Good honest experience bro! You have experience it all playing stateside. NCAA is a way different level than SEA games or Jones cup. Your talking points like competiton and what NCAA college you play really means a lot. Its reality and filipinos thought Philippine NCAA-UAAP is the same. Its not the same and to get that level of competition is a huge points and advantage. The tougher the competition the more a player become good looking to a prospective NBA Team. Look at recent filipinos try out in the NBA from Japeth Aguilar to Bobby Parks, one thing why NBA teams hesitate to even take a look at them is simply their resume. If like japeth, bobby ray or kobe paras' resume says like what Mr. Menk is saying division 1 or mid-level collegiate plus 15ppg, 10rpg 5apg or something like that probably he will. Kobe is already 20 years old. The other way he can break the NBA is if the philippines again manage to make it to maybe olympics or world basketball and make it maybe second round and with kobe on the lineup and get good production. Probably but its still a long shot. There is still time and if he will have proper guidance he will be good.

Very Well Said Eric, I mean it's really going to be a tough decision if Kobe would consider himself playing in the NBA i don't even know if he'll get drafted , I've been following his games as well and the kid has a lot of things to improve from his shooting, defense and even the decision making inside the court i haven't seen his full potential yet i mean people has not seen what or who Kobe Paras is except of course we all know that he is a good dunker we all want the best for him i hope that he made the right decision.

Finally someone with common sense and not buying into the hype of Kobe Paras. As much as I want to see him in the NBA, I just don’t think he’ll be drafted. He’s got a loooong way to go. Personally I think he should have stayed at Creighton for a couple of years, to develop especially his shooting. Creighton is known to produce some very good shooters.

Playing for Gilas in Fil Oil and most probably in the Jones cup and the Asian Games in the coming months is a very good chance for him to prove himself if he's NBA quality player, his Fil Oil stint is just okay, has potential but im hoping na mas maging aggressive sya on offense. Kobe must understand here in the Philippines he will be challenged hard, get foul hard.. i think its more of a mental thing for Kobe, he can play for Alab, well coached team, international exposure.Still believe NBA scouts still has their radar on Kobe, just work hard man, ignore the haters and bashers, prove to us that your really good as advertised..

  • @dannyhuskerjay

he should have trusted coach mac at creighton and redshirted his freshman year(creighton beat ucla this year) so CU is ahead of the first school he went to. If he redshirted he would have gotten some playing time this year with creighton and would have a chance for fighting for the starting position now that marcus foster graduated and Kyrie thomas maybe heading to the nba. The kid needs better advice, it seems like everyone around him is telling him how great he is when he really needs to improve on a lot. It's to bad cuz us fans for creighton said he could end up a really good player he just needs to be patient and he wasn't.

All the fame from the Philippines got to his head. If anything, he could have tried going to a smaller school in CA- UCSD, UCRiverside, or other schools and put up big stats his first year. Former top pick Steve Francis was a high school drop out and then went to junior college before he transferred to Maryland. He wanted to get the quickest way to the NBA, but sadly it didn't work out.

dannyhuskerjay he shouldve sucked it up and stuck with it. I also believed he couldve cracked the starting 5 if he just stayed with the program. His larger than life popularity went to his head and now his career is going nowhere. Bad decision making on him and his agent's part.

  • @robrig55
    @robrig55 6 лет назад

Has any team indicated that they will draft him?

  • @redorange
    @redorange 6 лет назад +13

Undrafted free agent going to G league if he is lucky and gets invited to summer league. Barely played in his only year of D1 with a poor shooting percentage(34%fg, 20% 3pt, 27% ft) and sat out the next year because he changed school on his sophomore year. He is great against lower level competition but he could’t even hang with the Big East level when he was at Creighton. Should have stayed at the same school to get more minutes or did he transfer because he knew he could not break the starting lineup. Needs to develop a jump shot because playing in the NBA is not like playing Myanmar. Whoever is advising this kid needs to look at the film when he plays same level or above competition because they are giving him bad advice. Highlights are great but everyone in the NBA had highlights in high school.

Chances are 60% PBA, 20% ABL, 10% CBA, 5% Europe, 5% Gleague....Yep havent heard him playing in his latest college as a soph. not even in the top 100 draft boards when NBA teams can only pick 60 players. but who knows, he has a dream, maybe when he attends NBA draft combines and impresses scouts, It could change. He needs to be in those combines.

i do hope this from hereon, kobe will be focusing on his dribbling / shooting...to me this is his weakest link..he is 6'6 and maybe he can still grow an inch or two...but if in case he wants to improve his stock, developing those 2 skills bigtime can help a lot since playing pg or sg will only be the option with his curren height...
just like eric menk, right now, being drafted in the nba is a longshot given he has not played in the ncaa league for 2 years already...wherever he goes i do wish him the best and hopefully he can still make it in the nba in the future...

