Hi Five performing 'She's Playing Hard to Get' on Arsenio featuring 4 Ya Pleasure, DC's first all-female go-go band backing them up. RIP Tony Thompson!
@@1trudivaI think a few days or weeks before this, they experienced death within the group or something like that. It could've been accident or something. I can't remember. Probably was easier to sing lip sync.
I knew Tony and the whole group! Know the whole family and they are all good people..went to school with Tonys sister's and just great people..very talented..r.i.p. Tony
oh yes he did have a gift, a very special one..not only was this a good peformance, but look at the stength and courage they all had in this performance considering pooh had just got into that bad accident
Tony was just beautiful, I wish he had the right people in his life to guide him. If it was me, i would have gone to hell and back to keep him away from drugs.
Just to let y'all know...they sung this song live...Tony never lipsinged..he was a true singer...he reminds me of Ralph Tresphant, Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, and Luther Vandross...he was multitalented and I miss him
Okay when they broke out in that dance---that was HOT! I'm trying my BEST not to cry through their songs and it's not easy. They were so GENUINE! It's SO SAD that one of their members is no longer here with us today. Boys to Men got their style from them and I'm so grateful that they did. There are VERY few groups that dress in unison and sing in unison today. We were and are so BLESSED to have lived, witnessed and experienced moments with groups such as this one...
Hi-Five is like the definition of UNSUNG personified. They really were a very talented group of vocalists! Tony T. had such a pure voice! It's kind of unfortunate they sort of got lost in the shuffle with the onslaught of so many guy/girl groups burning up the charts in the early to mid 90s. Even though their career wasn't very long, they definitely made an impact that's still rippling with fans to this day. #RestWellTony.WeMissU Thanks for positng!!
Look at my play cousins tearin' it up. I loved Hi-Five. I had every cd and cassette they've ever made. This song used to get my cousin and I dancin' a hole into the floor. Their little church suits were cute. Brothas needs to start singing like this again. R.I.P. Tony.
This is so sad, this brings back happy teenage memories. But my heart goes out to Tony Thompson(he looks unhappy in the video) and the rest of the group members that tragedy has struck. My heart and prays goes out to the remaining members (another one bites from the industry) But thanks for the memories Hi-Five forever
that was also nice how they backed him up cuz he looked so nervous, treston did realllly good and they was gettting it. this is deff going into my favorites!!!
Two groups of people that I miss these days, Arsenio Hall and High Five. High Five was so good back then, them dudes could really sing! And, the Arsenio Hall Show, that was the late show of all late shows then. Unfortunately, time has a way of undoing a thing, breaking it down into nothing. Still, they were great in their day:)
Thanks for this post! I miss that dude so much. There will never be another Tony Thompson. May he rest in peace. "Tomorrow may never come... For all we know." - Donny Hathaway/Tony T.
Damn I miss the Arsenio Hall Show and real R & B music that domninated the airwaves during this era. I miss Hi Five, NE, Guy, Soul For Real, SWV,Jodeci, and real R & B. Damn this T Pain shit
I wouldn't say its rare. Off the top of my head Michael Jackson, Ralph Tresvant (New Edition), Marques Houston (Immature) and Omarion (B2K) all had very good voices.
tony has influenced me soooo much. i remember singing his song and asking somebody 'don't i sound like tony'? that suit jacket was way too big for him back then. rip tony you are NOT FORGOTTEN.
Ah!! That old formula for success... good real singing, good choreography, dressing alike so you at least look like a group and not waiting for a solo contract to come along
This performance was right after Roderick 'Pooh' Clark (RIP) was left paralyzed in an auto accident on the freeway while the group was on an East Coast promotional tour for their album. Also, Tony Thompson (RIP) and Treston Irby switched jackets before going on stage thus the reason why Tony's jacket is very oversized and Treston's jacket is a little tight. Tony liked the look, feel better of Treston's bigger sized jacket thus the switch. As well as, Russell Neal was going to quit the group but Pooh's accident is what made him come back with the group and finish out the tour, tv appearances and the like.
Tony had the potential to be one of the very best r&b vocalists of all time. His voice was pure and it had range. Sad how his life took a tragic turn for the worst.
There will NEVER be another voice like Tony Thompson. R I P
Facts!!!!💯
Tony sung this LIVE and sounded just like the studio version, his voice was AMAZING!
I think he sounded better than in the studio version!
They’re lip syncing
They may be lip singing BUT…..Tony can really sing LIVE …and sound just like the album or even better.
@@1trudivaI think a few days or weeks before this, they experienced death within the group or something like that. It could've been accident or something. I can't remember. Probably was easier to sing lip sync.
@@tymartin2293 Tony is singing live and The background vocals are lipped. Tony always sung his parts live!
Tony could transition from low to high notes so easily.
I knew Tony and the whole group! Know the whole family and they are all good people..went to school with Tonys sister's and just great people..very talented..r.i.p. Tony
What a gift Tony Thompson had! He sings effortlessly and his sound is so damn beautiful!
oh yes he did have a gift, a very special one..not only was this a good peformance, but look at the stength and courage they all had in this performance considering pooh had just got into that bad accident
Tony Thompson could blow, I miss these dudes 90's was HARD.

Tony was the force behind Hi Five. His voice was just magic. He is missed, gone too soon!
Tony and Dino from HTown had the best voices around from that time. Both had tragic endings. RIH Tony and Dino.

Tony did his thing!! His voice was unreal and so incredible!!! RIP TT

When music was fun Never forget this group
tony sounded so good Live.... he was such a talented person.
These guys were realy legit. They had great vocals, the harmony was tight, and Tony was one of the best live singers.
They don't even make late night shows as good as the 90's. The Arsenio Hall Show music performances were always 🔥!!!
Those suits were massive!!
Tony Thompson solo album is excellent
Happy Birthday TT..He would have been 39
OMG i loved these boys, I had the biggest crush on Tony, love his voice RIP
They were really good live. I miss them.
R.I.P. Tony Thompson 🙏🏾😢😢

Engelbert Delrosario 😂😂
That was the style
Trenton and Tony swapped jackets on accident lol
Steven Harvey store lol
@@natefrmbklyn Right. That was the style back in the 90's. All the Male groups were dressed like that.

Tony thompson was a really good singer. Its rare that a lead singer of a boy band could actually sing
I wouldn't say its rare. Off the top of my head Michael Jackson, Ralph Tresvant (New Edition), Marques Houston (Immature) and Omarion (B2K) all had very good voices.
