drag a whole house everywhere I go.
My favorite is number 4 with the plywood floor. I saw this video when it first came out and it's been on my mind ever since. I hope I will be able to buy a van, but if I have to get a car instead I will probably make a platform on one side and leave the other side open.
Thank you! Thank you I! 👍👍💐💐👍👍 Such a cool VERY Informative video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💯💯 It makes us almost there nomads very hopeful and excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!✨🎉✨
For a potty use a Folgers or yuban coffee container, they are easy to hold, have a lid. For a number 2 put a doggy poop bag in container and then just throw away.
Floor storage with removing the back seat. Have an Envoy and have designed how I can change it. But at this time I've found a Very great retirement community for under $200. a month plus utilities but water. But who knows what may be next. 😉
Thank you Bob. I think the Tesla's are the best. Heat and AC come with the car nothing else needed. If you could find a way to charge with some plug in solar panels they would be no better. Awesome 👍🦇 🇨🇦
Excellent videos, thank you so much. I use the same toilet, but use an empty folgers container for #1. I line the container with a contractors bag, just in case :).
There's so many great ideas in this compilation. I loved the second lady how she had access to everything from the drivers seat. That was a smart idea. I also loved the lady with the Kia. She did a great job with her black out panels.
One thing I haven't seen that I think is a good idea is those awnings that can become an 8'x8' room for extra space when people are camping out for 14 days. When mom passes and I can travel for the winter I think the extra room would be great to keep my DIY electric recumbent trike, the porta potty, the 12volt compressor fridge so my little van would have less stuff in it. I am disabled with a spinal cord injury so setting something up like this for a weekend might be a bit much... but for 14 days I think it would be worth it.
DIY electric recumbent you say? Do you have video or anything of that? I'd really be interested. My oldest brother made an attempt at building one (w/ shaft drive), but "lost interest".
Great video and this helped me see the differences in each vehicle and as always you are amazing Mr. Bob. These videos are teaching me how things really are. I am in great need of this life as things are ending in one area, but you've made me unafraid to start again thank you for all you do. ❤ I couldn't do this without the help of Cheap RV Living videos.
I'm 71 and have been living in my Altima on and off for five years. Sometimes I get a home base because I get my diabetes out of wack and I have to get some teeth removed. But I sleep like a baby at the beach or Walmart. But being on the road I feel less stress.
I love seeing people succeed through living in their car. Seeing that inspiring before and after, the strategic faint or retreat to a car life or van life in order to regroup and achieve or surpass their goals. Mom and I are minivanning today... Lot of the AirBnb treadmill at one of our several hundred summer homes now, taking in the gorgeous scenery. Meaning she is getting all the attention and supervision she needs right now while I can gradually build my entertainment business clientele without financial stress. Having a different set of snow-capped mountains in the background of every shot can't do anything but help my marketing and positioning as a touring stage hypnotist, which helps me explain to my prospects why the urgency and scarcity in my offer is real. Because I'm following the weather by necessity, I'll only be available in a certain area for a short amount of time. Since people know what a snowbird is, what a tour is, because I can always have a different and interesting background in all of my videos, I've got an amazing element of fascination for my ongoing marketing campaigns.
These are great ideas..I have a 76 Westy full camper but I only camp in it...I also have a newer Eurovan we a queen sized bed for camping in the Caribbean.. for winter..one of my problem s is modern VW vans require lots of expensive maintenance to keep going..When u do this remember they do break and then ur home is broke and iMobile.and there your are..Bill
I would like to have seen more about the last cooking system. I did not know how it was powered. also liked the cooking system in the Prius. hope you have it listed. I think its a perfect way to cook in the car perfect way to save space!!! personally I will find a place for a BBQ system as Israel has 9 months of summer.
Thanks Bob, I'm about to receive a Ford expidecian Not sure about year yet, contract work includes truck so remove 3rd bench seat, I have 2 Deep cycle batteries a 500 solar converter one 100 watt panel, also 2 five gallon propane tanks, your cargo trailer hitch system really fits in my plans
I added the idea of a plywood floor into my verry small Ford Ka. not slept in it yet, but i think its an very interseting idea and worth trying asap ^^
I like the Prius and Tesla because they can be heated and cooled during sleeping. I have to go to the bathroom a couple of times during the night. No doubt an instructional video could be done on various strategies. That for the ideas.
I always love your videos! I like the more detailed videos better though. I have a dozen more questions that weren't answered for each of those vehicles. 😆 Any chance you could put a reference to a single video for each of those vehicles in the drop box? So so so many questions!
Where can i find 6 window custom fit, sheer black sun shades for a Toyota Prius Prime? The U.K. Sun Shades company mentioned in the video only goes up to 2015. Prius Prime not mentioned on their website 😮😢😮
Removing back seats in the minivan and adding plywood to level the sleeping area is great

