Just started racing SRF's 3 years ago. I'm 56 years old (started late) and really love the racing fun. This video was a great learning vid for me. Great video, great race, and THANKS!
Great footage, great video! So many opportunities to pass though. As soon as someone else's brake lights are on I would touch it a bit more, get in front, cut back and hit my own brakes for the turn. Heart of a Lion is what wins. Thank you for sharing this. I love it!
The nice part about being so loose through the carousel is the great confidence you must have for the kink....;-) Excellent job. Broken right rear shock and you still finished well.
I too LOVE this video. The thought bubbles really do make the difference between watching just part of it vs all of it. The SRF is my fav car in iRacing atm and I am SO glad, watching this, that I'm racing it virtually. You're at the edge all race! With real walls to ram into! If you're going to make more videos though, how about centering that camera - and maybe lowering it - and squeezing the rear facing shot in dead center of the video. Kind of like a the virtual mirrors in iRacing. Thanks!!!
@zo Thanks! Regarding the rollbar mounted camera... a) you're right, there is that danger, b) the rear facing camera was on the rollbar in a roll over believe it or not, cost me 10$ to have it rewired - same camera still running!, c) if I end up rolling over (very unlikely fortunately), I've got much bigger problems than a $200 camera. :) Glad you like the thought bubbles. That was an afterthought. I'll stick with it as I post new vids as it seems to be popular.
That's excellent. They definitely look like cornering and braking cars, and they do a damn good job. Last I was there I was going through the kink quite fast and multiple people told me I should not be braking before it as I was doing, but turns out I was reaching higher speeds entering it than they were so had to revert. Great track though, hoping to make it back this year.
It's a spec class with a spec tire (a hard compound Goodyear). The handling issue was due to a broken right rear shock that I discovered after the weekend. It was stuck on full stiff rebound. You are correct... she was an ill-handling lady that day. :)
Yep, it's a great track to race on. We hit in the mid 120's a couple of times there (these cars are designed for cornering and braking more than for top end speed but that's about to change ;) ...). The Carousel leads to the Kink which takes you down to Canada corner. The Kink is the challenge for most cars.
Superb vid ! Loved the thought bubbles - blowing by a Gulf GT40 made me lol, and that truck really WAS damn close to the outside of the carousel - whatever happened to yellow flags? After you commented that your brakes felt soft I was a bit concerned, but I assume they were getting a bit hot from braking in the slipstream, so they'd cool down when you had all that extra air resistance with no-one in front. Have u tried the iRacing (PC sim) SRF? I have a league race there @Rd America on Sun
I am not a big car racing aficionado, but after watching another one of your videos I subscribed and have watched others since then. I just love sitting in the drivers seat of one of those races. I think you are really an excellent driver. I would have piled it up somewhere in the first lap. Anyway, about your cars, what kind of engine do you have. Are they V8's or 6's or just what is under the hood. Thanks for putting these up.
Skydiver thanks! Pre-2016 videos are the older engine which is a 1.9l Ford 4 cyl. Newer (way better sounding) videos are the 1.6l Ford Sigma engine. 35% more power and 100lbs less weight. Thanks for watching!!
was looking at your two gauge you have in the car, and I dont know whats what, but the one on the right, was all the way, the needle I mean to the far left, hope that wasnt your fuel gauge.....
I can't understand why the 72 car didn't try to pull alongside at 27:20. Was he hoping the two of you could pull away together and leave the others behind. It just looked like he was setting himself up to lose places... p.s. love the video. Shame you can't really do 'love taps' in iRacing :D
How do you put the thought bubbles in? As I said in an earlier comment they really add to the enjoyment of watching your race. I use Windows Movie Movie and, while it seems pretty good, I don't see a way of adding them. I do know how to put text between cuts, or on top of them, but thought bubbles would be so much better.
Update: I found a lock-down stiff (broken, locked on full stiff rebound) right rear shock after this weekend. It may well have been part (or most) of the handling problem.
Love this track. How fast are you guys going? I was there racing a viper acrx last summer and I hated that carousel launch through to canada turn. Hope I got the names right lol.
Seems that you have to run a pretty hard compound tire, or was your setup out of wack? Are you limited on tire compound choice? I would prefer a much tighter setup/tire... you mentioned the handling early in the clip, what was the remedy?

Thank you for sharing this. I love it!
Denny is a smooth clean driver with unmatched finesse ,reminds me of Argentinian formula one champion Carlos Reutemann. Exquisite car control.
Couldn't believe that truck was right there coming out of a fast turn, 11th place but a lot of fun, Thanks for the spin!
Sweet opposite lock at 5:20. Good catch and awesome job sticking with it.

For twice the fun, set Playback to 2x!
This is awesome! You are very brave on the corner entry. Please keep posting your races!
Great video! Thanks for posting. I sure miss watching CART tear this track up back in the day.
Awesome race. so many love taps and close racing. I could watch this all day.

Damn you are good! Those drifts are pretty nail biting stuff!
No, they are 1.9L Fords from the early 90's Escort GT that were sent to Roush for a little touch up and full engine management.

Just curious are all these cars required to have that one brakelight positioned on that small roll bar behind the driver's head??????
Man...what can I say ? LOVE IT !!!
Your freaking good on the brakes
how he is able to decelerate from 100 plus mph so quickly without skidding ?
Update: I found a lock-down stiff (broken, locked on full stiff rebound) right rear shock after this weekend. It may well have been part (or most) of the handling problem.

Great music while driving, it's a musical instrument called (machine)
