Despite all the shitty things Marika has done, they can almost be put aside when we realize she did love her children. I don't think Marika's breaking of the Elden Ring caused the Shattering. Not directly. I think it was her absence more than anything. She broke the ring and its shards were distributed to her eight children, but with her imprisonment, she wasn't there to guide them. That was the "taint" of their newfound power. Marika wasn't there to tell them how to properly use the shards and mediate among them. So, they inevitably turned on each other. Nothing shows the cracks in a family more than the death or absence of a parent.
@@whitejesterNot really. The only reason we would assume that is if she abandoned him intentionally and nothing suggests that. Its far more likely that he was abandoned due to the shattering which means his mom was crucified and hence couldnt do shit. Black knight Andreas spirit ash says messmer fled the erdtree and that he and his son led a rebellion against messmer after learning of the base serpent. This suggests that messmer went back and forth between t LOS and TLB during the crusade and on one of these visits the base serpent showed itself to the erdtree society (likely due to the seal weakening over time) which caused the people to scorn and despise him. If Marika had tried to keep him there, the people could have tried to assassinate him (if messmer's loyal soldiers rebelled against him due the base serpent then what would those people do 💀). The attempts to kill him could result in the seal breaking which could lead to Marika being forced to kill him as the base serpent would take over his body/mind. This is what the fear in Messmer's remembeance description is. The fear of having to kill her own child. She saw the shadow realm as a place where the only threat(the hornsent) were eliminated and hence Messmer would be safe . Hence she sent him there. Did she abandon him after this? Unlikely for 2 major reasons. 1) the tablets at the queen's bedchamber and the storehouse are the same which implies that Marika was learning information from the shadow realm (likely about the jars and could also be about the omen curse) and there is no reason to stop after Messmer fled. 2) the jar infirmary Messmer made in the shadow keep tells us that he was trying to cure the shamans. This could have started before he fled. If so Marika would have known about this. I see no reason for her to stop visiting the shadow realm in attempts to cure her people after messmer fled. Not to mention all the other signs of her love for him we see such as the blessings of Marika, serpent crest shield, his fire that he shared with his followers having a golden hue implieing that she blessed it despite her weakness to fire and the fact that she blessed his black knights with the AOW of her personal weapon goldbreaker. Its pretty clear to me that she loves him and dare I say that he is her favourite child.
@@zen-t3wi think your speculations goes on a bit too far especially the black knight ashes part. Firstly, messmer departure from the erdtree. How did you even get “he returned to the LB from the LOS” from that? It most likely meant messmers departure from the LB to the LOS to enact the crusade on the hornsent. The text before messmers departure said “he remained a devout follower of messmer after his flight from the erdtree”. Item description of fire knights and rellana implied the same thing, that is joining messmers crusade is to be look down upon as something awful by the public but they joined him regardless. From that the texts of black knight andreas meant were “Though andreas remained loyal to messmer after his leave from the erdtree, he still led a rebellion after learning of his lords true nature”. Theres no reason to conclude he went back to the LB. Then messmer whole thing of him unleashing the base serpent in the LB cuz his seals were weakening leading andreas to betray him because of it is entirely a detailed backstory with no evidence from the game. It doesnt make sense anyway, why would a leader of a crusade bring his commander literally the 2 ppl in charge to the homeland in the middle of a war? His eyeball seal worked way better than miquellas stupid needle anyway it seems. Another big point is her protecting him by caging him up in LOS. Again its being held up by speculation rather than evidence like the messmersseals weakening but besides that it doesnt make sense. Why would marika be afraid for her demigod buffcake son w fire powers of being killed? By herself from ur own lore that his seals were weakening? By others? Who? The enemies are dead. And dont explain why and who might im just entertaining the idea IF this story were right. Last little things, the storehouse was an idea pitched by a fire knight to preserve some of the hornsent culture and was approved by messmer. Marikas orders were to slaughter the hornsent all. The storehouse was an idea of somebody else entirely and connecting her and it cuz of stone tablets are reaching a bit. And messmers flame literally have no gold in it💀. Theres more of the darkness of the abyssal serpents in his flames than anything i genuinely dont see gold anywhere. No hate or anything btw
what do you mean man, she is just the vassal to the greater will in the lands between, she clearly just a tool for the greater will to rule over the lands between
She claimed the Ring after Placida-whatever left his followers behind, then she broke it instead of protecting it like she was tasked. She broke it to remove the Death Rune, I think it's probably hinting that she was either punished by being bound to the ring or she willingly did that to herself to keep it from fully shattering following her removal of Destined Death. She bent the laws a nature for selfish desire for her people to become immortal, which worked but she paid the price hence they worship her yet she's eternally punished.
Yeah, I don't think the game lets us give our character a dump-truck arse consisting of the entire baking industry of the labs between packed into two buns. Like, holy *shxt,* no wonder Godfrey came back to try again.

I'd argue the demigods ARE at their peak when we find them. After all, they have Great Runes. Marika & Radagon have seen better days, and Godwyn's dead, but I'd say the living demigods are more powerful than they've ever been.

