    The music talks by itself. When you hear, be you a Russian, an American, a Brazilian, whatever, the message is clear. A very inspiring Prokifiev. Music has no frontiers.

    Prokofiev wasn't forced to do anything. When he moved back to Soviet Russia in 1936, he tried to please Stalin, and he had no problems writing within the confines of Socialist Realism. This piece is about Russians uniting and standing up against the Nazis, since they were on the rise at this time

      Technally, it's about a 19th century battle between Russia and Germany/Sweden. But Prokofiev here uses WWII as a reflection of it...

    Jeden z najgenialniejszych utworów muzycznych wszechczasów !!! Obok Passacaglii c moll Bacha i preludium chorałowego Ich ruf zu dir , Herr Jesu Christ tegoż samego kompozytora . Gdyby naszą planetę ogarnęła pożoga , wart by było , by potomni odkopali te dzieła za choćby milion lat . WARTO !

      Nah this is a literal war song telling Russians to "rise for a fatal fight" it's not very good to have a war song as an anthem. If I had to replace the current anthem, I would replace it with "slavsia".

    A powerful piece no doubt but I would hardly call this one of Prokofiev's best merely for the fact that this is not really Prokofiev's artistic style. This was a piece he wrote out of fear for his life, for the governing forces of the USSR had a tight grip on a lot of the arts. Instead of Prokofiev moving forward with formalism, he was forced to write pieces that subscribed to Socialist Realism. This was not Prokofiev's artistic vision.

    Instead of his vision being seen through, he was forced to write propaganda pieces like this to try and make Russia seem united, powerful and non-oppressed. You are right though, it is a very powerful and compelling piece.
