    With block themes, you can customize your category pages with the block editor. So now it's even easier to make that structure.

    Jack - this was amazing. Thank you! If I could recommend a follow up video - Perhaps a more advanced look at the different internal linking styles for silos. This is a bit more technically complex but, plays a huge role in link juice distribution.
    PS - the video editing and production of this was amazing! Great job!

    How about empower product category in woocommerce with blog posts and product pages? Let s be straight: we can't rank high with product pages in Google even we give them generic names (as "gift for 30 year woman") and we need to include them in a silo structure. Better said: how we can make silo structure for ecommerce sites with products categories, products pages and blog posts. Thanks for all your content, Jack!

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      You can place pillar content in both the main category and subcategories. The goal of pillar content is to link important articles together and improve the overall SEO of your website. By placing pillar content in both the main category and subcategories, you can create a strong internal linking structure that connects relevant articles across different levels of categorization. This can help search engines understand the hierarchy and importance of your content.

    Hello Jack, the video is more than wonderful: But I have become confused and I no longer know which one to identify from the Rankmath tool as pillar content.
    Example
    If I have a nutrition website and it has many categories such as nutritional supplements, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and 30 subcategories. As you know, each subcategory contains several Topics, each Topic contains a SubTopic, and each SubTopic contains a more in-depth sub-subtopic, so who is it?
    Which I define in RankMathe as pillar content
    - Category: Nutrition
    - - Subcategory: Vitamins
    - - - Topic: Vitamin B
    - - - - SubTopic: Vitamin B for hair
    - - - - - sub subtopic Benefits of Vitamin B for hair

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  6 месяцев назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      In Rank Math, you'd typically define the Topic: Vitamin B as the pillar content. And while you cover the subtopic and sub subtopic Rank Math will automatically suggest you to link the pillar page - Vitamin B.
      Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi Jack! Thank you for sharing such valuable insights. I'd like to address your statement at 16:16 regarding silo structure, where you mentioned:
    "The key to creating a silo structure is only to select one main category, never select more than one main category, and never select a subcategory in another category."
    I understand the importance of maintaining a cohesive silo structure for SEO. However, I'm curious about the concept of 'authority' within site strategy. Is this rule absolute in the context of an authority site?
    I have some articles that relate to multiple subcategories (around 2 subcategories only). For instance, under the "Productivity" category, there's a subcategory "Time Management" containing an article on "Effective Learning Methods." On the other hand, there's the "Academic Skills" category with a subcategory "Learning Methods."
    Would it be advisable to connect certain articles with both of these subcategories to enhance topical authority? Or is there a better way to manage this structure while maintaining SEO effectiveness?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  2 месяца назад

      Hello, thanks for your comment.
      The idea of not linking to other silos is more relevant especially to sites that has content on vast categories like this example (rankmath.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Silo-Website-Structure.png)
      In this case, your topics seem closely relevant and would help visitors find the relevant content.

      I appreciate your clarification regarding the silo structure and its application, especially in the context of sites with broad categories. Your explanation has helped me understand the nuances better.

    Hey Jack :); do I have to Check the main Pillar Page with the "This Post ist Pillar Content" or the Pages that are going more in depth for it? So in youre example is it Barbecue and Grill or do I have to check Barbecue Recipes?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      To effectively use Rank Math's Pillar Content feature, you should mark the main Pillar Page as "Pillar Content" In your example, if "Barbecue and Grill" is the main overarching topic that links all related content together, then you should mark "Barbecue and Grill" as the Pillar Content.
      By marking the main Pillar Page as "Pillar Content" Rank Math will help you build internal links to this page from other related posts or pages that go more in-depth on specific aspects of the main topic. This strategy helps to improve your website's SEO and overall content organization.
      If you encounter any issues with Rank Math, you can always raise your question here rankmath.com/support/ and our support team would be happy to assist you.

    Hello Jack and thank you for this very interesting video.
    However, I wanted to know if there is anything wrong with:
    That a category has several subcategories and another category which is sufficient in itself without any subcategory?
    Should we create a category and publish a certain number of related articles before creating another category?
    Have the experts determined the minimum number of articles published to justify the creation of a category or subcategory?
    Thanks again !

