ARCH / MATHEOS playing the FATES WARNING classic "Guardian" @ KEEP IT TRUE 2012 in front of an ecstatic crowd... Amazing experience after more than 25 years
For real. I never imagined something like this would ever happen since Ray Alder took over (WHom I love as a vocalist), and that Arch would be this good 30 years later.
I totally agree John Arch is the fucking shit. I've been listening to this dude for God I don't even know how many years 20 maybe more ....always a pleasure and I hope for another 20 years
Damn. John Arch lives eternal. He sounds fantastic, especially after such a long hiatus. I'll never forget the day I heard this song on the radio at 2AM and went out and spent my teenager pocket money on a vinyl copy of "Awaken the Guardian."
I was asked whether or not to keep My BestFriend on Life Support and while I was sitting in my car outside of the Hospital Thinking and Dying inside... This song came on the College radio station... This Song is Incredible... and a Penance of sorts....
I have had to pull the plug on people 3 or 4 times over the years. It is never pleasant. But if you believe someone is a traveller, then you must send them on their way. I pray someone does it for me someday.
That gig was insane! I was in the first row, right in front of John, screaming my lungs out and giving everything! A once in a lifetime experience and one of the best moments ever! Thank you John for sharing this evening with us! You rule!
Why has it taken me 2 years to see this performance? I am weeping right now! :'D But I would have been sobbing like a child if I had gone to see this :').
I actually got teary watching and singing along to this video. One of my all time favorite Fates Warning songs. Brilliant band, brilliant song, brilliant singer. John Arch, you have been missed!
Setlist: 01. Neurotically Wired 02. Midnight Serenade 03. The Sorceress 04. Stained Glass Sky 05. Damnation 06. The Apparition 07. Any Given Day/Strangers Like Me 08. Guardian Zugabe: 09. Epitaph 10. Exodus that was one of the best days in my life !!!
The most stunning, ascendant, magickal song ever. If art is the ultimate communication between humans, who without it are unable to touch, like "parallel" lines on the same plane, then, like a talisman, this song touches the hearts and souls with a potent poignancy that cannot be explained. It is unspoken words in our soul, and glorious beyond expression.
He sounds better live now than he did back in the day. His melodies are so intricate and he didn't hit them anywhere near as consistently in the 80s as he does here. A pure joy. I wish they would've pro-recorded one of the shows they did, since the man won't tour.
the whole album with the lineup is going to be played live April 2016 @ "Keep It Triue" Festival in Europe. Including drummer Steve Zimmerman. www.blabbermouth.net/news/fates-warnings-awaken-the-guardian-lineup-to-headline-2016-edition-of-keep-it-true-festival/
What a masterful work of art! Thank you,John Arch,Jim Matheos,Frank Aresti,Joe DiBiase,And Steve Zimmerman for giving the world this shining example of what genuine music sounds like! Awaken The Guardian is the gold-standard of what a metal album should be!
How about Frank X and his great backing vocals! This is my all time favorite song and has been since the album came out on vinyl. And to think the only reason I bought it in the first place was because of the cool cover art. If I had known about this show I would have drove up from Florida!
This is like going to church and really, really believing that wine is turned into blood there. I had an almost religious experience watching this. And look at all those people, many of them are younger than this song, but they seem to have been waiting for this all their life long... :) all this at the tiny little KIT festival where I spent loads of money for fries, beers and CDs a few years ago...awesome :)
Incredible.....look at the crowd reaction. Next Saturday night is going to be crazy in Hartford. I hope it wasn't too much of a struggle for Jim to play the older songs(ha, ha). Nothing against the Alder FW, but this is classic.
I first heard about these guys at an Iron Maiden show in 91. This kid I next to at the maiden show told me that I would like these guys. So I went out and bought Guardian on cassette, cause back in those days most people didn't have cd players yet. That album blew my mind at how talented they were. All the guitar riffs were totally original and the dual lead melodies are what drew me in. Then Arch's singing ability being as incredible as it was made me a fan. That guardian album was their crowning achievement, imo.
Fates Warning has made " theories of flight " Its as close to a perfect album as you can get . Fates Warning just kept getting better , album after album after album. I like awaken the guardian very much , but Matheos just kept making awesome albums.
Simply amazing show. 2 guys next to me were crying like a babies during this song:)I am so lucky that I could be there. Thanx John , Jim and the rest of guys for unforgettable evening!
One, the one here. Apparantly either for contract or PC reasons they let Ray stick around (even though they make it clear they don't really want him) and he's pathetic enough to stay knowing they don't want him.
WHOAAA!! O___O This is amazing. It's epic. It's timeless. It's unbelievable. I wish I could have been there. This is what true pleasure for metal is all about. All of a sudden I'm 20 years younger...
wow...one of the best descriptions of the performance i have seen and i wasnt there....lol...but had the same exact reaction in ct....u can sense the enegy from kit and from the vids posted from ct....we all saw the kit vids and were ready to lock ourselves in plastic bio-germ free bubbles so nothing would happen to us while we waited the week before our show............we both got the identical set...and all agree hands down epic perf epic night and epic gift from john n jim
He sounds so good...so what if he hit some bum notes. I'd love to see anyone else try to sing this... I think he sounds better than Alder at this point...
This is the best thing ive seen on You tube for awhile. The world has been waiting for this for 25 years, so cool to see the crowd showing there appreciation for this band they well and truly derserve it, wish I could of been at this gig but unfortunatly it didnt happen. You need to play in the UK. Btw patboonemetal did you film any more of this gig, would love to see some more. Awesome footage!
Setlist KEEP IT TRUE Festival, Germany, 2012-04-28: - Neurotically Weird - Midnight Serenade - Sorceress - Stained Glass Sky - Damnation - Apparition - Any Given Day/Strangers Like Me - Guardian - Epitaph - Exodus A day that will be long remembered!
This is my favorite song off of Awaken the Guardian. I hope this and the next show helps John get over his "tour phobia." He's lookin' good up there on stage.
John Arch = one of the most iconic voices in metal
Jim Matheos = one of the most iconic songwriters in metal
...THIS is how you make an old metalhead come to tears lol
damn true :-)
you had to say it and make the flood gates open.
A beautiful blast to the glorious past!!
For real. I never imagined something like this would ever happen since Ray Alder took over (WHom I love as a vocalist), and that Arch would be this good 30 years later.
John Arch fkn rules, pure class one of the best voices in metal ~
I totally agree John Arch is the fucking shit. I've been listening to this dude for God I don't even know how many years 20 maybe more ....always a pleasure and I hope for another 20 years

