  • My team and I are so excited to share the progress of our huge permaculture project, which we started 12 months ago! It has been very much a year of getting lots of hard work done, and we are so pleased with how much has changed already! I am delighted to use this video to introduce my incredible team and this exciting space, and we cannot wait for the second season here at Dan Yr Onnen, which we are calling 'Project Beautify'!

My husband & I bought a 9 acre property 18 months ago. It had grass feed cattle for 30 years. The convention to farm is a labor of love. Yesterday we got 2 acres of restorative cover crops of oat, wheat and quinoa planted. My house has seed trays everywhere. I have never been so exhausted, excited and joyful. Our neighbors deliver free poo and cheer our efforts. Local grocery stores support us with free organic produce scraps. We planted the roadside fields in bee and bird friendly flowers last year, beautiful start and got neighbors interested. I put 'in search of' ads in local neighborhood groups so it hasn't cost us much to get equipment. I encourage anyone who wants to garden or farm to get their hands in the soil, it feeds your body and soul.

I have been an armchair permaculturist for 20 years and always had a niggling doubt that it is not so easy in the UK. I know it is a set of principles which can adapt, but in a small gardening Kent, with a busy life, I just lose so much to slugs and snails. Watching Hugh with his last garden and now seeing this it is so impressive. Adding community to the formula is such a big and important step and all the younger people involved in this will be touched forever. We need one of these projects in every village and several in every town.

Do you have space for at least 2 ducks? If you walk those early morning and late afternoon (when the snails and slugs are out and about) they will eat them for you and convert that protein into eggies for you, just don’t let them roam free or they will destroy your garden faster than the slugs ever could.. also if you start of with them it can take 1 or 2 weeks before they really go to work, in the beginning they might be more anxious because you’re behind them, then they mellow out and start seeing all the food around them, when they go for your produce it’s time to push em on a bit.. hope that helps..

      Not even close:
“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place. “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.””

IMO obtaining a piece of land is the only barrier to permaculture.
There's tons of very inexpensive or free ways to get plants and tools to do the work and get things growing.
To get it done fast takes more expensive tools and expensive plant purchases.
But, if one can give the time and patience, the sky is the limit once the piece of land is acquired.