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  11 месяцев назад

      Hello, and thanks for your comment,
      There is nothing wrong with having a category with several subcategories and another category without any subcategories. In fact, this can be a good way to organize your website's content and make it easier for users to find what they are looking for.
      As for whether or not you should create a category and publish a certain number of related articles before creating another category, there is no hard and fast rule. Some experts recommend waiting until you have at least 10 articles in a category before creating a subcategory. Others recommend waiting until you have at least 20 articles. Ultimately, the decision of when to create a new category or subcategory is up to you.
      What is important is that you create categories and subcategories that are logical and easy to navigate. You should also make sure that the categories and subcategories are relevant to your website's content. If you have a category that is not relevant to your website's content, it may be better to delete it.
      If you encounter any issues with Rank Math, you can always raise your question here rankmath.com/support/ and our support team would be happy to assist you.

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад +1

      Hello, Thank you for your comment.
      We assume that your question is about the suggestion in the video to redirect your category pages to your custom designed pages.
      In this case, if you're using the Strip Category Base option, you may end up with the same slug as that of your custom page. But WordPress may still recognize this is a category page and display the contents of your category page and not your custom page. Hence we wouldn't recommend the approach of using Strip Category Base for this purpose.
      Hope it helps!

    Is it a good practice to have more than 1 pillar content in one category?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      Whether or not it's a good practice to have more than one pillar content in one category depends on a few factors, including the size of your category, the complexity of the topic, and your audience's needs.
      In general, it's a good idea to have one pillar content per category. This will help you to create a clear and concise overview of the topic, and it will make it easier for your audience to find the information they're looking for.

    It's a good overview, but honestly, I find this video a bit hard to follow because of all the switching between pages and talks about levels, and niche and authority sites. It's also lacking information on URL structure, which is an important part of site structure. Also, I guess that a pilar page doesn't precisely need to be a category page or a post. It can also be a normal page with a lot of information. Using a category as a pilar page can make it hard for people to navigate to the correct information, as it's just a pile of information.

    Let's say, there are
    Core silo: Software and Apps
    Sub-silos:
    - Mobile Apps
    - Desktop Software
    Core silo: Guides
    If I write about "How to Delete Photos on iPhone and Keep on iCloud" so, normally I'll include it in core: Guides. But, if we pay attention, this is also can included in the Core silo category: Software and Apps, Sub-silos: Mobile Apps.
    So, what steps should be taken?
    Should I use those two? So the post/article will appear in the core: "Software and Applications" - sub: "Mobile Apps" as well as "Guides"?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      Fundamentally, the topic "how to delete photos on iphone..." belongs to Guides, and we think "Software and Applications" are more for talking about the specifics of software and applications, but if software can be internally linked to a guide, by all means.
      We think it is not recommended to have an article to be in multiple categories. Keep it simple, and think about the fundamental and logical purpose of the topic, and sort them according to the category where their purposes align.
      Hope that helps, and please don't hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Jack on minute ~15 for the pillar page, I thought you needed to have content like 2000 word then in the middle of the text put links for each content related to the pillar page. It is my understanding from this video that the pillar page is just a bunchof links to the content?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  5 месяцев назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      A pillar page is not just a bunch of links to related content; it is a high-quality, evergreen piece of content that is essential to a website. It serves as the central point for all other content and includes internal links to other related posts. The pillar page itself contains substantial content and is linked to other articles on the website. This helps in improving the site's overall SEO, attracting links, organizing content, targeting specific keywords, increasing traffic, showcasing expertise, lead generation, reducing bounce rate, improving website structure, and aiding search engines in displaying the best URL in search results for a particular keyword.

When I use the old standard way= posts to categories all works fine. But to rank categories in the serps, you must set internal backlinks form the posts to the category, how I do that in wordpress?

    As you said sillo structure means don't link other category post or page..
    My question: Usually Author name in the beginning of a post and Author bio box are linked with author page or about us page that destroys silo structure.. should it be linked or not for maintaining silo structure??

