- Every Thomas fan at some point creates their own AU or take on events.
I've done this for awhile myself, but only recently started the modeling process for it. Today we learn about the first engine I've done for such, Thomas!

Although I never minded that Thomas was older than a lot of the big engines in the Railway Series, I think in this AU it probably works out better that Thomas was built in the 40s.
For me personally it’s always made more sense; but could understand the canonical reasons for why he is haha! It’s just not my preference myself 🤣
Idea: Instead of a full escape, the BSC crew actually facilitates Thomas going to Sodor, because they came to regard Thomas as an employee, not an owned object.
Now that’s an idea I can get behind 👀

I know what you mean about “personal universes”,
When I was about 10/11, I lived in Texas. When Id have my Tomy Thomas trains set up, I’d pretend it was a short line in Texas that bought engines from the UK second hand.
my personal AU for Thomas is quite similar, with Thomas being an odd 11th build E2 class stationed at Littleton, though he did not see much use, that changed when Sir Charles went to the seaside town on vacation and purchased the unique little engine.
sidenote; in my AU Sir Charles is a bit of a collector, hence why 7/8 of his first 8 engines have some feature separating them from the rest of their class.

Always love coming back to train boy. Anyways you should definitely do a long term project of doing the the island of Sodor but at that scale don’t have to put down every detail but keep the iconic parts (if you ever do it):)

Awesome. Love the back story and your take on Thomas. As a fellow modeler, its neat seeing alternative takes and free-lance modeling done by others in the train community. Thomas community and those of model prototype locomotives in real life and in history.

See I always thought I guess in my own mind was that after the grouping of the railways that Thomas was an excess engine and was sold to the Island of Sodor and up to that point had only been a shunter. Which is why he's so inexperienced in anything else but shunting when he comes to the Island and is cock sure of himself in what he does. Obviously it's my own head canon but I always thought it made a bit more sense then him help building and even working on the railways before most of the other engines came to the Island.
Interesting AU for Thomas. I do like how you tied in the history of the real Thomas (Hudswell Clarke 1800) before he went to the Nene Valley Railway and then renamed Thomas.

Personally, for my preferences, I tend to go Awdry cannon supersedes all, with other engines and elements fitted in where I can, although I don't mind messing with the prototypical basis of Thomas, Edward, James, and Percy, because their basis aren't integral to their stories, and they were all decided on after the fact to explain the illustrations rather than known from the start. As a bit of a purist, I disagree with your opinions on Awdry's origin for Thomas, but I can still appreciate your backstory.
Personally, I see no issue with the engines' emotional ages not matching their chronological ages, as they don't physically age the way humans do. Thomas was built before WW1 sure, but he buggered off to Sodor, far from any actual horrors of war, and then, after helping build the line, where Edward was probably doing all the responsible things and he was just helping out like a tag along kid, he stayed mainly in the shunting yard, where he could get away with his cheeky BS because it wasn't busy enough to require clockwork efficiency, and was outside of the public eye so he couldn't embarrass the railway. Nothing really forced him to grow up until the north western started getting bigger, and James's crash forced him to take on a role of responsibility, which was then furthered with his branch line. At least to me, that makes perfectly good sense. Gordon, on the other hand, was told from the moment of his construction that he was an important express engine, and he had to act like it. This both explains why he was never childish like Thomas, and also why he was so incredibly pompous at first. Edward would have already been wise by the start of the books, because he would have had some experience when he arrived on Sodor, and he would have done just about everything until the bigger engines showed up. He would have then been forced to come to terms with the fact that his value wasn't in strength or speed, but in experience and dedication, so his only choice was to lean into that, and become a mentor to other engines over the years. Thus, while not much older than Thomas, he would be much wiser because he was forced to learn the hard life lessons that Thomas wasn't.

An au of an au. Thomas doesn’t escape. But rather is kept like the original engine was, only an E2. Would later be given his name by The reverend.

Maybe there could be TWO Thomas-es in your N Scale canon; the first one, who works the Farquhar Branch, and the second, who was at first a big fan, and was eventually named by the Reverend, to pull tourist trains.

This is a nice different take on Thomas
My Au for Thomas. My Thomas was build in 1945 in Brighton and arived in sodor in 1946 after James in southern olive Green with number 70 and then how he got to Sodor starts the adventure begins. For my AU Thomas never met his only one brother Arthur keen but, everyone of you will say that Thomas is brother of Timothy the ghost Engine but that is now how it is in my AU. Timothy the gost Engine is in my AU LNER J50 and he had Blue Lining and boiler bands with Lettering LNER and number 0 in 1927 when the viaduct between Welsworth and Crosby being repaired Timothy it's not became evil his breaks failed and he plunged him self into river under still in repairs viaduct and that is why sodor needed another tank engine. For my AU Thomas is based on Arthur keen locomotive but with little longer bunker, wheel splasher, extended side tanks and second window to look like From the show . And that is my AU for my Thomas
I think to look like the H&C engine, you should paint the wheels red!

Also I kinda like the idea that Thomas has wizened up. It matches his sensible character upto season 5 (then season 6 kinda toned it down and season 7 just went back to cheeky mode).
😭😭 SEE I wanted to make it to where during that time Thomas escapes to Sodor since it was written that he found there during the first world war; but I felt as if being built in a time like that may give him a bit more substance besides the cheek. (AND automatically make him younger than Gordon and many others 🤣)
Of course he’s gotta be that cheeky bugger we all love, but perhaps maybe a bit more dynamic and drab since he not only works at a SUGAR corp but..

Oddly similar to my cannons (Basically Thomas mixed with Harry Potter in that magic actually makes it possible for the engines to be sentient and alive) cept my group of engines (some obscure engines but always a few of the class or at least an engine built to resemble them at at least one fictional Baldwin class) but I have a few engines that work a steel works down in Wales (one big heavy engine (would probably be bigger than Arthur with more drive wheels and smaller drive wheels) two rather cheeky hudswell 0-6-0 contractors engines (basically Bill and Ben mixed slightly with Duncan and sit handler respectively) and a rebuilt contractors box tank (originally the same class as the other two) for increased fuel capacity) and that’s just for the steel works really

I think it was revealed in one of the Talyllyn Railway lectures that Gordon was built in 1920, not 1922

@@Kukaak Thanks but in my au Gordon is built in November 1922 an A3 and all that. But the reason for his differences to other A3s is because Geresly wanted to try some modifications on Great Northern who is the 1st A1 not Gordon. So the mods proved successful and Gordon got the changes. And got sent to the NWR in April 1923.
They need to make a model hero from Thomas and Friends that will be really cool
The blue engine wanted to see the world, but nobody cared about his dreams. Because he's just an E2. He's not a celebrity. He's just really useful......but that's not what one man thought.
Don't have an AU yet, so much a an Alternate Setting. Keep tinkering with the idea of an American Railroad based mostly in the Colorado Territory.

I’ve considered it but don’t plan to, the engine I’ve based him on never had any and like the 1 I feel as if that’d look a little strange being the only thing on the side myself.