Bob is doing more for the homeless population in this country than any politician with their butt in a seat.
Very well said! 👍🏼🧡
You are absolutely correct!👍🏼🙌👏☝️
They are not homeless. They are Houseless.
@@ronedwards2584 OK... What ever.

The portable hot plate and the portable folding port a potty are great ideas that take up very little space. Great video Bob, Cody, and The Gang.
The best thing I saw was everyone's courage to do what they need to do or want to do that's awesome guys
EXACTLY!! Couldn't have said it better! Smiles to Michael, Bob and team.
Again, I appreciate SO MUCH the time you've spent assembling these five or of the thousands of videos that you've done!
I liked the idea of the black sheet to cover the back. I will incorporate that if/when I go on the road. I just love watching your videos - they are so inspiring - and it is fun to dream. Thanks!
@Kim Kevan I like the way you think buddy 😎
Me too, the black sheet is good idea👍🏼🙌

Bob Wells for president! : )
Congress would tie his hands. He's doing more good this way.
Cover everything with a black sheet - what a great idea. Also storing things in pillow cases
I absolutely 130% adore the second gal (with the pink T-shirt). She is the one I identify with most! It's one of those things where if I see her and she's doing it, then I can possibly do it too!

I love the idea of showing us what's possible with all different sizes of vehicles! Thanks so much for putting this together.
Wow a folding bike in a Prius, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing all these videos Bob
Taking the seats out makes a huge difference

Lots to like but the Prius stole the show with the mpg! I bet they are in great demand now.
I am thinking of downsizing someday to a small car and it gives me ideas to see how others do it
Thanks Bob for all the people you have helped and are still helping

I really like the hot plate idea! Seems so much easier and safer than propane or butane. Also love the idea of no refrigeration.
Some great ideas from this video. It's incredible how well you can live in such a small space.
All so informative! Thank you for sharing Bob & team! 🫶

There's so many great ideas in this compilation. I loved the second lady how she had access to everything from the drivers seat. That was a smart idea. I also loved the lady with the Kia. She did a great job with her black out panels.
Thank you. Are you going to do one on 4 Dr pickups?
Suv that are camping ready would be helpful!
Wow learned so much from this. Thanks
BTW, that "side room" was in my original plans for my SUV, but I opted for a tent and something DIY for an awning - yet to be built. 😕
Really interesting thanks for sharing 👍😊

I thought the carpeted flooring that lifted up in sections and was otherwise flat was very smart use of space above and below!
Keep inspiring us Bob. I’ll be out there soon. Thank you SO much!
Basically, all are good ideas
I really liked the KIA set up.
I love the black out window shades. I will be doing that to my Dodge caravan next weekend. Freaking awesome cool stuff Bob!
Love the Prius conversion. I most likely will do a NO build, but lots of great ideas for storage, organizing, and cooking.
I'm a no-build enthusiast myself. 👍
I would love to see a list of which small cars have a backseat that folds flat. I believe 2010 Rav 4, one with tire hanging of the back might.
It's a nest! Blessings Abound!

I drove a taxi and I came up with ways to go to the bathroom. It’s doable.

Where can i find 6 window custom fit, sheer black sun shades for a Toyota Prius Prime?
The U.K. Sun Shades company mentioned in the video only goes up to 2015. Prius Prime not mentioned on their website 😮😢😮
