- As Hurricane Ida made landfall at Port Fourchon, Louisiana, New Orleans' mayor and other top emergency officials warned residents to stay home and hunker down. "There's nobody coming right now," said Collin Arnold, New Orleans' top emergency official. Watch the news conference.

Sorry to interject facts here but the evidence says otherwise. Google "US hurricane history" and look at the charts of hurricane sizes and frequency. US hurricanes have actually been very low over the last 20 years or so.
Stay safe Louisiana! I live on the gulf coast and we've all been terrified of this storm. We still have damage to our home from Sally. Spent the last week preparing. I hope those getting hit have what they need. Stay calm and stay safe.

This storm is a monster, be careful everyone. Though I would say climate change is definitely playing a role here by making water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico above average.

New Orleans Louisiana may be better prepared than they were for Hurricane Katrina. But the bottom line is it only takes one small section of the levy to fail to invite disaster destruction into land. Even if the Levee system does miraculously by some miracle hold. There is still the high winds in excess of 100 miles an hour and the total loss of power. Anyone that lives in New Orleans or even Louisiana should have a evacuated way before the hurricane approached anytime you have a category 4. Is enough reason in itself to evacuate. Unfortunately now it's too late for many by evacuating now would only add to the chaos. I still can't get over how many people refuse to leave especially after suffering through Hurricane Katrina or at least having the knowledge of Hurricane Katrina you think people would have been more responsible in their actions.

The neighborhood I grew up in had most of the ground water and natural gas pumped out it by the oil industry throughout the early and middle part of the 20th century.. And consequently, the ground sunk.. Our front yard was 8 feet below the road, which had constantly been rebuilt and raise to it’s original height.. Hurricane Alicia’s 14 foot storm surge finally knocked it out for good, in the summer of 1983..
Trust me when I tell you this, if you live in a bowl, there’s a good chance one day you’re gonna drown..