Queen Marika is my favourite Elden Ring character, she arouses so many feelings in me ... Even now that she only seems to be a petrified and broken shell you can still see the beautiful and awe inspiring goddess who ruled over blessed lands and was loved by her subjects. Also i can imagine the pain and grief she felt as a mother when her son Godwyn was murdered. The scene when the Tarnished picks up what is left of her head and puts it onto her body again feels so sad and heart breaking to me.
If you do the frenzy ending, her head crumbles into dust instead, without Tarnished even touching it. Meaning, the ending where her head is put back unto her body, she is "repaired" like Elden Ring itself. Hence, she lives on.
@@mau228 Does this mean that she is going to come back to life again in her normal physical form or that her soul is not dead like Ranni's? Also i wonder how she could destroy the Elden Ring when it is inside her.
@@andibichler2 no she comes back and as you repair the elden ring you become married to her I don’t know the details of what’s after up to the player’s imagination I guess
Does the lore ever explain the spear in her torso? It looks separate to the magic that’s holding her up. And it blew apart her other hair braid and arm. Showing that it was probably thrown at her when she was already up there… It means that we probably weren’t the first to visit Marika in the tree. And there is apparently a sculptor in the lore that knew Marika’s dual identity. And the statues look really similar…
Visually it is similar to the power of destined death. We know from item descriptions and dialogue that Maliketh who has sole power over destined death was loyal to Marika to the end. So why would she be pierced with destined death, a power only her ally and servant possessed? Because she wanted to be. Pierced by death, her body is no longer a suitable vessel for the Elden ring. Forcing the greater will/golden order to call upon the tarnished to come to the lands between and seek the Elden ring. Another slightly varying interpretation is that if maliketh is a shadow of Marika under the greater will (as Blaidd is to Ranni) the greater will perhaps forced maliketh to attack her once she betrayed the golden order. Check out videos by tarnished archaeologist. He’s a really underrated Elden ring lore RUclipsr and imo he has done the most to crack the mysteries of Elden ring.
@@SandyCheeks1896 i think the spear only arrived after the release of the rune of death and also because the tarnished arrived only for taking the place of elden lord not for become also a vessel in fact marika will remain however the vessel of the elden ring in fact in the normal or the mendings runes endings we repair the body of marika by putting the head at his place

Marika wasn't there to tell them how to properly use the shards and mediate among them. So, they inevitably turned on each other. Nothing shows the cracks in a family more than the death or absence of a parent.
That love her children is questionable after we saw what happened to Messmer
Queen Marika double cheeked up! 😳😂
funny how they
worship her as a god yet treat her like a sinner at the same time
JeSUS be like
yeah the game is aware of that, that's why gold mask quest exists. Rune of Perfect Order
what do you mean man, she is just the vassal to the greater will in the lands between, she clearly just a tool for the greater will to rule over the lands between
I mean, she is the one who broke the Elden Ring. I doubt she was treated like this prior to it.

Tbh I wish we could create Marika in the character customization - but she seems to have an entirely unique model like most of humanoid bosses.

We need a DLC set in the past where she's actually alive.
What's terrible is that she is still alive (she's the same being as Radagon). She's just been crucified for eternity after trying to rebel against the Greater Will, still a vessel for it to use.
@@marmaladedragonturtle5197 It was fuckin crazy of her to do that. Didn't she know the Greater Will would actually be pissed and probably kill her or something? By doing that she fucked up the lands between

This really reminded me of End of Evangelion with the whole red spear and crucifixion thing. It's also interesting to note that she falls through the spear, just like another certain character.

I’ve kneeled prior 2:09

An even worse one than now probably
If they are at peak the flight for power simply won't happen
that’s fromsoftware for you
I'd argue the demigods ARE at their peak when we find them. After all, they have Great Runes. Marika & Radagon have seen better days, and Godwyn's dead, but I'd say the living demigods are more powerful than they've ever been.
@@myamdane6895 Pretty sure Radahn isnt at peak since he's literally dying *and* holding back the stars(aliens) while also not deactivating the magic that makes him lighter for Leonard. Still despite all that he is so badass he's alive for his funeral and shoot spears he was stabbed with as arrows and was only killed by a small army of the Lands mightiest champions.
Well I can see why they switched her to Radagon. Ain't no way we'd be able to focus on Marika with that posterior

Like the other dude said in the Elden lord endings she isn’t dead
@@mau228 Does this mean that she is going to come back to life again in her normal physical form or that her soul is not dead like Ranni's?
Also i wonder how she could destroy the Elden Ring when it is inside her.
@@andibichler2 no she comes back and as you repair the elden ring you become married to her I don’t know the details of what’s after up to the player’s imagination I guess
Boy there hints that's she ordered the death of Goldwyn you know her son 😂
We got the lore reason why Hoarah Loux had such a pancake face… I mean, that massive stone rump must be devastating
Lore wise i can see why everyone was simpin hard for her.
WOAH didn't expect the booty shot
Does the lore ever explain the spear in her torso? It looks separate to the magic that’s holding her up. And it blew apart her other hair braid and arm. Showing that it was probably thrown at her when she was already up there… It means that we probably weren’t the first to visit Marika in the tree. And there is apparently a sculptor in the lore that knew Marika’s dual identity. And the statues look really similar…
The italian community think that could be the rune of death after his realese
I remember a theory video by Tarnished Archeologist going really into detail on it.
Really sad we never get to fight her, I mean, we do but just in her rule 63 version. It’d be interesting to see if they made a dlc with her as the main enemy.

Well judging by the first cinematic trailer, the shattering of the ring also shattered her.
Queen Marika the Eternal needed to pull herself back together and pick up the pieces.
I was so confused when she became Radagon but it all makes sense now (kinda).
The 2019 trailer had the big twist of the game in it. I noticed back then the character turned into a female.
The amazing thing about the intro to the fight is if you didn't play attention to or just missed the lore you'd be kind confused and left questioning like why do I fight Radagon and not Marika because the change between the two is seamless and shows the duality of gods and royalty works in elden ring
