- After finding that Uniqlo makes the best cheap Selvedge Denim I was curious to see what their other denim garments were like. So I took another trip to a store ands picked up a few pieces to see just what the denim offering was like.

They're actually using Kaihara denim on a lot of their offerings now. The women's Baggy Jeans they have up right now come in a beautiful rich dark one-wash, classic lemon yellow stitching throughout that really makes it look like one of the classic japanese levis repro brands, like an oversized sugarcane 47. Lovely texture, lovely weight at what seems like 10oz at most, incredible fit for me, very baggy straight anti-fit. They do fit like 4 inches bigger than tag size by the way, so watch for that. You get what you pay for in construction, though it does have some chain stitching and felled out/inseams, but the fabric punches waaaay above it's weight there. Got mine for $40 canadian, dirt cheap. Well worth it.
I really like their designs but their consistent sweatshop labour practices are a hard no for me. Part of the charm of most selvedge denim brands for me is that they are ethically made.
Yeah. I agree that they could and should be doing a lot more.
Which inturn makes it non-affordable which Uniqlo is known for. It's a big trade-off, ethnically made for high costs or a somewhat exploitation for affordable price and wider availability for people.
It’s the reason I only buy aizome denim, I’d rather pay too dollar for top dollar rather than paying in to a slave class of manufacture. It’s good to hear from someone who shares that opinion.
@@tgm.nabam101 Its a bit more than somewhat exploitation though. Uniqlo are called out every year by a different report. Affordability doesn't have to mean that you need to exploit people. Levis or nudie jeans are ethical (and won awards for it) and aren't sold at a huge premium. I can get a Levis t-shirt for around the same cost as a Uniqlo one in my country.
😂
The model of outsourcing production to cheaper countries doesn't have to mean workers are paid next to nothing and work in disgusting and dangerous environments. Unfortunately, the reality is that most brands who go down that route do so purely because it allows them to treat people like dirt and largely escape scrutiny. But it is possible to pay fairly in relation to local cost of living standards, provide much-needed employment with decent conditions, tap into highly skilled workforces and traditional techniques and turn a profit. On the face of it, SoSo Brothers (among others) seem to do just that. I've been delighted with the items I've bought from them and, going by the info on their website, they seem to take ethical production very seriously. Anyone have any thoughts on them, or other similar brands?
I wasn't really aware of Uniqlo until this video and have just visited their website. Their prices are incredible, for what looks like pretty nice stuff.
All I can say is that I've been wearing their chinos for a good few years now.... they're good. They're VERY good. I've always been a 501 fan for years, but I'd be quite comfortable getting my next pair of jeans from Uniqlo.
FYI all Uniqlo clothes are a bit oversized but shrink when you wash and dry them. They shrink well if that makes sense… like they are meant to shrink a tiny bit
Ah yeah? Makes sense. Cheers.
6:29 It's the first time I see these triple stitches on a Uniqlo Denim shirt. I have an older one that doesn't have them. It seems that they have improved this product over the years. Not sure about the denim though. I doubt it's Kaihara, otherwise they would advertise it. Nice video!
have you done a video on bronson mfg. i would love to see a review of some of their products :D
Hmm. I’ve had a few folk asking about that. I’m reluctant because then I’d have to deal with the german customs and import. Horrible horrible 😂
Their prices are scary good at uniqlo. I've been enjoying Brave Star jeans. I don't have the experience to know how they compare to other brands but they are definitely better than what I can get at the "mall"
True that and I think brave star jeans are pretty good. I just heard nightmare stories about their customer service.
I have a few pairs of BraveStars, and two of their jackets. I should probably diversify my wardrobe but they offer such great value, and they ship to me in the UK as fast as can be expected from LA.
@@CeeAreDee maybe... My early experience with them was excellent (2014 ish ..) even replaced my order to Spain when I got the wrong size.
Also, one of the few to make selvedge chinos. Although for that I would highly recommend Akka Denim's chino... UK based too.
Unfortunately in UK Uniqlo offerings are zip fly, i hate them, I've still got a pair of Uniqlo from 15 years ago, when they had Japanese selvedge and were top quality, with buttons flys
Fast fashion strikes again! Lol. I still like made in Japan stuff the best!
Agreed, but that workshirt is really good for its price point.
In my experience, Uniqlo is only good for the raw denim, supima tees, sweaters and socks. Everything else is is what you’d expect from fast fashion but they are still leagues above all the others
I can't say enough good things about BraveStar and Gustin. Both A+++
Heard good things about Gustin too. Never seen a pair tho. Brave star. I’ve seen a pair of their jeans but I heard in the comments ok that video that the customer service is just so bad. Shame as the jeans are decent enough.
@@CeeAreDee I'm wearing a pair of Gustins now. Love them. I've had nothing but positive experiences with BraveStar. They generally ship to my UK address in a week or two, fully insured.
