I'm a cynic on this because if that's the case then it could be done in any other era before. Its because Shindong is more in spotlight than most of the members and thus he's being highlighted. Just like how Kyuhyun was the highlight some months ago. As much as we want to believe they are perfect friends of each other, at the end of the day it's all business. Heechul is not even the main focus of super junior anymore because he's damn successful in variety shows. I hope I'm wrong.

These second gen idols like SUJU, 2PM AND BIG BANG, would end their contract and go on with their shows, acting careers or solo acts in music. If you wanna know strictly business, its groups like Miss A or other groups who disband after a member leaving due to having solo success

Heechul cant participate in SJ's activity cause his injury and he has already apologized for repeatedly to ELF... But, he still wanna show fans that he's still part of SJ too, thats why we can still see HC in SJ' video though his part just a little... I mean we should appreciate HC' effort, its not easy to recording in his hectic schedule right now... With this, we can see their family's bond is real not just business partner..
For all of you that wondering why Shindong get the spotlight now, not beforehand. I just want to remind you that he is THE MAIN DIRECTOR for SJ Label documentaries projects. Learn to be a good director is as hard as become a trainee, and I believe that it's by Shindong consent he choose to focus on behind the scene process to support his group. And why now we wonder right? I think that's because he starting to enjoy his role as director, he knows the flow now, he is comfortable, that's why he is ready to blow out the stage again alongside his members. Shindong has a long portofolio history for his role as Video Director - SJ mv - SJ vlive - SJ sushow vcr - SJ returns (maybe just a helper) - Members solo mv - Other group or artist mv from fellow SM mates - Several SM Station videos - Celebfive mv - Many more It's just most of people didn't notice his hardwork behind the scene because we used to object someone just by screentime. I'm proud of him eventhough he is not my bias. Actually... I love all of them tho. And Shindong is my new role model in visual works, since I'm a fellow visual artists. His hardwork is my main motivations to bring my own studio to a successful path.
The thing is in the beginning and actually, until recently, he never used to get a lot of attention from the camera in general as well as very few lines in songs until he starting becoming more vocal about wanting more screen time. He was on masked singer as well as other variety shows where he pointed out that he wants more lines but SM had always given him so few. I'm so thankful that he's finally able to get more recognition and screen time. He's super talented and so hardworking!
We have to see Shindong now as he's become slimmer and loss his chubby cheeks.. SuJu is awesome. They do look young and still on par with the younger idols.. Both in dance and vocal..
