How many Nazi's lurk in your neighborhood? I lookout for Nazis when I jog. I'm pretty sure the garden gnome down the street is a Nazi. He looks like he's waving but we know better... We know what he's doing!
This kid in the video actually asked Richard Spencer a question about Hegel, pretty good one too. Spencer was quite dismissive of him though after he cited Jeffery Tucker as good thinker. Gotta hand it to my libertarian bro for having the guts to risk being labeled a nazi for attending. Stay true man
Spencer did answer his question though. Jeffrey Tucker's position is that corporate Taco Bell is the steeple of Western Civilization. It's entirely acceptable to laugh at that level of autistic ridiculousness. Most of the prominent members of the alt-right are former Libertarians who have passed through the Libertarian phase.
For someone who grew up in Florida, the term "State of Emergency" doesn't raise my hackles. Most Floridians know from yearly hurricane seasons that a state of emergency is enacted to free up state-level resources. Maybe the term needs to be changed to something less threatening, like a "State of Resource Reallocation."
Seems like a good guy. Hope he gets to hear what's being said and doesn't get any grief from going there. A follow up interview with him would be interesting.
Buddy is a virtue signalling Leftist but not so far Left that he wants to see the event shut down...he will attend and decide if Spencer's arguments are worth the listen. I call this normal. I don't support Spencer nor his views (I'm a Libertarian) but I support his right to speak. I would likely attend the speech as well so I can legitimately take a position against his politics I don't agree with.
Tim, I've been with you since you started on YT! Never thought you'd be in my hometown! If I had known you were coming I would have made some fudge or brownies for you and the crew. I'm on the other side of town from you and I sure hope you have a great time while you're here. If have any trouble with food etc, call up Jack Strickland (on FB). We grew up together and he is Gator 🐊 fan for sure! Welcome to the home of Tom Petty (Heartbreakers) and Don Felder (Eagles)!
I watched several of Spencer's videos to gain some unspun insight into what he believes. I found most of it to be crap, but he does have a few valid arguments and stances.
This isn't good. I would rather live in a world where anyone can say anything without consequence, that is how you keep things peaceful. Words and ideas don't have much consequence, but violence and aggression does. It seems as though the mainstream thought at universities has lost maturity. This is not how adults react to words and ideas they don't like.
the student you spoke to seems to open to education from both sides, but he seemed paranoid and kept looking around to see who was watching him talk to you. It is a if he felt the watchers were looking and he was not allowed to give his own personal opinions.
Admin is playing a gambit. Allowing him to speak but doesn't want protesters to cause trouble. I don't think the plea for those not to go was directed to those that want to listen but for those to disrupt the speaker. I think the admin want a the same certacy for any speaker.
Heaven forbid we should hear ideas outside of our own viewpoint? It might threaten our worldview and potentially allow us to gain better perspective. A good way to gain a well rounded world view is to hear all sides and critically analyze to come to your own conclusions.
Spencer, at the speech yesterday (barely worthy of being called a formal speech) did not make many sound arguments, in fact many of his positions were unsubstantiated and relied on a fantasy-like Hegelian dialectic drawing from German idealism and actual racism. However, to give the devil his due, he outright said he did not need to make arguments against certain arguments which are opposed to ethno-nationalism, and he is quite funny in the twisted way that the Joker is in Batman. Spencer and company know that the constant chanting and screeching from the crowd played into their game of "look how oppressed white people are becoming." In opposition, I asked rational questions because I had a feeling he could not hold a sound argument against, which was confirmed by his lack of answers and his unsubstantiated allegiance to his right-Hegelian, Spengler based fantasy of white racial tribalistic divinely chosen identity. He did, however, make a few good points which should not be overlooked, nor should their origination be attributed to him. One of these is his, quite comedic, critique of American leisure culture which he made fun of by pointing out how "sportsball" sucks up so much of our time. Bread and circuses keep down social change, historically, but where truth differs from Spencer is that sportsball soaks up the energy of all races in American culture and is not specifically a coordinated detriment to white culture. This is where his ideology completely ignores the individual in exchange for supreme moral weight being on the collective, in his case the collective is the best aspects of the white race, which he mistakenly equates directly to culture. The second decent point he made is that the government has tremendous overreach, especially in the case of foreign policy. He made a very interesting point that none of my peers would rally so hard against the current government wars overseas which actually kill thousands of people as they would against him who is simply speaking. That was very telling of the atmosphere of the room, people talking at each other instead of to one another. War is awful, however there are more positions against the warmongering of both Left and Right which are not Alt-Right. Again Spencer ties the wars being bad to the death of white males and the spending of the tax dollars taken from white people, which is not the best opposition to war. In conclusion, Spencer is wrong on many things, yet we can draw away his supporters (of which there are barely any) by admitting that he makes good points in the form of opposition to war and admittance of the brain drain of "sportsball" without calling upon the false dichotomy of supporting the white race or being inferior. In order to do this, we must uphold the freedom of speech, even for idiots like Spencer. It is much easier to defeat intellectual enemies if they are held in the light and not forced into the darkness, for in the light our true colors are made known.
I watched the whole thing live. Spencer is NOT a Nazi and it's shitty of people to keep perpetuating that lie. Being a nationalist isn't a bad thing. Culture war beats race war every time.
Its a sad world, where the price for Free Speech involves paying police or Swat teams. Thanks to political violence being acceptable to these emotional man-children.