Hi. What will be you advise... I'd buy heavy denim because of sick fades. But, I'm living in Cyprus. 8 months too hot and humid. I was reading that only 17+oz denim can have sick fades. The heaviest one from my jeans was ED 71 (14oz). I like IH 666s but I'm afraid that with 21oz I'm going to be cooked... Thank you
Haha. It’s minus 3 in Berlin right now and even then id not go for 21oz. But that’s just me. I don’t much like denim heavier than 14 oz. But to be honest. Weight does t have too much to do with fading potential. It’s more about lifestyle and how much you wear the jeans. I guess the reason you see so many examples of sick fades on jeans like iron heart is that the folks wearing them are really really crazy dedicated to their jeans. I was im Cyprus in November and even then I was having issues wearing my 14 oz TCB’s. If I were you. I’d get something lighter and wearable. Then you’ll be more likely to wear them longer and the longer you wear the better the fades.
@@CeeAreDee Thank you for your time. You helped me make a decision. If you come to Cyprus again, stop for a coffee in Paphos. Best regards!
@@bojanmicic2398 I will do buddy.
In my experience starch denim does great whiskers, they are strong and there is a lot of them, much more than in regular 100% cotton denim but honeycombs are extremely slow and seems like denim started to thin up before they actually become viable
I have a pair of uniqlo with 1% kaihara stretch. They were mad hard to fade. Now after 4 years they have some nice fades.
ecru denim is the rawest, most pure form of raw denim, fight me
That’s just a twill ecru twill
I missed the "SHOCKED!" part. Clickbait?
I have a Uniqlo denim jacket from years ago, I bought it cause it was one of the lat made with USA cone denim.
Man. That was a good buy then. Nice!
Hello, new to your channel and i'm sure this has been asked before, but what is the I.D on your trucker jacket in the beginning of the video?
That’s a 3sixteen collab with Schott nyc. One of my favourites
Anyone know what the Wabash shirt is at 0:18?
I believe it's the UNIQLO Denim Work Jacket. If you search for a channel named "Jovenal Narcise" he has a mini-review of the jacket. I would check if it's available in your country because it's not in Canada.
It’s the same cut as the chore coat. It was tempting but in the end the ecru won. The wabash was a bit too much 1920s railroads for me.
It’s a great brand name : Unique and Low Priced. It’s much better than Muji . Everything in that store is blue, grey or white. Probably why Muji is losing customers and revenues.
I live in Japan and Uniqlo is pretty crap over here. Just cheap stuff. Zara much better style and fashion if you wanna go cheap. Maybe it’s different oversees. I never buy it here.
What’s that brown suede jacket you’re wearing at the beginning? Fit looks great
3sixteen x Schott nyc collab from last year. It’s one of my favourites.
Nice video, always been curious about Uniqlo denim. What is the watch you are wearing ?
That’s a Tudor date day.
@@CeeAreDee cheers!
Yes
🙏🏻😂👍🏻
@@CeeAreDee in anothet video you have a "don't bring me down" leather jacket. Is that from "ornamental conifer"? If you know you know ;)
@@lukemcevoy2385 ooft. Unfortunately not. It’s from a local sign painter here in Germany. I’d love something from ornamental conifer one day tho.
Where is your suede leather jacket from?
I been jumping around your videos… this one’s production is soooo satisfying. The intro points with the light switch scene breakup was 👌
Awesome, thank you! Appreciate the kind words.
Uniqlo in Canada is shite, especially online
The quality or the service?
@@CeeAreDee The online selection is especially bad, and there are no stores in Winnipeg. The London UK store was amazing when we visited a number of years back.
@@88sstraight weird that the online is limited. I’d have thought they would have more than the physical stores.
@@CeeAreDee That’s Canadian online that’s no good, UK and US are much better.
@@88sstraight I really liked the store in Edmonton when I went a month or two ago
The camera angles!!!!!!!
🙏🏻
what model?
Uniqlo U line.
What watch are you wearing?
Gotta be dickies hands down when it comes to carpenter jeans, undefeated undisputed
I have never been to a Uniqlo and I have never worn anything from there. I do have a couple long sleeve modal blend t shirts from there that I got as a gift and never wore. They are very soft. The styles look decent enough. I just think it’s funny how Japan considers it disposable clothing. I mean all fast fashion is meant to fall apart quick, but Americans never call old navy or Aeropostale disposable. Lol
Hello my big beautiful (and blue) German friend...do you recommend sizing up or going true to size with the selvedge one? Big thanks nice 💍 awesome 👢
Uniqlo used to use Uighur prisoners in China for manufacturing their products, but not anymore. Let's forgive them and enjoy their stuff.
😎
I just think uniqlo is like the king of 2022 fast fashion so I don't like it
Uniqlo isn’t fast fashion, their quality are the best value for money that last. Cheap doesn’t = fast fashion.
Guess I’d still lump them in with fast fashion. Even though they are the best in fast fashion I’ve seen.
I wish you’d bought clothes that fit
Like my mamma says. I’ll grow into them.
You look good with a bigger fit