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Месяц назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      It's important to consider the role of essential pages like author pages, About Us, and Contact Us pages in your overall SEO strategy.
      Google places a significant emphasis on E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness), and author pages play a crucial role in establishing that trust and expertise. Linking to author pages or About Us pages from your content does not harm your silo structure. These links are generally seen as necessary for transparency and credibility.
      In the context of a silo structure, it's recommended to focus on how your core content interlinks within its category. Essential pages like author pages, About Us, and Contact Us should be linked as needed to enhance your site's credibility without worrying about diluting the silo's topical focus.
      These pages serve a different purpose and are integral to building trust with your audience and search engines.
      Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    There's something I don't understand. We created the categories and subcategories on the site. We created a page for the main category and redirected it to the page we created. What about the subcategories? Do we create separate pages for them and redirect them one by one to the pages we created?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  7 месяцев назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      For the main category page, you can optimize it for the main theme or topic of that category. You can then internally link to the subcategories from this main category page to help search engines understand the relationships between your pages.
      As for the subcategories, you don't necessarily need to create separate pages for each subcategory and redirect them individually, unless it is a very important page on your website. Instead, you can optimize the main category page and internally link to the subcategories directly from there. This helps in organizing your content logically and improves the user experience on your website.

    Hey, good video. I'm sure there is a good reason for this, however, why does rank math not have a similar option to yoast where yoast makes a page a category page?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад

      Hello, and thank you for your comment,
      There are a few reasons why Rank Math does not have a similar option to Yoast, where Yoast makes a page a category page.
      1. SEO considerations. Making a page a category page can have negative SEO implications. For example, it can dilute the PageRank of the individual posts in the category, and it can make it more difficult for search engines to understand the content of the category page.
      2. Technical considerations. Making a page a category page can also be technically challenging. For example, it requires the use of custom rewrite rules, and it can break the functionality of some plugins.
      3. User experience considerations. Making a page a category page can also be confusing for users. For example, they may not understand why they are seeing a list of posts on a page that is not actually a category page.
      For these reasons, Rank Math has chosen not to implement a similar option to Yoast.
      Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.

      Hello, Thank you for your comment.
      Are you refering to the topic under Re-Design Category Pages? This is a demo to show you how to restructure your page applying the SILO Structure.
      You can think of the silo structure as a tree structure. Since in a tree structure, a leaf can only be a subset of a single branch, it cannot be attached to multiple branches.
      In a silo structure, you can have generic categories that go into more detailed ones each level you go down and it doesn’t relate to other branches.

Would this cause Keyword Cannibalization by making these sub-pages rank for "home alarms"?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад

      Hello, Thank you for your comment.
      It's unlikely that linking from your pillar article to sub-pages that cover more specific topics will cause keyword cannibalization. As long as your sub-pages are focused on different aspects of home alarms and have unique, relevant content, they should not cannibalize each other's rankings.
      Just make sure that each page has a clear focus and target keyword, and that the content is optimized to match user intent and provide value to the user.

      Yes, it's recommended to target keywords in your category names to help search engines understand the content of your category pages, if you are going to index them.
      When crafting your category titles, consider the outcome of your keyword research. Knowing which keywords people use in their search queries will help you develop highly optimized titles. However, it's also important to ensure that the category names are relevant and provide context to your page. You can find the category titles settings in Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Categories. Great video! You have mentioned never to select more than 1 main category for 1 post. Is this to avoid duplicate content ? Or is there some other reason ? Can i select 2 main categories for a post if my permalink structure is just "postname" ( this would prevent 2 articles from being indexed ). Please advice and explain. Thank you

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  11 месяцев назад

      Hello, and thanks for your comment.
      There are two main reasons why it is generally not recommended to select more than one main category for a post:
      First is SEO: Google and other search engines use categories to help them understand the content of your website and index your pages accordingly. If you assign multiple main categories to a post, it can confuse the search engines and make it more difficult for them to index your post correctly.
      And second, the user experience: Categories are also used to help users navigate your website and find the content they are looking for. If a post is assigned to multiple main categories, it can be difficult for users to know which category to click on to find the post.
      Whether or not you should select two main categories for a post depends on your specific needs. If you are unsure, consulting with an SEO expert is always best.
      Hope this helps. Looking forward to helping you.

