Some of the video gotten wrong name of the sea near Korea peninsula... it is historically 'East sea' correct and (Sea of Japan secondly) . Japan has invested much to change this name as the way they want globally... and lots of things bought it and showed it now wrong as Sea of Japan... which is totally wrong historically... hope you see it right, know it, and correct your subtitles ...name...your video has been great btw
Very interesting. My Grandad fought there so I went in Sept 2022 for a look around and saw all the things you did. I actually saw a NK farmer through a telescope and learned about the daft flag pole stuff, had my passport checked by military, had a rough wanker down the tunnel (you are right, proper effort getting down there). Good video.
What I appreciate most about your videos is you show things like it really is and Julia your emotions are an open book. I could feel your heartache at looking across into North Korea. Thanks for keeping it real and for showing the truth.
Great job covering a complex and existential issue in a travel vlog format. I've lived in South Korea as an English instructor, and also have had the chance to personally visit North Korea. Well done!
For many of us in America, the Korean War was just the backdrop to the TV show MASH, which was in constant reruns as a kid. My great uncle served during the Korean War and fell in love with the country and spoke of it fondly. I’ve also been fortunate to work with a number of Koreans. A beautiful culture and people. I think you wonderfully captured the beauty and friendliness of a people who must live constantly on guard with eyes fixed north. The contrast between the DMZ and Donghae was so interesting to see. It was also interesting to see how touristy some parts of the DMZ are. Would not have guessed that.
As a military dependent I was born in Japan. As a 26 yr military veteran I spent 6 military years in Korea and 1 yr as a civilian in Korea. I went to all these places and more. South Korea is a beautiful place with VERY NICE PEOPLE! I still have friends there. My family and I have great memories of South Korea and really miss it.❤❤❤❤
I am so glad I discovered your videos recently. This one was especially intelligent and interesting - great introduction to the history of the past 80 years Matt and so sad that 3m died so unnecessarily in the war. Looking forward to your next episode!
Another amazing video from the three of you. It`s strange how the more you learn, the more you find out how little you know. Korea an amazing place...Thank you Xx
Thank you, guys, for that fascinating video! Thanks for showing us what you could of the DMZ area. So interesting but sad. Julia, you are too cute! I’m with you on how that all makes one so sad. My family had relatives behind the Iron Curtain of East Germany so I understand the sadness. I’ve often thought about how life would be so much simpler because it is all within our control. I, too, love the wilder coastal areas. Keep the fun coming!
Just want to say, I really really am grateful for all you guys uploads and all your hard work. They are very very appreciated. Keep loving each other and thanks you again for all the great work that you are both doing. Hope you keep on going with it. But only do it if its working for you both. Anyhow, just want to say thanks. P.S thanks for being real and honest people. That goes a long way, nowadays. All the best.
I'm lucky to have done 2 trips to the border now - I went on your trip in July 22 and the 2nd tunnel last month (March 24). Yours is the better trip as you're actually in the DMZ and closer to North Korea itself. Great vlog - many thanks! 🌸 🇰🇵🇰🇷
Really interesting to see your visit to the DMZ. I have never been to South Korea, but visited North Korea in November 2018. The DMZ and Kaesong was the first day trip. Our guide interestingly said she found visiting the DMZ from the north side much more relaxed than from Seoul. Kaesong is a beautiful city that feels like the heart beat of the Korean nation. I found the thought of 70+ years of total division heart wrenching. There is so little motor traffic outside of Pyongyang, and when the Covid lockdown came and I had an essential journey through my work, I immediately thought of usual service in the DPRK!
@5:25 When dicussing the third tunnel you filmed a sign with the words '통일로'. '통일' means reunification and '로' is road. Just though I'd let you guys know. Great video.
Again an amazing video. Your presentation and insight are wonderful. As someone else stated how little we do not know. Thank you for sharing and taking us with you on your travels. ❤
That’s so cool. It was like that at market in Crete Greece. I wanted three of something - they said - kilos- no just three items - and they gave it to me . The little things in life are so sweet….
This is nostalgic and emotional coming from a filipino American 🇺🇸 I was stationed there back in the day and I’m not Korean I feel their pain and sadness
Really great video, so interesting and well filmed. We didn't know about the tunnels between the two and find it so unbelievably sad that this situation exists. Incidentally, the same thing happened to me with the seagulls in Brighton, I got completely mugged. Many thanks as always and keep safe guys 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to you both for bringing this to us. Thanks for your perspectives also. Yes, it is sad. It reminds me of Pakistan and Bangladesh. It's so important that we see this, even if it is through your eyes and not directly through our own. You are doing us all a great service. 🙏🙏🙏
Julia, you made the right decision not going down into the tunnel. I went down and it felt so claustrophobic. Luckily we had to wear hard hats because I smacked my head on the ceiling a few times... but I wasn't the only one 😅
the 2nd most powerful person in North Korea is the Supreme Leader's sister Kim Yo Jong who is his most trusted adviser. FYI...both Yo Jong and Jung Un went to boarding school under assumed names in Switzerland in the late 1990s
You're right Julia.., power and greed cause all of this misery in the world.. 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.'
I can’t even start to imagine what those people in the north and the south feel, who have family that are separated for all those years. It must be so hurtful not to be able to even communicate.
OMG. the place you visit first in donghae is hansum beach. The beach is not famous tnat much, and that is my gotoplace when i feel like crying . the second place you went by barrier fence is gobulgae beach. I love tese places because its not bustling and small pretty cozy ones Its amazing how you know these good places I hope you make a lot of lovely memory in korea
Thank you so much for the history. I was 5 when the war ended and they didn't teach about it in school. I learned about it from MASH, lol. I really like Donghae and it's neighboring town, they seem so laid back and comfortable. Such beautiful scenery to enjoy then you just scratch your head and wonder why they can't solve their differences. I guess that's war and if anything I'd like to see it all turn to peace.❤
This is no different than Russia and Ukraine. Two systems, feet apart. This is the history of the world my friend. It is not something unusual. Communist style rulers and "democratic societies" have been living like this forever. And fighting, and will continue to fight.

