I also have this affliction with my collection currently totaling about 120 saws give or take. My partner still doesn't understand why 1 saw isn't enough ! She'll learn eventually.. lol. I Bought 2 of these late 2020, one with the .404 and the other with the 3/8 set up. One was picked up as a non runner but following a carb clean and replaced clutch springs they are really excellent saws both have the quick stop for added safety. I’ve also been interested in confirming manufacturing year so thanks for the heads up on engine size etc.

@@stridebaad1219 good morning from Northants! Both saws have rollers, 3/8 pitch on a 18” Stihl bar and .404 on a 21” Oregon bar. Given the differing sizes they are still similar although the .404 is a more rapid cut. I’ve only just replaced the stock .404 sprocket on the 18” with the correct 3/8 using a rim to better fit the chain, I’ve not yet cut with this sprocket update but I hope too at some point over the weekend, drier weather allowing.
@@kevincallis6444 Hi Kevin. I have 7 of the 08's and my favourite setup is a .404 Full Chisel running on a 17-20" solid nose bar. Beautiful saws and such great value for money. I might try and do a head to head later today against a Partner 55 & Oleo Mac 251 or similar. Kind regards Rob 😀
Just picked up an 08S in pretty good shape. Waiting for some carb gaskets to come in to get it going. I believe mine has a 47mm piston. On mine the S is written below the 08 part on the bar oil side. I'm a newbie to working on chainsaws. I love to tinker on engines. I don't know the correct terminology but the tip of my bar has a wheel with a bearing. I'm in the USA. Washington state.

If it does and haß a 47mm piston, it is almost certainly made in the Stihl Brazilian factory. I'd love to see a video of her. Let me know how you get on. The version with the 47mm piston is a noticable power increase, but strangely I have never come across the SE model with the 49mm piston.. I'd love to try one. Have you cut with your saw yet? HELP PLEASE! Where on earth is the equivalent LA screw on the carb? Can’t get the saw to idle without chain still going. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi Michael, Sometimes the pin that goes through the trigger sticks, remove the top cover, Put a piece of tube/small deep socket over the pin to support the handle and put this on the bench and tap the pin out, I put a slightly larger drill through the pin hole in the trigger, grease the pin and tap it back, There's a return spring on the carb and on the trigger check those too..Regards, Bob.
@@misterrigsby8491 Nice one Bob. I did that and reemed out the pin holes which were really tight. Back together and roared into life! My neighbours won't like me doing that on a Sunday morning and my wife gave me earache for working on a chainsaw on the kitchen table but hey ho!. Thanks for your help.

Good morning Michael.. Sorry I missed your message earlier. The trigger has its own separate spring as well as the throttle lock. They are devils for getting stiff with the ingress of dirt over time. A good spray penetrating oil and clean will often free it up, or the trigger locating pins might need removing and cleaning. Kind regards Rob 😀

I pulled the cylinder off today and measured the piston. It's 44mm with a 0.25 stamp on the top. Looking to put a 47mm or a 49mm kit on it.
