Wayne's romantic comedies are often overlooked. This one and North to Alaska have always been two of my favorites. The Quiet Man is deserving of a watch as well.
She did THE QUIET MAN already. I suggested DONOVAN'S REEF (1963) - Patrick has a bit part in that, and it has great scenery being shot on Kauai. It's a South Seas Christmas rom/com. And let's not forget HATARI! (1962) - his other movie with an exclamation mark in the title - shot on location in the old Tanganyika, East Africa, and he did most all his own stunts with those wild animals.
Great movie. 3 beautiful women here, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne De Carlo and a young Stephanie Powers. You should see pictures of Yvonne De Carlo in the 1940's when she was young - absolutely beautiful. A good western. I'd highly recommend "Big Jake" - with O'Hara and Patrick Wayne again, and add in Richard Boone as an excellent bad guy.
This was a year before Yvonne took the role of Lily Munster. You can see what a beautiful woman she was without her shroud and ghoul makeup. She and Maureen were both in their forties when they did this film and are both stunning and sexy.
So far you haven't seen a non Cowboy John movie. I'll recommend Branagan, Sands of Iwo Jima, The Sea Chase, Trouble Along the Way, They Were Expendable, Hatri,
@@bigsteve6200 I'm surprised Island in the Sky wasn't thrown in there. You actually get to see a few scenes where the Duke emotes panic and loss, which don't happen often. Plus you get some Andy Devine comic relief and the first appearance of James Arness in his illustrious career.
Dawn Marie, you were correct in your assessment of Yvonne DeCarlo as the most beautiful woman you have ever seen. She was named the Most Beautiful Woman in a contest in the 50's, and she maintained her beauty for many years to come. And she even kept her beauty with green make-up in her TV role as Lily Munster on the show "The Munsters", in the mid-60's. "McLintock" was a favorite on TV during the 60's and 70's, so happy you gave it a "Best Movie Ever" rating.
2:56 "I'd only eat some of you. And then I would wash and blow dry the rest and make you fluffy cows." I don't know for a fact, but I think that's the first time those words have ever been spoken in that combination.
The most Scottish woman thing I've ever heard anyone say and I live here. Scottish girls are sweet as sugar but with a ruthless practicality and a old testament level of temper. That's why we both love and fear them. That's why we call fiery woman a nippy sweety ( sour candy)
@@pauljohnstone180 One of my favorite uniquely Dawn moments was when was trying think of what she could do to earn money in the old west. She said "I could sell eggs! Not MY eggs, chickens' eggs."
When Kat falls off the ladder into the water "Is that someone's bath water?" Nope, that is a watering trough for Livestock to drink out of, full of Horse spit.
Grew up on this silly shit. Love that you're watching. Edit: El Dorado is another great John Wayne comedy. " 'Did you get him?' 'he was limping when he left' 'he was limping when he got here!' "
"The guy who owned it before, he didn't see so good. He just shoot where he hear the other man talking. One night he got in a fight in the saloon. Piano player play so loud he couldn't hear the other man. So he shoot the piano player, and theeey hung 'im" El Dorado is one of my favorite movies.
The actor that played the man that was courting McLintock's daughter with the banjo is the brother of Dick Van Dyke, Jerry Van Dyke. He was a regular on the American TV series "Coach".
My favorite Wayne film. The speech he gives Becky about a couple growing together through hardship and life is fantastic. Wayne and O’Hara had an amazing friendship in real life as well and you can feel that chemistry on the screen.
J.W.'s son Patrick Wayne also had a bit part that same year in DONOVAN'S REEF (1963), wherein J.W. teamed up again with Lee Marvin (a.k.a. Liberty Valance), but this time on a South Pacific Island (It's pretty funny as well - a Rom/Com with great scenery). The boy got mad because he thought he was being given Charity with the job offer - just silly Pride. This plot is basically another retelling of Shakespeare's "The Taming of The Shrew".
John Wayne did an Interview he said they all had the most fun filming the Mud slide scene even Mauren O'Hara 😂..it's a Great Movie and a Young Stephanie Powers later of Hart to Hart Tv show
That is Yvonne DeCarlo... best known as Lily Munster, John Wayne actually insisted she get this role to help out because her husband a stunt man and friend of Wayne's was laid up. Also the one who assaulted Wayne after he gave him a job is his real life son Patrick
McLintock! (1963) was filmed at Old Tucson Studios in Tucson, Arizona: Other filming locations for the movie included San Rafael Ranch House in Patagonia, Arizona, and Lochiel, Arizona. Old Tucson Studios was the first western studio set, built in 1939. It's been used to film over 500 movies and television shows, including Rio Bravo (1959), El Dorado (1966), Tombstone, Joe Kidd, Winchester '73, and Three Amigos.
