  • Everyone loves en passant. I dare anyone, say to my face that you won't make en passant move if you have opportunity. In this video GothamChess challenges regular en passant lover with a difficult life decision.
    Audio has taken from "Guess the Elo 12" (0:47)
    Month ago i made little funny animation about chess and suddenly it got views. Algorithm makes wonder. But algorithm isn't only YT, it is people who are willing to click at this little stupid video. If you are reading this, thank you so much! I see all of this as a opportunity to make cool animations, improve myself and make people laugh. Subscribed or not, i hope that you enjoyed it, and if you want, you can stay for futher fun animations.
    UPD: Also, if you want some extra - sketches, work in progress, memes, fan-art, maybe some comic pages - now i have a twitter: / drbees3

    • @isavenewspapers8890
      @isavenewspapers8890 Месяц назад

      @@hyperjank5129Aside from what @Mateus-hq4ik pointed out, there are also other ways. Consider the following position:
      - White: Ka4, Bd4, Pc5
      - Black: Ka7, Qc3, Ra8, Re4, Nc8, Pc6, Pd5
      - White to play
      - En passant: d6
      After 1. cxd6+, a discovered check from the bishop on d4, Black has 4 different ways to mate in 1, collectively covering the 3 different ways to get out of check:
      1) Black can play 1... Kb7# or 1... Kb8#, stepping out of White's check and unveiling a discovered checkmate from the rook on a8. White's bishop is pinned, so it cannot block the check.
      2) Black can play 1... Nb6#, blocking White's check and checkmating White's king. Again, White's bishop is pinned, so it cannot capture the knight. Note that the blocking piece can itself be the piece that checkmates the enemy king.
      3) Perhaps most straightforwardly, Black can play 1... Rxd4#, capturing the checking piece and delivering checkmate.
      Now, yes, this is a pretty contrived and unrealistic position, but the point is that it is possible. The conditions for these kinds of situations to arise in a natural game may be rare, but nothing says that they can't happen.

      @benevolentworldexploder5395 3 года назад +18

      That's because either most players play to pass time and don't know what en passant is, or because the other players have a house rule to strictly forbid it. Everyone I played chess with, when I was a kid, did so with the most basic understanding of how to play. As a result, I didn't know about castling or en passant until I was about sixteen. Despite that, I had been playing with relatives since I was about seven.
      It feels good to know that, in spite of my shortcomings, I managed to lose, draw, and then win against the person who taught me more about the nuances in chess. I learned more about chess in a single night than I did in nine years. Goes to show my level of comprehension is still lacking. I'm just glad I am a quick study, even though my interests pull me in other directions.

    Not sure why but I feel like I stand alone here, I sit around 1200 and I feel a bit of the opposite. In fact I feel people will push a pawn giving me the option of En Passant on purpose with the assumption you mentioned, that I'll snap-reply with En Passant. I actually find great satisfaction in trying to find an alternative, and ignoring it, if I can.
    En Passant is one of the most interesting chess moves, but for me, only fun and "cool" if I feel it actually works.

    Once (no stakes involved) my opponent who I didn't know asked me "Is en passent forced?" before doing a pretty bad move, except of course en passent was forced and I blundered a pawn

    I was playing a game the other day and I had an opportunity to en passant. If I did, it would ruin my entire checkmate plan. It took everything in me to take with my knight instead.

    And yet, if you have a good move that can easily get crushed by an en passant, you will assume the other person won't see it and play that move

    I've got a correspondence game on the go, and I was contemplating a move that would allow my opponent to take en passant. When I realized it was massively winning for me if he took it, I made the move. Yet somehow I was surprised that he did it anyway. It truly is an automatic move.

    1. Play as if my opponent will never en passant cause they probably don’t know the rule
    2. Play as if my opponent will always en passant cause reasons in video
