Always love your videos! You're the only person on RUclips to really "get" the pop punk sound when creating your own stuff. Everyone else just makes pop music with guitars lol. Keep up the good work!
Haha thank you man, I really appreciate it! I think it's always helps to show off my own work when I'm trying to "teach". At least that way you know my advice isn't 100% snake oil 🤣
I'd like to thank this channel for singlehandedly breaking down my entire music taste in the 8th grade, and I say that as a complement
I just discovered your channel, im watching all your videos, thanks for your content from Spain!🎸✌️
That's great, and welcome to the channel!
That thumbnail is 100% going to trigger a certain subsection of individuals and I love it lol. Always love seeing some Trio pop up on here. 👍
Can't say it wasn't intentional... 😂
I really don't mean to kick off a discussion or play the punk gatekeeper (because I listened to more pop punk than "real" punk rock, too) but this shows how far off modern pop punk is from its punk roots, which were originally a countermovement to bloated 1970s rock music, now featuring multi-tracked guitars and all other kinds of production layering trickery, too. Not saying that it is bad because production made those records a lot more enjoyable and they were intended to be fun and entertaining, so nothing wrong with it, I just find it funny.
I think that's just part of most genres evolutions tbh. You can even take specific bands from those eras and see how they progressed musically - like how Minor Threat went from a very raw hardcore punk band, which eventually led to Fugazi's, who helped pioneer a more complex, art punk style.
I love the basic, raw punk sound as much as anyone, but if that was all punk ever was, I'd find it pretty boring tbh. That's part of why punk is great though, there's so much variety that for every sub-genre you're not into, there's probably 10 more you will enjoy.
@@SugarpillProd Yeah, and even today's "straight" punk recordings are using these tricks, even though they're probably not going for catchiness but for impact.
I think that early style still exists in some bands - The Chats would be a pretty good example of this - but obviously as technology progresses, most people want to sound "good", and I suppose this style of production is mostly associated with that idea.
Son of Dork... Almost forgot James Bourne had a second band
Yep, all 3 of them had side projects with varying amounts of success.
You are by far my favourite youtuber/producer/musician. I record a lot and I really improved so much thanks to you! Thank you sir, I owe you !
That's awesome dude! Stick with it and you'll be better than me in no time, haha!
@@SugarpillProd I wish I could! f you have 2 minutes that would be awesome for you to check my last one called "December" on my channel :) Keep providing for all of us, you're awesome :)
Yeah it's a cool song man, nice one!
Any video with bowling for soup in is a great video
remember me when you become famous
I'll send you some flowers when I do 🌹🤣
1:25 had a similar effect on me as the G note
👍
Друг, ты бесподобен! Очень круто раскладываешь.
Thank you! 🤘
cool👍👍👍👍
Thanks for checking it out!
this came at the perfect time, I'm trying to write a riff for a song
Awesome, hope it turns out great!
Which reaper theme do you use?
Nice videos btw!
Thanks! I think this was just the default theme (though I could be wrong) and I've recently switched to using the "Smooth 6" theme, which you'll probably see in future videos. I've just finished doing a fresh install of windows, so if this was in fact something other than the default theme, I can't recall what it was called.
Though I highly recommend "Smooth 6" if you're looking for a new one!
@@SugarpillProd thank you! I check this one out 🙂
are octaves why blink’s anthem sounds so good?
Anthem is actually using inverted chords as far as I can tell. That's how you get those cool sounds that aren't quite straightforward power chords.
What would you recommend for the amp tone for the initial recording?
It really depends on the genre you're working in. Anything punk related, I wouldn't go crazy with the gain, unless you're going for like a Pennywise sound or something.
Typically the cleaner you can keep things, the better it will sound once you start layering everything together.
Something like a JCM sound would be a good starting point though. Hope that helps!
One day I’m gonna write my own pop punk song and it’s all gonna be thanks to you
That's awesome, hope you do!
you're gonna get me as close to liking pop punk as i'll ever get
Happy to hear that 😂
Do you use the same take for right and left? Record two tracks at the same time and just pan them? Love your vids!
Thanks! You'll need to record the same part two separate times, then hard pan them. If you just copy and paste the same part, all you're doing is doubling the volume - you're not actually getting the stereo effect of a true double. You'll also run into some phase issues by doing, so always record things properly to avoid this. Hope that helps!
Thanks dude!!❤
you're the only person on yt i've seen making these in-depth videos about punk production. keep it up!!
Will do! I have noticed there's quite a lack of content on the topic. You're all good if you're a djentleman, but there's very little out there for the tube-sock loving, pizza bois 😂
i live by three principles: never embellish anything too much on production, never do on a studio anything you can't replicate live on your own and never break your guitar in a concert if it's your only one
Eh, I'm not a big advocate of the 2nd point. I get the logic behind it, but I think that thought process can be quite limiting in the studio - especially if you're just a duo or 3-piece.
Even just double tracking guitars technically wouldn't be "replicable" live for any band made up of three people.
@@SugarpillProd It also to me ignores that a lot of those techniques exist to make up for the fact that a live performance hits differently than a recording. Like a distorted guitar or bass drum have a presence that a recording can't replicate especially when coming out of headphones or a car speaker.
@@nathandorsey9145 Agreed 👍
