Nice explanation. I have Jio Air fiber STB which does not have an audio out port and my home theater set up does not have BT functions. In view of this, I am not able to connect my 5.1 channel system to STB and enjoy its sound. Checked with Jio Support, but they also say to connect using BT. Anyway, I have now connected STB to TV by HDMI cable, TV to HT by optical cable. With this set up, I get only 2.1 channel audio sound. My question is - can I buy this Mi box and connect using the optical toslink to mini toslink cable to HT and then HT to TV by HDMI cable (My TV does not have ARC HDMI port, but HT has). With this set up, is it possible for me to enjoy 5.1 audio with surround sound?

I have one question hope you answer that, I followed the same instructions as U showed in this video but when I play video on NETFLIX or Amazon Prime the TV is showing "not supported!" in the middle of the screen but sound is coming from the SOUNDBAR and whenever I tried to increase/decrease the Volume it's showing the same thing. Is that because I have a 2.0 CH soundbar and 5.1 CH cannot come as an output?
IF you connect Mi box directly to TV, there could be. In such case you have to keep TVs volume to zero. But if you connect Mi box to speaker directly into HDMI port and it can pass through video signal to TV, there will be no sound from TV.

@@TuhinBagh This happens due to various reasons like length of cable, downmixing capability of sound bar, etc. Some sound bar has feature to do audio sync. You can try that.

Brother, where you are trying to play sound? I mean platform and which dolby format you are playing? If you are trying to play DD+, it will not work. Because such toslink cable is not capable enough to carry the signals.

Couple of things first- What is your main purpose of buying android tv stick or box? Like mainly streaming. Adding external devices..? For android tv, are you looking for specific budget and brands?

Also would like to be able to install and run android TV applications. I assume streaming services will come along with most of the stick or box will nearly be same and those can be installed if app support is available? For TV buying budget, I would not want to spend more than 50K, not decided on brands yet but size at-least 50" Good color reproduction (coz my current TCL TV red color bleed, Dark scenes do not look good unless u make the room dark) and smart TVs smartness features should should not get outdated for atleast 4-5 years :)
First, you can dm me on intagram and twitter. Second, if you are checking about video pass through, it depends on your audio device like soundbar. It works with my samaung soundbar upto 4k 30hz no hdr and 10bit . Third, if you are asking about digital audio pass through, it doesnot work when hooked directly to soundbar hdmi port. Hope this helps!

brother, bluetooth cache ko clear karnese problem shayad solve ho sakta hai. But issey jo bhi device already connected hai unko phirse pair karna padega including remote. @ReV bro I have zeb9700 Dolby atmos soundbar which supports passthrough. When I tried to connect my mi box with hdmi in port of soundbar and soundbar hdmi out port to hdmi in port of TV the display came till the logo(android TV) and the screen got black. I contacted the customer care . They confirmed me that hdmi passthrough is not supported in mi box 4k as well as mi TV stick. Plz let your viewers know about this in a dedicated video. Mi box doesnot support atmos and dts x. For coreelec you have to go for matrix version but again you have to check amlogic soc version compatibility. Check their website or related forums.

Bro I have two more doubts first does 5.1 audio works on prime video & Sun NXT second is there any option to play Dolby Digital Plus files using this mi box 4k because I have planning to make a home theatre setup I have confused whether I wanna go for TV or projector if TV means it comes with complete package but lags in size & price but in projector screen doesn't problem but there's nothing can played so I planned to buy mi box 4k but it doesn't support Dolby Digital Plus files but in TV's it automatically converts EAC3 to AC3. Lets start with whether Mi box supports DD+ or not, so answer is Yes it supports. Now about Prime video and Sun Nxt, I have been using Prime Video with 3.1 setup since its inception which works well for contents with normal Dolby - downmixing (since I do not have 5.1 setup). Unfortunately, I havent used Sun Nxt yet so cant conclude anything on its audio performance. Sony bdv-e3200 supports DD+ so you should not face any issue passing sound through mi box. Amazon HDMI audio splitter does not support DD+. I would suggest you to wait for realme 4k stick to see what it has to offer at what price.
@@md_ibrahim.17 See I have always used prime with my 3.1 bar, so when I check on my TV settings what audio format I am getting it shows Dolby Digital but this is definitely downmixed version because most of the contents on prime are in DD+ which spdif cant handle but due to prime's compatibility issue with android devices its down mixing is not good. Bottom line is we cannot know exactly whether I am getting 3.1 or 5.1 (if I had) with my available speaker set up. For such testing you need good separate AV amplifier type of set up which shows pass through audio format with number of channels info. Hope this helps
Only one bluetooth speaker is connected apart from remote. If the audio is perfectly working on bluetooth earphones on your device, could you please share the firmware version for your mi box 4k?
@dheeraj bhatia Brother I have not been using it for a while now. But I will check and let you. Meantime you can try clearing cache of bluetooh app from system apps section and check. But this will remove all your paired devices including remote. so you may have to pair everything again. Therefore you may require wireless mouse which comes with dongle after clearing it. There is also some bluetooth related apps available on play store, which provide some latest bluetooth codecs.

