The reason is: larger area. In 501 all of the Bulls eye is 50 points. so it is easier to hit the bull than the triple 20 and you only lose 10 points per dart.
I think she'd be a bit better if she didn't hit herself in the face every time she takes a throw, speaking from personal experience, it's very off-putting.