So who did? I'm guessing that there must be a group of University of Florida students openly supporting Spencer. But then I start wondering about the implications of that.
m mandrewa Cameron Padgett made the accommodations, and he does not attend UF or any school in Gainesville. No UF affiliated groups put in the request to rent the space.
Thanks Tommy Boyle. It seems kind of wrong to me. But I guess if they are going to be renting their venue, then they can't legally discriminate based on viewpoint.

The problem, as I see it, with the "punch a nazi" rhetoric is that there is no clear cut definition of who the nazi's are. Some on the left claim it to be members of the alt-right. Others claim that all conservatives are alt-right. And then people like me see the actions of some Antifa groups to be more in line with the nazi party than most neo-nazi's. So therefore, it seems to me that everyone is a nazi to someone with a differing opinion. So I guess everyone will be punching everyone.
How many tourism dollars does an Antifa vs Nazi showdown bring to a town hosting the event? If security is a sunk cost then you may as well invite as many people as possible.
I bet Spencer is tickled pink that he can cost a state thousands of dollars just by saying that he's showing up. Surely this won't backfire in 13 different ways.
all i can think is "anyone who doesnt think the i do is obvi-ously just a nazi" i think its very fair to call spencer a nazi but i also think we should make a distinction from white nationalist and a neonazi in the same way i do for liberal people with social justice warriors and progressives

Scott Robinson I have a Nazi in my bed, it's a body pillow, it's a Hitler body pillow. I call it mein Waifu.
What about the Russians? Don't forget that the Russians are colluding everywhere!
Scot Robinson, I tie my shoes in little Nazis.

Hoppe > Tucker

Simon Elof They are not comparable. Hoppe is a brilliant theorist. Tucker is an evangelist.

Prentice Darlington Thanks, I made it through unscathed, happy to answer questions
No specific questions, thank you. Glad to know you got through okay.
I really respect that that guy's willing to attend for the knowledge and to counter the arguments. Too rare these days
So basically they wasted 500K on nothing, and professors closed things down in a hysterical panic. Amazing.
nakrat11
Suckers.
Great interview! Thanks for the on the ground reporting.
The professors canceled all classes? And, the speech wasn't even scheduled during class time? WTF?? Is this a university or a grade school?
Tellthetruth n/a Daycare
They wanted their Commie students to have the day off to prepare for mayhem.
He seems like a decent level headed student.
nebulamask81 I appreciate it
Tim, I like your recent use of a two camera setup for interviews :) 👍

Philosophers represent! Also, Hegel, my condolences. ;)
Its troubling that their icon is a fist. Shows where they want to push things towards.
This is the one time Im happy to see an ad on a vid.
It's just ridiculous, let "whomever" speak and move on for goodness sakes..
that's just what a neonazi would say.
+joe van gogh No.you're just saying that that's what a neo-nazi would say. You don't actually know this to be the case....
accusing someone of being a nazi, who is accusing someone of being a nazi, is the most nazi thing to do..
Lol, I love how you turned around to include her in the video and she was just like: Nope
Wow you got an add on this one congratz! ;D
Hey Tim, do more videos explaining how the media work. This was great!
Smart guy, good chat.
I like this guy. This is the kind of fence sitting I can tolerate.
Brikkwall Thanks!

It's not a fence. It's a fucking pen.
9:58 Squirrel distracted me. lol
Hey, Emily's back!
Good job Tim this guy was worth listening to, but it was weird how he kept checking over his shoulder.
mark sperring Kept seeing friends of mine and armed patrol units sorry haha
I think it was more weird how he has talking with his hands
Great interview!
Yep. Paid agitators not even from there..
Thank Soros..
I don't know if I'm reading too much into this, but thought it was kinda telling how often the student kept looking over his shoulder.
That's my alma mater! Go Gators!!!
Something tells me AntiFa would stay home if it was a regular occurrence for them to return from these types of 'protests' in a pine box.
The only journalist in the culture wars that I trust. I'd like to hear more interviews with extremists from the left if possivle. Keep it up, Tim.
Richard Spencer is a meme
good job, interesting talk.
I watched several of Spencer's videos to gain some unspun insight into what he believes. I found most of it to be crap, but he does have a few valid arguments and stances.
If you let anybody who can string together grammatically correct sentences talk for long enough, they'll eventually come out with something agreeable.
*Slow claps* xd
Says the user who's pretending to be a dead person, lol
Spencer got a state of emergency. Anyone else laughing?
Spencer, most likely
OMG! Tim Poole has a monetized video!
I'd like to see you follow up with this student after the event.
