  • This is early footage of Mario 64 seen on ABC (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation) in an interview with the late Hiroshi Yamauchi, former president of Nintendo and predecessor to Satoru Iwata.
The footage seen here is what Spring96 is aiming to recreate.
Note the difference in the instruments for the Wing Cap theme, the presence of the "Ya-hoo!" sound effect, the Goomba texture, the method of defeating Boos, and layout of Big Boo's Haunt.

Right person: How is the workmanship?
Yamauchi: Well, I can't discuss the workmanship yet.
The finished product will be released, right?
I am sure that many users will play the game then.
It is up to the users to decide at that time.
    That's what I'm interested in.
I can't wait to see how users react.
Right person: Are you looking forward to the release date?
Yamauchi: No, it's not so much that I'm looking forward to it, it's more that if the users don't support it, Nintendo will be ruined.
A Mario game is the software that will determine the future of Nintendo.
This is my proper English, but I translated it.

Yamauchi never played a game on one of his consoles but he was a damn good business man.

Would love to know what Yamauchi-san is actually saying. The auto-translate is pretty wild lol

He's like that old fashioned, a bit paternalistic president

Imagine someone who only played the Shoshinkai build not following any updates on Super Mario 64 until E3, scratching their heads wondering wtf happened to the simplistic look of the castle, cartoonish HUD, and dark model of Mario

This guy probably demanded pinkies for bad games. That’s why every Nintendo 1st party game on the NES, SNES, and N64 was awesome.

Not too clearly a post-e3 build, but surely. The Ya-Hoo's existance, and the Final Boo texture being used.

This is the build they showed off at E3. It's obviously a very close-to-final build of the game, if not THE final build: ruclips.net/video/BoQ_9thx480/видео.html

I can see that the Goomba has the unused head and body models and a different face. Probably this Goomba design was used in an earlier build like Shoshinkai '95?