At least Japeth had national team experience even before Gilas 1.0 that were regularly playing grown men from Middle East and East Asian clubs. If Kobe can get on an ABL club like Singapore or HK Eastern... he'll definitely learn the pro game quicker. But just for fun, I wanna see him in Lavar Ball's league.

I'm surprised he didn't make corrections on his jump shot. He should have hired someone like Chip Engleland, a shooting coach. One of his problems coming from the Philippines is that at age 15 he was still playing 5 (center) because he was big for a Filipino when he should be playing 3 at least if he was in the US. He then goes to the US and did pretty good in high school playing 2,3, or 4. But should have started correcting some of his bad habits to take it to the next level i.e. lateral defense and shooting. He is good in slashing. But I saw little improvements and I see him doing the same thing is SEA and Jones afraid to take the long jumper and a sub par man to man defensive player. Actually I never saw him make a long jumper in those two tournaments. Now he wants to go pro and he does not have a consistent jump shot and will have to defend those pick and rolls. He has a consistent jump but not a shot.
I disagree with Eric that at his age it is hopeless to make it in the NBA but that is only true if Kobe had a chance to really develop as a guard or small forward from the get go (before high school). If you want to be drafted at 19 or 20 yeah it is too late. Because he had to switch from playing a big man all his life and switch to 2 or 3 when he got to Los Angeles, it does not give enough time to develop certain skills like ball handling and outside shooting. Even playing defense in the wing. Eric is right he shoots with little backward rotation that's why you never see him take that midrange jumper. I think he knuckleballs it and pushes it out. Hey I still see him as a big man playing in the U16 Gilas. Did he play guard or small forward? NO. That is the problem.
If he can develop and make corrections while in college and graduates at 23 it is still good and may make the NBA with his corrected skills.
I think he should stick is out in CSUN if he has a decent chance of playing and start making corrections of his dibbling, defense, and jump shot. A third tier Division 1 school is actually perfect. Big West Conference is no slouch and may actually allow him to correct his deficiencies. Then after 3 years let the chips fall where it takes you, NBA or at least be very good in the PBA. At least he'll finish school and get an degree also. Maybe he thinks he'll get benched again now that Reggie Theus is gone, then going home is his option. In his current form he'll be a decent PBA player and national player. He'll have a tough time living up to his dad's legacy. Anything is possible. My 2 cents.

Not against Kobe, but seriously,He'snot yet ready! There are so many facets of his game that needs to be improved!
First, his Dribbling Skills. He need to improved his basics from Dribbling using his Left Hand to Right Hand...He need to learned to play the Point Forward Position, that suits his Height and Athleticism..
    Another are his Outside Shooting!
He should have the Three Point Range, for Him to be more effective and exploit his Advantage! Also A Consistent Mid Range Jumper!

Talent wise he's just an average player pero Kung sa PBA for sure sisikat sya but sa NBA? Those are the cream of the crop sa buong mundo he's not even that good sa college, ambisyoso Lang Ang batang ito. Hindi to isang pagiging talangka pero Yan din Ang observation ko sa kanya.

Kaya nakakahiya maging pinoy hoops fan minsan.
    Nakakahiya.

As i watch kobe paras play basketball. All i can say is that Kobe paras has poor defense, lack of dribbling and lack of shooting skill. True he is athletic, he can jump high. I am not against kobe but this is what i have seen lacking in him. If he improve and develop those lacking skill well definitely he will make it to nba. To early to go pro not yet ripe and even ready

    • @jaytee3472

Maraming mas magagaling pa sa kanya na player. Fulll package pati kompletos rekados. Bat kukunin ng nba coach ang kulang kulang na player. Pwede siguro siyang makuha pero bench warmer.

    • @alfredhitchcock45

Dribbling, hand check defense and shooting. Kulang siya sa dribbling skills. Magaling siya sa blocks but not steals.

Ram Gonzales havent you been listening to Eric's "checklist"? Thats as clear as he could lay it out there. No NBA coach would draft him for his hops and dunks only, and coming from red shirt status. Whats hard to understand there?

I'm still wondering if Lavar had anything to with Kobe's scholarship being pulled out 🤔
I'm also wondering if he was approached by someone in the NBA 🤔
Seems to me the decision was very sudden.
