I saw this play twice in London 7 years ago. I found it truly extraordinary. I had no idea that a play could be so frightening ! The actors were so talented! I hope one day I'll have the chance to see it again.
Saw this with school back in the 2000s and it's stuck with me ever since. Read the book, saw both the tv and movie versions but the play really creeped its way into my subconcious and to this day is the only piece of horror storytelling that has ever kept me from sleeping. Incredibly minimalist, at first i hated how barebones it is but the imagination is a powerfull tool. Incredibly acted and those sounds... the sounds are truly haunting. Much like Arthur Kipps those screams and the sound of the carriage have been stuck with me. Since i didn't get to go see it again before it closed last year this is the closest i can get to reliving it. I really appreciate the upload!
Saw this 20 years ago in London, and the story STILL terrifies me! It's about to finish in London soon, so I hope to see it one more time. Am watching this in the hope of preparing myself for the horrifying screams, and intense story telling.
A very fine production of a clever and evocative play which is vastly superior to the over-the-top film version which had a ludicrously changed ending and was ridiculously cast with a far too young Daniel Radcliffe.
Watch the movie version on TV yesterday and it was terrifying. The scene when the Woman in Black screams remind me of a play I saw in London way back during the late 90's. Surprisingly it was actually the play version of a same title 😁👍🏼
I love this play I wish I could see it in London on day I saw The first performance in My county, México with Rafael Perrin and Odiseo Bichir...and Patricia Perrin as the woman in black 🖤
Absolutely phenomenal, i loved this! The actors are so talented, the lighting is impeccable, the sound effects always on point and the costumes were really well suited! I really enjoyed this, and it was EXCEPTIONALLY useful for my GCSE in Drama, as I couldn't find any other full showing of this, so well filmed anywhere! Thank you!! Much appreciated!
Yes . Not sure what the Director had in mind . ? Dreadful stuff. Anyone who came in search of an atmospheric Victorian ghost story must have had 2 nd thoughts. Try the BBC Radio version for comparison .?
@@2msvalkyrie529the director was adapting the book for stage and since the book uses the framing device of writing a story in hopes of exorcising the nightmares the play added the performative aspect for the same reason, even using the first chapter of the book verbatim to explain it. It also helps the audience feel more involved for the ending twist of "there was no woman" because we've all seen her and if she wasn't really there maybe our families are in danger too. It's kind of brilliant in my opinion and part of the reason why the play is my personal favourite version of the story.
Oh man, you're doing the play version for GCSEs this year? I didn't do it for GCSEs specifically, but during my English class for the year before (same group at my school) we read the book and compared it to the movie, but never touched the play. I didn't get around to watching it (this production specifically) until the pandemic, but the play is easily my favourite version of the three.

“This is fantasy, absurd. The truth is quite other, and all together more terrible.”
One of my favorite lines to set the stage.

It will be doing a UK tour starting in September 2023 if you didn't get to see it again in London.
Remarkable saw today at Richmond Theatre on tour. Last time was 30 years ago London. Still chilling.
@@samg4965Damn will they do being it in 2025? I'm interested in seeing it.

I went and saw this play for my GCSE Drama and my word it scared me more than any horror movie that’s ever existed 😂
Bravo, that was excellent!!!
I remember when I went to the play and saw this opening, I thought we had gone into the wrong show.

@@2msvalkyrie529 I wasn't criticizing. Once you realize what's happening it's actually quite clever.

Stage play
This man has no feel for language whatsoever.
My thoughts exactly!
The fault lies with the Director I fear ?
You mean the actor, or the play? Which actor - or both?
