- The United Nations' aid chief has urged the international community not to ignore the devastating drought and hunger crisis facing east Africa.
Martin Griffiths of the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said the world has not been paying enough attention to crises beyond the war in Ukraine.
Twenty million people in the region are at risk of severe hunger, according to the UN.
Ethiopia is facing the country's worst drought in half a century, while 40 per cent of Somalia's population is facing food insecurity.

I'm over60. The entire world hasn't fixed this same problem since I was little and being told to be grateful for the food in front of me because there were starving children in Africa. Stop talking. Y'all should have already done something about in 6 decades.
The average amount of kids that women in African countries have is ridiculous, just look at the stats. Spend the money on educating the women, to lower their fertility rate or this problem will get worse.

Every 10 years this same region is in a drought, no local nation or people plan for it, and they all starve. If they keep asking for aid and can't rule themselves correcly every time, maybe it would be simpler to make them a protectorate again.
It is not that simple, droughts have increased because of global warming making water more scarce in the region. Since global warming is everyone's responsibility (since all nations have contributed to it) we are also responsible.

I looked at the situation in my home area in Laikipia and I could not believe whats happening. This drought will leave many dead considering that the government is doing little to help people. Most people have lost all their livestock leaving them hopeless, and some are opting to commit suicide
As german farmer you have to use a part of your fields for bees and nature purposes. It is not allowed to use these fields for growing food. The UN says there are 690 Mio. people with to less food and they are hungry. Number is increasing. The European Community alows to use these bee fields for growing food. But our german farming Minister Mr. Özdemir declines this very hard. The german farmers can't understand this attitude. I'm a german farmer. I'm so sorry, it is a big shame for me.

For example in this case it is caused by a drought, which is partially influenced by global warming, and, though it should not need explaining, droughts are more common in hotter places.

Yes your correct digging wells, I think Israel before experience a long month of drought but their government find ways about digging wells until they capture part if the dessert that much water until they apply advancement of technology on how to preserved water during dry season and that's it the dessert before now its gonna be a forest that would holds the water into flushing to the sea, so I think its government take q solution before its gonna too late

I think it would be great if the United States and the United Nations could coordinate the donation of well-digging equipment to the East African nations affected by chronic drought conditions. Additionally, I think it would be wonderful if we could dedicate resources to stationing engineers and geologists in these countries to teach their local counterparts how to find the best locations along the water table to dig wells and construct cisterns, water towers, and plumbing systems to store and distribute the water effectively.
Yes, this would be a major endeavor, complicated from a logistical and financial perspective. But the payoff, of helping people to become drought resistant and ensure the survival of communities as climate change continues to affect weather patterns, will be beneficial to humanity for generations to come. I think that this would be a wise investment for the United States and any other nation interested in preserving human life and habitat.