    Regarding Silo Structure
    Hello Sir,

    1. If I make pages and link the same on Main Menu of my Home Page, is this right ?
    Or I have to make another like Images and link same.
    2. My Blog is of Android and I made the pages as per your reference, the difficulty I am facing, do I have to link every post on my Category (Respective Pages), because niche is big and not possible to link every post on pages.
    Is this okay, in my theme build-in option post as per category.
    Ex. Page is of Android Watch >All post come under Watch.
    On every page 8 post and Pagination is applied, will it's okay and all pages will be indexed.
    Please reply and hope it clear to other blogger also.

      Hello, Thank you for your comment.
      When it comes to implementing a silo structure on your website, it's important to create a hierarchical organization of content that is relevant and logically connected. This helps search engines understand the thematic relevance and hierarchy of your content. Including pages in your main menu that are part of your silo structure can be a good practice because it can provide clear navigation and accessibility for users.
      However, it's not necessary to create separate menu items for every page or post within your silo structure.
      In the case of your blog with a large niche like Android, it may not be feasible to manually link every post to respective pages within your silo structure. However, there are alternative methods you can consider. Like categories, tags, custom taxonomies, and/or other plugins. This can help establish a connection between your posts and pages, even if you don't manually link each post to its respective page.
      Regarding pagination, it's generally recommended to implement proper pagination techniques, such as using rel="next" and rel="prev" tags, or using canonical tags, to indicate to search engines that the paginated pages are part of a series and should be considered as a single entity. This can help ensure that all pages within your silo structure are indexed and properly attributed for SEO purposes.
      Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.

    what about ecom website ?? I mean What should be the goal of an e-commerce business? is authority or niche?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  2 года назад

      Hello, Thank you for your comment.
      It really depends on what your end goals are.
      A niche site focuses on a subject using a specific set of keywords. These websites rely on a single source of revenue, such as Google Adsense, Clickbank goods, or tangible Amazon merchandise. The majority of specialized websites offer scant material that's intended to result in an immediate "sell" from the visitor.
      An authority site caters to a particular market or community of like-minded people. Because it's intended to be the most comprehensive resource for that subject, it varies from a specialized website. Making an immediate sale is not its main objective. Instead, in order to create a long-lasting (yet lucrative) relationship, the website educates the user.
      Here are some articles that can help you decide which ones to apply:
      empireflippers.com/debate-niche-sites-vs-authority-sites/

      @RankMath  Год назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      We recommend following the 3 Clicks Rule.
      One of the core and most simple rules to follow when it comes to high-quality site structure is that all your important pages should be reachable within a maximum of 3 clicks from your Home Page.
      While this is not a “hard” rule, and it won’t drop all your rankings if you go past it slightly, it’s still a good personal guideline to follow.
      It keeps things simple for you, and it makes navigating your site easier for users and search engine crawlers.

      I am using Kadence Theme and Kadence Blocks. When I Create the new page, add the title and then the Heading "Featured" I have the pillar page URL Copied in the clipboard, I then paste it like I think you are doing here. Problem is the page posts a much smaller thumbnail (It will only cover about Half the page instead of full) and meta description but it is showing as a plain Embed instead of as a Post like your does. Not sure what the difference between what you did and what I am doing?.