Was right next to you, in front of Jim ;)
parts of this song still send chills down my spine
First heard this song back in 1986. To this day still one of my top 5 Fates Warning songs. This sends shivers down the spine.
If I was there, I probably would've shed a tear or two seeing this unfold. Truly AMAZING.
Me too bud ,I kick my ass for not going .I hope they do more shows in the future.
nemtall shit dude, just watchin it on youtube makes me weepy! Haha
Why has it taken me 2 years to see this performance? I am weeping right now! :'D
But I would have been sobbing like a child if I had gone to see this :').
It's incredible how the music and emotion can transcend even through a video, just bugs me the fuck out. Cheers!
I found out about this show 3 days after. Never been so upset.
I actually got teary watching and singing along to this video. One of my all time favorite Fates Warning songs. Brilliant band, brilliant song, brilliant singer. John Arch, you have been missed!

Merciful fate had me leaning towards metal but this FW sealed the deal and made me a metal head for life.
I would love to see them back together.

Jim Matheos, has had a major influence on my style...These guys are awesome, to say the least.
yeah, FW should have been a stadium act by this time...... one of top 3 most consistent metal bands in history...... they still kick major ass......
The most stunning, ascendant, magickal song ever. If art is the ultimate communication between humans, who without it are unable to touch, like "parallel" lines on the same plane, then, like a talisman, this song touches the hearts and souls with a potent poignancy that cannot be explained. I have used this album as a "power up" for rituals. And for meditations, of course.
He sounds better live now than he did back in the day. His melodies are so intricate and he didn't hit them anywhere near as consistently in the 80s as he does here. A pure joy. I wish they would've pro-recorded one of the shows they did, since the man won't tour.
i kind of wish he showed off some of that beautiful vibrato he had on his record.
The epitome of greatness! Enough said. Just sit back and worship!
john arch looks like he missed being on stage.......Great to have you back john !!!!

Holy shit, John Arch still has it. All of it. His voice is fucking amazing here, this is utterly magical.
I grew up with these guys. It's so good to hear them play in modern times...
Ye godz I would love to have been there. Seeing John and the band together again would be so amasing.
What a masterful work of art! Thank you,John Arch,Jim Matheos,Frank Aresti,Joe DiBiase,And Steve Zimmerman for giving the world this shining example of what genuine music sounds like! Awaken The Guardian is the gold-standard of what a metal album should be!
Frank gets so little credit...Besides being an amazing guitarist he performs excellent harmonies on backing vocals.
I love how frank is the second guitarist he and jim have great chemistry together 🤘

One of the best nights in my live, fantastic fantastic fantastic...
Wow, John sounds perfect! Just under a week until I see them in Hartford, can't wait!

Still Waiting for them to come to San Antonio TX
I was there yesterday. Amazing show. Thanx for sharing this recording.
Sure takes me back; absolutely epic! Arch is the true voice of Fates Warning to me.
How about Frank X and his great backing vocals! This is my all time favorite song and has been since the album came out on vinyl. And to think the only reason I bought it in the first place was because of the cool cover art. If I had known about this show I would have drove up from Florida!
John arch .incredible vocalist and incredible vocal melody instrumentalist, definitely the exception to any garbage mainstream rule.
This is like going to church and really, really believing that wine is turned into blood there. I had an almost religious experience watching this. Incredible.....look at the crowd reaction. Next Saturday night is going to be crazy in Hartford. I hope it wasn't too much of a struggle for Jim to play the older songs(ha, ha). Nothing against the Alder FW, but this is classic.
This is truly in my top 5 albums of all time, I put it next to Puppets, Floyd, Ozzy, and Peace Sells.
Unreal voice always wondered what happen to john.
That song gives me chills to my core!!
I first heard about these guys at an Iron Maiden show in 91. This kid I next to at the maiden show told me that I would like these guys. Great band..blessed with 2 phenominal singers through the years
One, the one here. Apparantly either for contract or PC reasons they let Ray stick around (even though they make it clear they don't really want him) and he's pathetic enough to stay knowing they don't want him.
