Great video. Super helpful now that Netgear have abandoned their ReadyNas machines.

This was enormously helpful. I was migrating from my trusty old ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus (pre-upgrade RAIDiator 4.2.31) to my new Synology DS720+. I was looking for the fastest solution (I wished it was possible to do a USB to USB transfer) and didn't want to mount both from a computer. The ReadyNAS side was a bit tricky to config. I was worried that it's rsync version would be too old. It took a number of test backups to figure it out. Also on the Synology side - In the control panel 'File service -> rsnyc' enable the check box 'enable rsync account' and add the rsync user under 'Edit rsync account'. But I got her to go. Now I have upgraded the OS on the ReadyNAS to 6.10.7 and will now use that for incremental backups of the Synology NAS. Many thanks!

Super useful video, thank you. I'm migrating from a very old WD but this has pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks to you I was able, after a few attempts, to start the data transfer from an old d link to a new synology.

Done a Netgear NAS migration several times over the years. Always used a PC to map the storage to drives and then std data copy/move. Never really realised this capability in the Netgear Backup module... I don't think this is much faster to copy (is it?) but I wish I'd known of this as it certainly would've freed up and remove the resource load from my PC, especially when terabytes of data can take many days!

I knew there was an easier way... lol.. Backup of course! Thank-you for the reminder.

Thank you for putting this together! I have a ReadyGear 214 with 4 8TB drives, RAID5, and I just purchased a Synology 1821+, which I'm starting off populating with 4 16TB drives. I have to copy the ReadyNas information over to it, and then I have TONS of portable hard drives I need to sync to it as well. I'm primarily Mac based, but because I connect using SMB, I've got PILES of those double dot files. I have to figure out how to stop those from going over to my new NAS. Any ideas? Maybe using rsync as the protocol instead of choosing AFP or SMB will work? Also, is it correct to assume that I can set up the RAID on the new NAS as SHR, and still be able to do this backup from a RAID 5 setup? Thx again for the spot on easy to follow demo! It's exactly what I needed to get me started, and it just saved me trying to do a plain copy from one to the other.

So why did you opt for a RAID5 rather than a SHR?
Exactly what I need to do. Except with a two bay Readynas from 2011 (2x2TB - RAID0), a two bay Sitecom NAS (2x2 TB - RAID0) and a single disk PlayOnHD2 (2TB) (I am guessing I am in for a lot of trouble) ...
