Good analysis overall but I'm going to have to disagree with you on where Vesteinn teaches his athletes to drive. Neither Simon nor Daniel drive left sector. Attempting to drive left sector is only going to contribute to a huge diversion of forces at the front (i.e. you'll go left, the discus has to come around back right). Vesteinn teaches a very rotational approach to throwing, you drive right sector line and land towards the center to throw the discus. This is very later on on Gerds career whereas when he was throwing 70m plus, it was a lot easier to see that he didn't drive left sector.
Yes, Vesteinn supports straight drive down middle of circle and avoids left side of circle (for a right handed thrower) He describes it as "not falling off the cliff" to avoid falling off the cliff stay down center (middle) of circle. Also, use left arm to to guide (or prevent) from moving to the left side of circle.