Thanks sir for your appreciation. It motivates us alot. If your soundbar has HDMI arc port, connect one end of HDMI cable to it and another to TV ARC port. Connect Mi box to other available HDMI port. Then select ARC mode in your soundbar It should work.
Is mi box bt audio connection lags with home theatre? Please reply actually I want mi box for my projector and it is not possible to connect home theatre in your ways(6 feet cable),it needs at least 25 feet cable to connect 5.1 home theatre system. Please advise what to do, thank you.
There is bit lag but not very noticeable unless you focus on sound only while watch movies. Regarding 25 feet length, is it possible for you to place home theatre receiver or device where all ports are available close to your Projector? If yes then other satellite speakers can be placed in distance as they must be having long connecting wires which go to receiver ports. I believe so long such cable is not capable to carry signal for this distance without causing any issues. Second thing, you might not get this length here in India. But you can try chinese portals like Ali Express.

I have mi box 4k connected to old lg tv that has hdmi ports. Now I have a boat 1160 soundbar, that has aux, bt, and optical port. I got aux 3.5 cable with soundbar when I connect mi box aux to soundbar aux, audio comes from soundbar and tv, both same time. Believe you have connected mi box to TV. If you had connected it to soundbar directly via HDMI cable (if your soundbar has a port for video passthrough), you would have heard sound coming from soundbar only. But when video and audio sources are different, you get sound from both receivers, TVs and soundbar's. In such case, you have to keep TV on mute or volume level to zero. Only Toslink cable will give dolby sound rest all like bt are incapable to carry dolby audio.
Thank you for your suggestion. I put the tv on mute, and connected sound bar to mi box via aux cable, now sound comes from soundbar, but remote of sounbar does not increase volume I have to use mi box remote. Secondly is it necessary to keep mi box power supply on when I am not watching TV or can I switch off mi box, will it impact the mi updates?

You know that mi box has only one aux port, I have boat 1600 soundbar which has one aux and one coaux port. So with blue tooth connection it works fine but U tube sound lags, garbled. When I connect with aux to aux with aux cable sound comes from tv and sound bar, then I put tv to mute as you said. Please advice what should be right combination of connection to get best result. If you want digital audio (except from YT as it does not support DD), you have to use wired connection as wirelessly you cannot stream DD. But Toslink does not have bandwidth to carry DD+.
So I bought a gaming monitor so I can game at a high performance. I also bought a Mibox and a soundbar. The soundbar has a hdmi input and output. So the Mibox is connected to the soundbar and the soundbar to the monitor. I'm I getting the most out of this setting? Any tips or suggestions?
If your monitor is 4k HDR capable and your sound bar HDMI port can pass through same, then only you should connect directly through soundbar. Otherwise you are not using it to its full potential.

Bro! I have a LG reciever with Dolby Digital support (6 speakers too) and Optical Port! Will the steps mentioned in this video work perfectly and will I get 5.1 output? And does 5.1 work with all the OTT platforms like Hotstar and Prime Video?
It should give you upto 5.1. But unfortunately i was able to test upto 3.1 only which worked fine. 5.1 works in both platforms but in prime i have noticed some titles show 5.1 but they give output upto pcm or stereo.
Bro How to turn on Stereo Mode in Mi box 4k.. bro how to fix very low dialogue but very loud sound effects on prime videos. Not used other sound system..
So if your device is not connected to any other external sound system then it should be providing you stereo. But still you can manually select it by going to sound settings > Digital Audio Format > then either select Auto Mode or PCM. It does not allow any scaling in PCM or Auto Mode to adjust the dialogue volume and other sound like it offers for DTS. Issue mostly happens with Prime Video because its downmixing is not good as per the capability or settings of TV Box metadata same goes for its HDR10+ color performance.
There is a another option under "Digital Audio Format", It's called "DTS sounds". Can you please explain what the option stands for? Should we change any parameter on it?