Stephanie Powers playing the daughter: She is best known later for her role as Jennifer Hart on the mystery television series Hart to Hart (1979-1984), also starring Robert Wagner. She did TV guest spots and movies for years until landing that series.
I'm tempted to re-watch the video with a pencil and paper and just count the number of times Dawn called for someone to get punched, or have their eyes gouged, or otherwise be beaten up. She's a violent one, is our Dawn. 😂
One John Wayne comedy we missed out on, Mel Brooks reportedly tried to recruit him to play the Waco Kid in Blazing Saddles. Brooks' initial idea was that Sheriff Bart would be teamed up with a real cowboy icon. The story goes that John Wayne loved the script and even said he'd be first in line to see it, but felt it wouldn't be right for his image. Gene Wilder got the part after campaigning for it, and of course he changed the dynamic somewhat. Wayne did make some other comedies. The one that comes to mind first is North to Alaska, with Ernie Kovacs. It's a romantic mix-up and gold mining.
Whalebone corsets were a thing back in the day, and that’s why some used to faint when shocked, or otherwise, they couldn’t breathe properly. 😮. Why it was considered the way to be, I don’t know.
I believe the "nincompoop" is played by Strother Martin, the same guy who played the ornery horse trader in Wayne's True Grit 6 years later in those funny scenes he had with the girl Mattie.
Maureen O'Hara had surgery a short time before this movie. Hats off to her willingness to do her own stunts. The young man that got engaged to McLintock's daughter is John Wayne's son. His little sister was John Wayne's daughter. Michael Pate, who played the chief of the Comaches was an Australian.
The funny thing is that I've been binge watching John Wayne movies the last few months, he made some great movies and he's a better actor from what I heard from some people. I think Rio Bravo, The Cowboys, The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Liberty Vance would be my favorite Wayne movies at this point.
The "Little man with the glasses" is Strother Martin, a first-class character actor who appeared in many films, including some other Wayne vehicles such as The Horse Soldiers. Strother always played a very different character from any other he had played, and was very good at all of them.
Agard, the Toady with the glasses is Strother Martin, one of my favorite Character Actors. RIP too young at 61. ** A "Threesome" is called a "Menage a Trois".
I can see how McClintock could be difficult to pronounce. It is a Scottish name. "McClintock is one of the names derived from the families of the ancient Dalriadan clans of Scotland."
One of my absolute favorite movies, thanks for reacting to it. Much like "The Quiet Man", it shows what great chemistry Maureen and John had together. Maureen is probably one of the reasons I'm so fond of redheads. Mrs. Warren was Yvonne DeCarlo who later on played Lilly Munster on the tv show "The Munsters" showing how versatile of an actress she was.

I love this movie, was one of the first movies I saw. My Grandfather was a huge John Wayne fan, and took me to see this when I was 7 years old, so this movie is a special movie to my heart to remember him.
Young hand whose mother played by Yvonne DeCarlo is one of John Wayne's sons, Patrick Wayne (Patrick John Morrison) as his father's birth name was Marion Robert Morrison. I believe that either movie studios or John decided to use stage name to John Wayne.
Dawn Mclintock's daughter's (Stephanie Powers) boyfriend was played by comedic actor named Jerry Van Dyke whose brother is the iconic actor, Dick Van Dyke at the age of 98. Dick still active in TV and movies today.
Another John Wayne western comedy is 'North to Alaska' featuring the beautiful French actress Capucine. I'm sure you'll enjoy the story line and the scenery... check it out.
Hi Dawn ... I'll try to clear up one thing you were confused about earlier in the movie. The reason young Dev took a swing at McClintock after McClintock offered him the job (after repeatedly refusing to hire him earlier) was because Dev misread the job offer as "charity" and he felt belittled and insulted as a man. He wanted to EARN his living and NOT be GIVEN a "HAND-OUT." McClintock understood and respected that stance (because it was his own philosophy as well) ... which is WHY McClintock didn't get mad at Dev for throwing the punch, and instead took the time to explain that Dev would EARN his wages because he'd deliver an honest, hard day's work in return for it. He made Dev feel good about himself by saying "I hire MEN." So from there, their mutual respect and affinity for one another grew ... and I'm CERTAIN McClintock was happy with Dev as a husband for his daughter instead of the vain, pathetic milquetoast.
Im 55. Watching these JW movies reminds me of days gone by watching these with my dad. Should of spent more time doin that. Last movie I remember watching with him was Hot Tub Time Machine.... Cancer sux. Miss ya pops.😢
Love this movie. Haven't seen anyone else react to it. John Wayne was great, and Maureen was INCREDIBLE, her personality lifted this film to a different level. Cast with many of John Wayne's regular talent pool (a lot of the supporting cast you will find in many many of his films).
