Historical Fact: Re-chambered to fire the NATO 7.62-millimeter cartridge, the MG-42 continued to serve in the post-war West German Bundeswehr, with the Germans eventually re-designating the weapon the 'MG-3' in the 1960s.
I once cane against a 4 enemy squad and they all had mg42 while defending on Hamada brakethrough I’ll be honest that felt scary hearing all of them shooting at the same time
Mg42 is the best mg ever build with good aim good settings and recoil in the game u can laser enemeys over 75 meters 6 bullet burst on the chest is a save kill on xbox i had rounds with 90+ kills its to funny
It's just a shame that the MG42 is relegated to a prone corner camper weapon now. In Bad Company 2, in its MG3 form, it was absolute blast to use but wasn't even close to being overpowered. I really miss the way Dice used to balance MGs.
You can’t use MMGs successfully if you’re camping. You have to be defending a objective or choke point or pushing an objective to be successful with them. They’re great on modes like breakthrough and rush, but terrible on modes like conquest. That being said I’d rather have MMG gunners on my team rather then snipers literally sitting back at spawn getting like 1 kill every 4 minutes, while someone who uses an MMG “properly” halts a push or chews through people holding a flag. I’d recommend giving the MMGs a try on breakthrough and using them strategically, rather then going prone in random areas. I dreaded the change to MGs when this game came out but once I learned how to use them effectively and make them useful, I appreciated them.
Well to be honest the actual MG42 weighs about 26 pounds unloaded. Meaning it's essentially "a prone corner camper weapon" by default. Although in-game you're able to flawlessly pole vault over ledges, while carrying 50-60 pounds of gear. lol What also helped the older games was that they were slower and jerkier, with lower resolution and bandwidth speed. That in itself kind of balanced out the game play a bit. In addition to hit-scan ballistics and the less obsessive player base. There was binge players then, although not in the numbers we see today, 10 years after Bad Company 2 released.
Kevin Smithwick imo the term camper in regards to Battlefield only applies to someone who isn’t playing the objective and is sitting in one spot. If you are playing the objective, you aren’t camping. That’s just my opinion. I think the MMGs are fine where they are. If someone knows how to use them they are going to reek havoc. If someone decides to sit in the middle of no where, not even close to the objective, they are going to suffer poorly.
If you do the math the Mg 42 (with the light bolt) fires at 20 rounds PER SECOND and it takes 5-7 to kill you should be able to kill an enemy in under a second
The only balancing problem of this is that the Extended Belt gives it 250 rounds, a stupidly high number of rounds to accompany its blazing fast rate of fire.
Belgian Rattlesnake they could have made it historically accurate. 1,200 rmp base and 1,500 upgraded and 75 base rounds with a round drum or a 300 round belt. In game its so inaccurate it's laughable compared to its irl counterpart. Its not that bad in game tbh. Most players using these are kinda bad lol
@@Duke-3508 Where are you getting figures from? The 75 round saddle drum is from the MG34 and the 300 round belt you mentioned didn't exist. MG42s were issued 50 round drums in the infantry role and 250 round belts when mounted on the Lafette 42 tripod. Also the 1,500 RPM figure comes MG42s, when configured in an AA role. That requires using a light-weight bolt, which is more prone to cracking.
MG3 is basically a converted Mg42s or m53s, rebarreled for 308 win (7.62x51). In fact, a topical solider in the field could do the conversion themselves with minimal tools.
The mg42s newer counterpart is the mg3 witch has a slower fire rate but being lighter you can aim down its sights and move around easier. The mg3 also has improved cooling a Chrome lined barrel as well as a better bipod. It also fires a smaller bullet witch makes it lighter and a more accurate machine gun. The mg3 also can attach a belt magazine for increased capacity. The mg3 also has a quick change barrel if it does over heat.
This used to be great weapon at launch but after multiple nerfs happened M1922 is superior in comparison. Very underrated MMG, so much more accurate than MG42 but has a similar TTK.
I’ve mastered all of the MMGs and they all have their roles, but the M1922 takes the cake for the best MMG. It has one of the best time to kills and has some of the lowest recoil. The MG42 excels in closer ranges and the M1919a6 is the best ranged MMG. VGO is a middle ground between the MG34 and 42. And the S2-200 would be the best MMG in the game had it have a higher ammo capacity rather then being limited to a 30 round magazine. The MG34 is probably the most bland out of all the MMGs from my experience but is still a great gun to use regardless.
Fun fact: if i remember correctly, the reason the mg 34 and 42 have the charging handle pulled first instead of last in some other games. is that in real life, pulling the charging handle first, resets the recoil spring, and re-alines the "Ammo track" with the bolt where the gun can be fed ammuntion properly.
I don't use it in a corner, but I do use it. Some advice for dealing with people like me, snipers are our main weakness, since we have to mount up on a wall or lay down. As for corner campers, I cant say much aside from the PIAT or Frag Launcher
Fun fact the original 1200rpm fire rate of the mg42 was actually so high the gun ended up firing out of battery when firing for extended periods of times
According to the german army, this gun had one problem, it shot too fast for a machine gun, so fast infact that the mg42 needed to have the barrel replaced very often, the fire rate was a problem to germans as well, infact they had to reduce the fire rate.... The more you know
Actually the cause for a reduction in fire rate was due to the gun firing out of battery Ian from forgotten weapons says it during his video on the gun
I dont understand why dice decided not to give this gun its historical rmp of 1,200-1,500. Instead making it 981 -1,200. Maybe for gameplay but it bugs me still over a year later...

The reason the Germans still produced the more pricey Mg34, the barrel change. The mg42 requires access to the side of the action to change barrels, which is good enough for foot soliders but doesnt work for tanks, mg34 barrel change was better suited for tanks.
The mg42 wasn't used by tank groups because of its unique barrel switching method making it impossible to use inside a tank... This is why mg34s were used instead because of its also unique barrel exchanging method.
Yeah light bolt will eat through ammo but when you are a support class which if played logically will have the ammo crate equipped you get unlimited refills on ammo no matter what that's why in bf4 so many people use carbines and marksman rifles with long scopes on support class because they can have unlimited ammo essentially but have a gun that can put out more damage but have a faster reload
