    Non-display pen tablets do have some advantages, besides being more affordable:
    + Your posture would not be ruined if you don't have a proper set-up;
    + You don't have to calibrate the colors on the screen of the pen display to match the colors on your computer screen.
    Even if you don't draw professionally (as in illustration, comic, digital arts, cartoons...), getting a pen tablet can certainly help you with light graphic design, 3D modelling, photo/video editing and even using certain programs and games. Basically everyone with a PC should get one, not necessarily from Wacom though.

      Lemme add a few more from experiencing pen tablets > pen displays > pen tablets:
      + *_Zero_*_ delay_
      + Your hand isn't blocking what you're drawing
      + No driver hassles (e.g. pen display drivers frequently conflicting w/ windows drivers)
      + Pen display's repair cost are expensive
      + Staying with pen tablets will keep your muscle memory/reflexes on using it, which will save you days of valuable productive time not relearning it (e.g. when your pen display _do_ break)

He's a true Wacom fanboy in this video while he's praised Huion and XP-Pen for the better "bang for the buck" than Wacom.

    I've been researching the pressure issues with these pens and tablets. At the moment the experience is very deficient compared to the older models (CTL-6100, CTL-6100WL, CTL-4100, CTL-4100WL) that these new tablets replaced. The IAF is noticeably higher preventing finer details at low pressure and how the pressure is handled creates odd strokes. I do not know to what degree these issues can be mitigated by Wacom or app settings. But in any case, a user should not have to. I'd recommend waiting on buying these tablets. Maybe a future firmware update or driver update addresses the pressure issues. I'll be publishing a video explaining these effects later this week (2023/09/08).

      I bought Wacom One Pen Medium a few days ago and mine doesn’t seem to have this problem (or at least not on that scale) - it does report pressure events with values between 1 and 200 (I get some 30s, 40s, low 100s, etc.) - but it does take some initial pressure to activate it (with very soft drawing, the line often breaks, no pressure being reported). Might be something the Linux driver does to calibrate it. I’m not very familiar with other tablets, so I can’t compare the feel and line quality with them.
      (I’m also not an artist and I bought it mostly for writing/taking notes, so it wouldn’t be a huge issue for me anyway.)

    I've had a couple of Cintiqs over the years, but I went back to a regular non-display tablet for two main reasons. The first is that I like to sketch very small. It helps me avoid getting distracted by details early in a drawing, and when I draw small the pen blocks my view while using a pen display. The second reason is that I was never happy with the screen quality on my Cintiqs (as well as a Huion pen display I bought and returned). Both of my Cintiqs had defects and bad colors, and all of them have the glittery anti glare filter that makes everything look fuzzy and sparkly. So a non-display tablet coupled with a regular high quality monitor has been the solution with the fewest compromises for me. But unfortunately no solution is fully satisfying.

    I remember when I bought my bamboo around 10-12 years ago, bit bigger than the small (at least it looks like it) and smaller than the medium and had buttons! Now it's been acting up and thanks to your reviews might switch to a tab s8 since I will also be using it to take notes and use as a second monitor at work, just praying my old pen works with the samsung tabs since it's a relatively old pen.

    I have 2 BlueTooth pen tablets --the small Wacom Intuos which does have 5 shortcut buttons along the top, and a mid-size XP-Pen tablet also with a row of shortcut keys along one shorter side. I bought them over a year ago & Brad did reviews of both models around the same time. The Wacom drove me nuts because I was used to drawing on 610 pen tablets & the small was too small. However, the drawing surface felt great, the pen was great although the nibs wore down much faster (and I have a light touch), the BT was *excellent*! The charging was fast, & it held a charge for a long time even if I hadn't used it for a while. The small size aggravated me so much that I bought the BT version XP-Pen in a 610 size. It's also pretty great except the surface is a little slicker than the Wacom. No biggie.
    BOTH came with charging cables, adapters for the XP-Pen, extra pen nibs --the XP-Pen came with more. NONE of this current annoyance where you have to buy them separately from Wacom. I love the BlueTooth, it's been great, would not go back to my corded Wacom or Huion tablets.

    If you factor in the price of the pen and cable, it's like 160 usd for the medium. For a supposedly entry level tablet with a not-so-great pen, that's ridiculous. You can buy a gently used Intuos Pro or a pro-level Huion or Xp Pen non-display tablet for that price.

    The lack of buttons sucks. Maybe it'd work if you'd map one button to unfo and another to tool change, but still a lot less convenient that the usual multi less button setup. Kind of disappointing, considering that nowayadays , XP Pen and Huion offer nearly the same experience for a third of the price (including pen and cable, not even mentioning the screen protectors, pen holders, nib replacements and non stick gloves those manufactures include) and still deliver such QOL features.

  • @juanignacioaschura9437
    @juanignacioaschura9437 Год назад +3

    To me the big plus here is pen compatibility. I have the original One by Wacom tablet, and parts availability will be an issue in the long run.
    But this generation shares the same pen as its screen brethren and thus, same compatibility with the EMR pens that Samsung and Staedtler have. I wonder if the older Penabled/Wacom Feel pens are compatible as well, I have an older pen from a Lenovo X220 Tablet and a Wacom Bamboo Feel pen laying around, but that is a big plus.
    The pricing however is what kills me. To slot in these One products, they had to move the other models upmarket, so the Intuos Pro Small, for example, which used to be had for USD199 if you shopped around, is now starting USD249 in the Wacom store.
    And the normal Intuos line-up is falling into some irrelevance even if being the bridge between the One and Intuos Pro, for the One added the most practical function the Intuos had (Bluetooth).
    The only value proposition the new One tablet has is not to be found in developed markets, but rather emerging ones, where the original One by Wacom was a strong seller.