Iss ke numbers sound ke loudness aur quiteness ko control karne ke liye hai. Jaise agar koi scene mein dialogues bahut low volume mein hai toh DRC usey control karne ki koshish karega apke input level ke hissab se kitna woh loud hona chayen so that aap usey sun sako. Oppositely in loud scenes. Agar apke pass ek acha DTS speakers system nahi hai toh shayad apko iss setting ko change karne ke baad bhi utna difference nahi sunayi dega aur iss mein kuch aur technical cheezey bhi involve hai jis par yeh work karta hai Hope this answers your question
Hello Sir mai pichle 1 month se Mi box 4k use kar rha hun but jab mai apna koi device bluetooth se connect karta hun to wo us time to connect ho jata hai but jab usko dubara connect karta hun to mujhe har bar unpair karke dubara connect karna padta hai. Sir , yeh xiaomi ne connect button ko disable kar raka hai aur yeh sabhi device mein aisa hi hai even kuch Mi TVs par bhi direct auto or manual connect ka option nahi diya hai. Kuch one time solution ke liye device ko root karna padega jo mere hissab se abhi advisable nahi hai.
I m connected Mi box into Sound bar through optical cable. Sound bar is working. At the same time same audio comes from Tv (connected via HDMI). How to turn off Tv Sound
Brother, Since we are using two different devices for audio and video like for video we are directly connecting to TV and audio to soundbar, TV is taking video signal plus PCM sound from your HDMI and sound bar is taking only audio signals. If we passthrough video via soundbar by its HDMI port then both signals will go to TV from same common device which is soundbar in this case your TV should not interfere for sound. But passing through video from soundbar is not advisable if you do not have good or capable HDMI ports on your soundbar to carry your preferred video signals. For now, you have to keep your TVs sound to zero.

Yes because your soundbar doesnt support dolby digital format, it must be downmixing the sound and giving you output

Brother, where you are trying to play sound? I mean platform and which dolby format you are playing? If you are trying to play DD+, it will not work. Because such toslink cable is not capable enough to carry the signals.

I have got official confirmation bro. I asked the mi customer service and they told passthrough isn't allowed in this device.

Second, if you are checking about video pass through, it depends on your audio device like soundbar. It works with my samaung soundbar upto 4k 30hz no hdr and 10bit .
Third, if you are asking about digital audio pass through, it doesnot work when hooked directly to soundbar hdmi port.

@ReV bro I have zeb9700 Dolby atmos soundbar which supports passthrough. When I tried to connect my mi box with hdmi in port of soundbar and soundbar hdmi out port to hdmi in port of TV the display came till the logo(android TV) and the screen got black. I contacted the customer care . They confirmed me that hdmi passthrough is not supported in mi box 4k as well as mi TV stick. Plz let your viewers know about this in a dedicated video. I mistakenly bought this and I'm now regretting😭😭. Bro please reply.

Mi box doesnot support atmos and dts x. For coreelec you have to go for matrix version but again you have to check amlogic soc version compatibility. Check their website or related forums.
Please make a video on Hdmi pass through from set top box to soundbar and then soundbar to TV hdmi arc in.

Bro I have two more doubts first does 5.1 audio works on prime video & Sun NXT second is there any option to play Dolby Digital Plus files using this mi box 4k because I have planning to make a home theatre setup I have confused whether I wanna go for TV or projector if TV means it comes with complete package but lags in size & price but in projector screen doesn't problem but there's nothing can played so I planned to buy mi box 4k but it doesn't support Dolby Digital Plus files but in TV's it automatically converts EAC3 to AC3. Lets start with whether Mi box supports DD+ or not, so answer is Yes it supports.
Now about Prime video and Sun Nxt, I have been using Prime Video with 3.1 setup since its inception which works well for contents with normal Dolby - downmixing (since I do not have 5.1 setup). Unfortunately, I havent used Sun Nxt yet so cant conclude anything on its audio performance.
Sony bdv-e3200 supports DD+ so you should not face any issue passing sound through mi box.
Amazon HDMI audio splitter does not support DD+. I would suggest you to wait for realme 4k stick to see what it has to offer at what price.

@@md_ibrahim.17 See I have always used prime with my 3.1 bar, so when I check on my TV settings what audio format I am getting it shows Dolby Digital but this is definitely downmixed version because most of the contents on prime are in DD+ which spdif cant handle but due to prime's compatibility issue with android devices its down mixing is not good. Bottom line is we cannot know exactly whether I am getting 3.1 or 5.1 (if I had) with my available speaker set up. For such testing you need good separate AV amplifier type of set up which shows pass through audio format with number of channels info.

Only one bluetooth speaker is connected apart from remote. If the audio is perfectly working on bluetooth earphones on your device, could you please share the firmware version for your mi box 4k?
@dheeraj bhatia Brother I have not been using it for a while now. But I will check and let you. Meantime you can try clearing cache of bluetooh app from system apps section and check. But this will remove all your paired devices including remote. so you may have to pair everything again. Therefore you may require wireless mouse which comes with dongle after clearing it. There is also some bluetooth related apps available on play store, which provide some latest bluetooth codecs.

I think the Soundbar itself doesn't support dolby digital plus, so passthrough karma nevi karega. and dd plus format optical cable se support nevi milt only cdmi se mileage

If your soundbar has HDMI arc port, connect one end of HDMI cable to it and another to TV ARC port. Connect Mi box to other available HDMI port. Then select ARC mode in your soundbar It should work.