Great video guys! How sad. I didn’t know all the details of the north and South Korea. Still silently at war. Soon once the older generation are no more all ties will be lost. 😟. I don’t think you’re naive Julia!! I’m right there with you!! Xx
You’re visiting some interesting places, the wall of china a few weeks ago now the Korean border with it’s history, good to see it now instead of in history documentaries ✌️❤️🇬🇧

Reminds me of Berlin, New Years Eve 1989. Standing on top of the wall that night at Brandenburg Gate. The unknown of what was beyond. Then the surreal moment around 1am people were breaching it (each way, and man we helped a lot of people up from the East side onto/over the wall). But before we left that night, we also hopped down into the East. The guards etc on patrol had all just cleared off. 'This is unexpected and nuts: How far do we dare going?'. Not so far, maybe a 30mins wander about, a few icy-cold hundred metres in/around, with eyes peeled. Wintery desolation. I watched M+Js fascinating vid here and it reminded me of that. And I thought, how might it be if one moment they had an hour when they could just wonder into the North and back, and how shocking might it be...
Great video, thank you! And it is called the East Sea, not Sea of Japan, as you’re making the next video. Thanks again and looking forward to your next video!

I love crab so much would have pleaded for buying it fresh from steamer and promptly sat down and dug in even without melted butter. When it comes to crab, I am an ugly american. Thanks for the tour my father was stationed in Korea the year before I was born. Never heard about it when was old enough to understand but think it affected him deeply

I was in SK this spring. The DMZ was surreal. So many questions.
Thanks for another informative vlog of Korea. You guys Rock!! 💜💜🇰🇷
Freedom is not free. Freedom requires eternal perseverance opposing the actions of those who would take it from you and subjugate you.
Thank you very much for a very informative video, you have really broadened my mind about North and South Korea. Thank you so much.🏴🇬🇧💐
So very interesting guys. Thank you