  •  Год назад +1

    Apart from the price, other reasons that I believe are powerful for choosing this type of tablet over those with a screen are: 1- They are more ergonomic, since you have your head raised looking at the screen, you notice it more when you spend a lot of time illustrating. 2- It does not tire the eyes so much (this will not be explained why), but I assume that it has to do with the size of a monitor vs. that of a tablet screen. 3- You use the full potential of your PC/MAC, you don't have to have the super tablet to have the best performance.

    • @SpringStarFangirl
      @SpringStarFangirl Год назад +1

      I have the Kamvas 12 Pro, and it's great! It's basically the same size as my laptop (just slightly longer because of the shortcut keys on the side) and I'd say the only disadvantage to it is the cables. It's an older model, so it uses a 3-in-1 USB-C to HDMI USB-A and AC (power) cable, which means that I'm basically required to sit in one spot when I draw. Not great, but oh well. There's also the 13 Pro if you want the 2.5k resolution.
      Though if you want a graphics tablet, I only have experience with an older Wacom Intuos, and it wasn't great. Wore out completely within two years.

I can understand, however, with tablets like apple's and samsung's they are a functional computer without the pen and they at least come with a charger wtf lol (albeit the slowest crappiest charger in apple's case). Wacom trying to pull the same stunt is absurd as the thing is USELESS without the pen/charger. You can't use it without those things and they should come bundled at a good cost. Ugh rant over.

    Got the new xppen deco lw. Its awesome. One thing to consider with wacom is that nibs cost a lot more than xppen/huion, atleast in my region. If thats not an issue in your region, it really comes down to cost and drawing area when considering the newest models from these companies.

    I want to buy a new digital tablet, as my original old one by wacom finally gave up, but I can't quite decided if I should by a wacom intous m or a wacom one m, as even tho the One is atleast 30% more, if it is that much better I would be willing to spend a little more. I didn't have a tablet with buttons on it before, and I don't quite feel like it would matter that much for me, but the bluetooth does sound really good in the Intuos, but the One also has it now, but on the other hand the only thing that the One seems better in is the tilt recognation, which does sound cool and nice, but for how much more it costs, I'm really hesitant about choosing One, if anyone who actually used both or atleast one of these models could help me with deciding, I would be very thankful.

    Comparing this with the older Intuos model, which had express keys, a pen, and probably an entry level tier, this one feels scam. It's like Apple where they remove some of the necessary features and charge them for a higher price, each sold separately. Better just buy the old Intuos models, or other Wacom alternative brands that give you really big space, 20+ expresskeys, and a free pen for like half the price.

    These don't make a lot of sense since the Huion Inspiroy 2 hit the market. I've had a lot of Huion and Wacom products over the years. The Inspiroy 2 is the first time I can say I like the product more and it's not just the cost savings.

    I used a tablet for about 8 years and for the life of me I could not “draw” with them. I never could develop that hand-eye co-ordination.
    I would draw an image on paper, scan it, then just fix any mistakes and colour it with the tablet. But drawing from scratch? I couldn’t do it.

    • @ajwalker4416
      @ajwalker4416 Год назад +1

      And I'm the complete opposite. I keep trying to draw on a screen but something about the tablet feels more "natural" to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess 🤔

    • @dplj4428
      @dplj4428 Год назад

      I adapted well, I think because in olden days my art teacher taught us to mostly look up instead of the paper we were drawing on. So for me, initially pen tablet to screen was awkward, but thanks to already having good hand eye coordination it was a short transition.
      I still do traditional pencil and paper because I enjoy it plus my brain seems to collect so much information that helps me see when a digital drawing is off kilter, poorly designed or off from the colors i feel i want.
      When I got my first digital pen tablet, my computer was a Commodore Amiga with a Macintosh emulator board. The paint app was Deluxe Paint. I forget which sculpting app i had. Just imagine the machine chip speed was 7 Mhz. After 48 hours of waiting for rendition, i gave up. Why the Amiga? It supported color, unlike the black white machine from Jobs and Dave. It was way less expensive. Might be interesting to discover why the machine didn’t continue. You can still find magazines supporting its operating system. I find the best computer magazines for all old and modern computing are from Europe where good hackers = innovators, not the other.

    "budget price" 90$ for set tablet + pen is budget? i know, compared to tablets with screens it is budget, but come on, old ctl 472 was like 50$ at most, its 2x that price. in my country the newest S model on amazon is like 150$ which is a total joke (isnt customizable so i guess full kit), M is 200$+ (~850pln). in other shops, it isnt currently available, however on polish amazon ctl 472 isnt restocking, which is sad especially for osu players and people without money (from what i know 472 has no input lag compared to newest wacom one). what do you think about this? is this normal?

    Folks just try XP-Pen. I think Wacom is still the gold standard but unlike the early 2000's XP-Pen and others are now very close to Wacom. The problems these competitors have had in the past was the drivers and today they've pretty much bridged the gap. I have both brands, the problem with Wacom tablets(Intuos) is the nibs wear out too quickly.
