Ippei has a history of gambling, Shohei has no history nor any interest of gambling, and Ippie is known for lying. In 2018 Ippei claims that he graduated from the University of California-Riverside in 2007, and also claimed he workedcl as an interpreter for the Red Sox in 2012, that also was false on Ippeis part.

From my understanding even though Shohei made 2 million a year in Japan he gave all his money to his mother to manage.
She would give him $1000 a month in allowance
Which he apparently did not spend all of that allowance every month.
Now we are going to jump to the conclusion he was gambling millions

      What are yours?
You guys make over $50 million a year from advertising alone, give me a rational reason why Otani would gamble.
As for the money transfers, it is said that he left some of his accounts completely free to Mizuhara. So there was already such a trusting relationship.

Even if Shohei sent money electronically to the bookmaker, it is still NOT ILLEGAL if Shohei was tricked into paying off the debt by being told that it was a loan debt, not a gambling debt. The answer is in front of all where the transfer says, "loan." Shohei was tricked into paying off the gambling debt by being told it was just a personal loan debt. That is LARCENY BY TRICK, i.e. THEFT! Shohei is INNOCENT if this is the case.

There are things about his background that doesn't match up, which leads to some credibility that he lied to Shohei about the money. Whether the interpreter had access to Shohei's bank account, I don't know, but it's possible depending on how much Shohei trusted him. Then again, banks usually check to confirm wires of this amount, but they usually just call. How will they know the interpreter from Shohei if the interpreter does all the talking for him. OR, this is just Shohei throwing the interpreter under the bus.

It would have been better to wait until after Ohtani's press appearance on Monday before going through a litany of potential questions. Anyway,
I listened to the full public statements by Ohtani and found him both sincere and very credible. He said he never bet on sports or had anyone bet on his behalf. He said he was unaware of Ippei's gambling addiction and that Ippei lied about the matter once it came to public attention that a bookie had Ohtani's name in his records. So the gist of this is that Ohtani's close friend, translator and associate betrayed him.
There seems to be a contingent of haters posting here and elsewhere who distrust Ohtani's statements. That's their problem, slandering a man whose character has been well-established for many years now. Let the investigations go forward and see what more might be uncovered. But for now, I believe Ohtani has spoken honestly on the main points. Naturally, most of us would like to know how Ippei had so much access to at least one account with Ohtani's money. But it seems clear that Ohtani trusted his friend, and Ippei betrayed the trust. And, as mentioned in this video, it also seems clear now that Ippei lied about several key elements in his bio. Yikes, he may just be a convincing sociopath who finally met his reckoning. But the shadow this casts over Ohtani is really unfortunate. I do hope he will more thoroughly vet his associates and good friends moving forward.

all he had to do was go to the Jays and then he could have paid any one off.
But Cali as a State does not allow any sports' betting at all. all bets are illegal. a fool stays in the one state where he can be charged for his ignorance.
Only a fool does not read and learn the laws of the State where he lives and makes a living. deportation might now occur, to Canada.
The jays might work out a Trade for the fool. the jays have the money to pay the bets' off too.

I just have a hunch, and i hope im wrong, Ohtani might end up like Pete Rose at the end of this

Based on what I think I know about Shohei's character I think his statement will be 1) I do not / have never bet on any sports, 2) Ippei's original statement is correct, 3) the crisis team made a statement on his behalf without his approval, 4) I will be willing to fully cooperate with any investigation and will be willing to accept any punishment.

if the fool had gone to toronto, he would not have a problem. Cali as a State does not allow any betting at all. all bets are illegal as per State law.
the fool stayed in the 1 State where what he did was illegal.

Doesn't matter... Doesn't matter if any bet was even placed or not let alone on baseball! That's distraction! 🙄
Made a criminal wire transfer of funds to an illegal bookie which breaks the law AND baseballs rule prohibiting ANY contact or association with any illegal gambler or operation 😉

@@JustMeELC Agreed. We've heard over and over from pro ballplayers is that the only way to come anywhere close to what Ohtani does is to be completely dedicated to baseball above all else. I think he's so obsessed with baseball that he has no time to gamble or try to understand what he was doing when he helped Ippei out. He probably didn't think it was illegal. Now that he knows, I think he'll be willing to accept the consequences.