    If I have a noindex tag on my existing category page, do I need to allow indexing for the crawl bots to be able to access the 301 redirect to the new category page?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      Google doesn't index redirect pages (just like noindexed pages), they simply hop or skip these redirect pages. So when you have a 301 redirect, a noindex may not be necessary. You can learn more about it here:
      www.seroundtable.com/google-does-not-index-redirects-26702.html
      To have your new category pages indexed, you can directly submit your new category pages for indexing. You can also check the indexing status of your new category page using the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console.
      Hope it helps!
      If you run into any issues, open a support ticket, and we would love to help you sort it: rankmath.com/support/

    bro i have astra theme for my website, i did not created or touched Home page for Silo Structure. It is plain as it is, i have uploaded about 30 articles as well and they are ranking as well. Do i still need to change the home page as per silo structure or I can continue with the default settings?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  7 месяцев назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      To implement a silo structure on your website, you typically organize your content into categories and subcategories to create a thematic hierarchy. While having a silo structure can be beneficial for SEO, especially for larger websites with a wide range of content, it is not mandatory for all websites.
      Since your website is already ranking well with 30 articles and you have not created or touched the homepage for a silo structure, you can continue with the default settings if it is working well for you. Implementing a silo structure at this stage might not be necessary if your current setup is performing satisfactorily.
      If you have any specific SEO concerns or if you want to explore the benefits of implementing a silo structure further, feel free to reach out for more detailed guidance.
      Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    • @RankMath

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      You can set a post, page, or custom post type as pillar content.
      First, create the main Pillar Page that will act as the cornerstone content. This page should contain essential information and links to all related subpages (posts).
      You can check the article about the topic here: rankmath.com/kb/pillar-content-internal-linking/

    • @RankMath

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      Search engines like Google primarily focus on the content itself, not whether it's a blog post, a static page, or something custom-built on the website. They prioritize factors like relevance to the search query, quality of the information, and how well the content is optimized.

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      Yes, you can do that by adding the page in the menu, but it will still be better if you will setup a category redirect so that Google bot can crawl to the contents inside the category and the category redirects will also confirm the structure of the contents.
      Hope this helps.

      @@RankMath Hello, I was wondering about this as well when I watched the video.
      Would the category redirect not slow down my site? And also, do I need to index the category page then so that Google will be able to crawl it? I thought category pages shouldn't be indexed...?

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад

      Hello, thank you for your comment,
      A category redirect can potentially slow down your site if it's not implemented correctly. However, if it's done properly, it should not have a significant impact on your site's speed.
      If you plan to redirect your category pages, then setting those pages as either with the index or noindex directive does not matter, as Google will only consider the final redirected URL. But still, to let Google discover these category pages, you need to ensure that you aren’t blocking these category pages using the robots.txt file.
      Hope that helps, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, if you need help with anything else.

    Please help me. Can I have "douple silo structure"
    - I have a category "Clothing" with 2 children categories:
    1. BIKINI - it has three children categories:
    + Summer bikini
    + One-piece bikini
    + Swimsuit
    2. Dress: it has two children categories:
    + Sundress
    + Satin dress
    However, I want to sell to who loves Unicorn and Butterfly. Hence, I created two niche categories is UNICORN and BUTTERFLY.
    Can I put any product to one niche category (BUTTERFLY or UNICORN) and one "product type" category (one children category of Bikini/Dress)?
    Example: this a product is in "Summer Bikini" (children of Bikini) and Unicorn category.
    Can it hurt SEO ranking? Is it a correct way to build a silo structure website?

    But you can create your silo with Posts and not bother with pages. Then you can use Blog categories like Matt Diggity does

    • @RankMath
      @RankMath  Год назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      Yes, you can create a silo with posts and not bother with pages. This is a valid approach that can be effective for SEO.
      To make it simpler, Posts are more flexible and scalable, but they can be more difficult to organize, while Pages are more organized and permanent, but they are not as flexible.
      The best approach for you will depend on your specific needs and goals. If you need a flexible and scalable solution, then using posts is a good option. However, if you need a more organized and permanent solution, then using pages is a better option.

      We are trying to decide. I guess if we don't use the blog at all, posts. And use pages we would need to use nested pages to help organise them so they don't end up a huge mess. What about category's though do you still use the blogs category's for pages or you have a top level page that is the category and all pages under it are in that category?
      Confused about that bit. People talk about category's a lot and I'm never sure if they are talking organisation or the actual category tab in WordPress where you can create them.
      Draxe looks great using posts and silos. Very organised use of blog.