Great as usual Dawn. You should react to a great movie where an “old man” is the hero as he discovers a town’s coverup of a terrible crime. Watch the great actor Spencer Tracy in the movie “Bad Day At Black Rock.” Your buddy Lee Marvin does a great job as another “bad guy” like in the “Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.” Great movie, give it a try.😃😎👍
Truly an awesome movie. Hopefully more are on the way like: The Searchers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Sons of Katie Elder, Fort Apache, Rio Grande, Rio Lobo, The Comancheros, Red River, and Big Jake. Of course thats just off the top of my head since its refreshing to see someone reacting to fine Westerns. Keep up the great work 😊👍
I spent time working horse ranch on San Juan Island, with eagles nesting tree in driveway. I named them Fred an Wilma. Going into work I see car hitting eagles trying to get rabbit from road. They learned that wasn't a good idea! Next morning rabbit got run over. I laid rabbit under they're tree, now stay out of the road. Flew down an tore it up like they'd never eaten before. Week later eagles waited for me to eat lunch under they're tree. Fred always was 2" from my left hand, Wilma walked all over. She took 3 hops on my lap, standing on my legs! I've got an eagle standing on me! First thought, she's big an heavy!I have to look up at her. Wilma, your such a beautiful girl! She leaned down rubbing her face an beck against my face, giving me affection! I love you too! She hops off my legs. I look at Fred, rub his chest feathers, isn't she just wonderful! You must be luckiest guy on the planet! He rubs my hand with his beck! Knock on window calls me in. Veterinarian says, master, all the animals here love you even the wild ones! (Great compliment!) Takes me to her clinic, gives me great horned owl an white snow owl to care for! I have friends on island that live me an they're not even human, but eagles! I found myself in middle of 5 orcas killer whales fin to fin around me! Check out LA Connor, Washington, with large Indian reservation an huge gather wooden lodge that's about beautiful! I have friends with yacht around bay filled with other yachts. I get invited to Christmas party, with hostess, just talking away to crowd about my adventures with orcas an eagles, octopus I named George! Along with stories of Fred an Wilma. I get invited to attend this huge lodge for Indian gathering. I find 2 elders almost arguing about me? One says, tell us about the eagles! I tell them about learning eagle trees an guiding national geographic around island to photograph the eagles. Then told them about Fred a Wilma on my lap rubbing beck an face against mine! they tell me I have an eagle as spirit guide, most powerful! Then other elder asked me about the whales. I told them about scratching back of orca Alfa male as he passed under my rubber raft. I'm thinking, he's never had back scratches like that before! He's thinking same thing, power braking to stop. Resting on surface with pectoral fins, looking right at me. He nods head several quick movements. I swam up to him, I hugging an orca, I'm freaking out! I get hit in my back! His mate, another orca is hitting me in the back, wanting attention. I grab her nose in my arms. Is this your mate? You must be luckiest orca on the planet! Still holding on to her she takes me underwater sonars sound right through me. I see 3 black shapes coming up from blackness. Now I'm circled by 5. So these Indians gave me two names: eagle friend an swims with Orcas! I like both names!
John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara definitely had chemistry and were good friends in real life.
Every movie they star in is gold.

Yes, the man with lipstick all over his face is John Wayne’s son. His name is Patrick Wayne.
Keep up the great work 😊👍
It's great fun to see Dawn fangirling over cows :)
At 25:15 the actor playing Puma also starred with JW in Hondo where he was portrayed as a warrior and honorable man.
LOL, I just recommended this in your Rio Bravo video comments.
Agreed! Butter does make everything better!
Most action and stunts in John Wayne's movies were choreographed by him. He was also a great horse wrangler and armorer (handling guns).
Lol I'm native so whenever I'm at a friends party with no beer or something I usually enjoy saying "Good party but no whiskey - we go home!!!"
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR YOU TO WATCH THIS!!!!!❤❤❤❤
The character of Drago is played by Chill Wills, a long-time character actor in westerns.
7:03 “they’re going to end up like his new daddy” that is actually his daddy
When my nephew was young, he called this movie the mud fight movie. At 13:30
I have so many fond memories of watching this movie in my childhood... especially the mud fight 😂
I like Dawn. She’s kooky.
To this day, when I approach an event already in progress, I am apt to say “HOOoooooo McLintock!
Your reaction to western movies are so good I love to seeing the joy on your face.
The lady cook is the woman who played Lilly Munster.
Great reaction Dawn! I needed it today. Thank you.
