We had a Corvair for a little while. My Dad liked it. Good gas mileage. But they used to blow the belts like weekly. He got real good at swapping and remounting the belts. I remember them being real roomy. All those cars from that time frame rusted out. Especially the Datsuns and the Fords. But I lost my beloved Chevette to rust (and emissions). Great video.

Thanks, T-Joe! We had a '65 Corvair when I was a kid that had the same issue with the belts. But then my dad drove everything like he was racing at Daytona, so something was broke all the time. He broke a lot of stuff! 😆

Vegas were cool rides. Especially when ya dropped a 350 in them...
I did that wit two of them. The first was pretty much a flop. It was a rust bucket, but the 2nd one was a much better body and MAN~OH~MAN did that sucka fly. You couldn't keep it going straight if you launched it with the pedal to the metal and dumped the clutch. Just a standard 350 with a small cam shaft, a Holly 650 4bbl carb and a set of headers. It was a fun and quick little shit...LOL...
I kept blowing clutches and finally bought a damn good Centerforce clutch, kit. It came with a heavy duty pressure plate and throw out bearing. Then I started blowing rear ends and breaking motor mounts....

A Vega rust bucket!?! Say it ain't so!!! 😆 I've never owned a Vega personally, but I had a couple of friends who did, and they were ok little cars for the most part. One of them, a '74 GT that was bronze with white stripes and a white interior, I tried to buy from the owner for months, but he wouldn't sell. He ragged on the thing for a couple of months, blew the clutch, and dumped it on the towing company that picked it up.
Pissed me off, but back then, they were disposable, so...
Y'know, I haven't seen a Vega on the road in years. I know they're not extinct, but a good one is scarce!
There was a time in the mid-80s when my favorite local junk yard had a baker's dozen of them lined up, waiting for the mobile crusher to come and flatten them. They'd yank the motor and trans, drain the tanks, and put it in line.
They didn't bother with removing anything else; nobody was buying parts for them, so they went bye-bye.
      Kinda sad.
But every car maker had their issues back then, so they weren't the only thing lined up for the crusher!