Is mi box bt audio connection lags with home theatre? Please reply actually I want mi box for my projector and it is not possible to connect home theatre in your ways(6 feet cable),it needs at least 25 feet cable to connect 5.1 home theatre system. Please advise what to do, thank you.
There is bit lag but not very noticeable unless you focus on sound only while watch movies. Regarding 25 feet length, is it possible for you to place home theatre receiver or device where all ports are available close to your Projector? If yes then other satellite speakers can be placed in distance as they must be having long connecting wires which go to receiver ports.
I believe so long such cable is not capable to carry signal for this distance without causing any issues. Second thing, you might not get this length here in India. But you can try chinese portals like Ali Express.

I have mi box 4k connected to old lg tv that has hdmi ports. Now I have a boat 1160 soundbar, that has aux, bt, and optical port. I got aux 3.5 cable with soundbar when I connect mi box aux to soundbar aux, audio comes from soundbar and tv, both same time. Believe you have connected mi box to TV. If you had connected it to soundbar directly via HDMI cable (if your soundbar has a port for video passthrough), you would have heard sound coming from soundbar only. But when video and audio sources are different, you get sound from both receivers, TVs and soundbar's. In such case, you have to keep TV on mute or volume level to zero. Only Toslink cable will give dolby sound rest all like bt are incapable to carry dolby audio.
Thank you for your suggestion. I put the tv on mute, and connected sound bar to mi box via aux cable, now sound comes from soundbar, but remote of sounbar does not increase volume I have to use mi box remote.
Secondly is it necessary to keep mi box power supply on when I am not watching TV or can I switch off mi box, will it impact the mi updates?
You are not required to keep mi box ON all the time. Which soundbar you are using?

You know that mi box has only one aux port, I have boat 1600 soundbar which has one aux and one coaux port. So with blue tooth connection it works fine but U tube sound lags, garbled. If you want digital audio (except from YT as it does not support DD), you have to use wired connection as wirelessly you cannot stream DD. But Toslink does not have bandwidth to carry DD+.
So I bought a gaming monitor so I can game at a high performance.
I also bought a Mibox and a soundbar. The soundbar has a hdmi input and output. So the Mibox is connected to the soundbar and the soundbar to the monitor.

If your monitor is 4k HDR capable and your sound bar HDMI port can pass through same, then only you should connect directly through soundbar. Otherwise you are not using it to its full potential.

It should give you upto 5.1. But unfortunately i was able to test upto 3.1 only which worked fine. 5.1 works in both platforms but in prime i have noticed some titles show 5.1 but they give output upto pcm or stereo.

You have to buy Mi box type of device to connect pen drive or hard drive. As far as I know there cant be HDMI to USB converter type of device.

You can use bluetooth but sometimes there might some audio latency as well which is adjustable.

So if your device is not connected to any other external sound system then it should be providing you stereo. But still you can manually select it by going to sound settings > Digital Audio Format > then either select Auto Mode or PCM. It does not allow any scaling in PCM or Auto Mode to adjust the dialogue volume and other sound like it offers for DTS. Issue mostly happens with Prime Video because its downmixing is not good as per the capability or settings of TV Box metadata same goes for its HDR10+ color performance.

Brother, yeh I believe DRC matlab Dynamic Range Control se related hai. Iss ke numbers sound ke loudness aur quiteness ko control karne ke liye hai. Jaise agar koi scene mein dialogues bahut low volume mein hai toh DRC usey control karne ki koshish karega apke input level ke hissab se kitna woh loud hona chayen so that aap usey sun sako. Oppositely in loud scenes. Agar apke pass ek acha DTS speakers system nahi hai toh shayad apko iss setting ko change karne ke baad bhi utna difference nahi sunayi dega aur iss mein kuch aur technical cheezey bhi involve hai jis par yeh work karta hai

Hello Sir mai pichle 1 month se Mi box 4k use kar rha hun but jab mai apna koi device bluetooth se connect karta hun to wo us time to connect ho jata hai but jab usko dubara connect karta hun to mujhe har bar unpair karke dubara connect karna padta hai.

Sir , yeh xiaomi ne connect button ko disable kar raka hai aur yeh sabhi device mein aisa hi hai even kuch Mi TVs par bhi direct auto or manual connect ka option nahi diya hai. Kuch one time solution ke liye device ko root karna padega jo mere hissab se abhi advisable nahi hai.

Brother, Since we are using two different devices for audio and video like for video we are directly connecting to TV and audio to soundbar, TV is taking video signal plus PCM sound from your HDMI and sound bar is taking only audio signals. If we passthrough video via soundbar by its HDMI port then both signals will go to TV from same common device which is soundbar in this case your TV should not interfere for sound. But passing through video from soundbar is not advisable if you do not have good or capable HDMI ports on your soundbar to carry your preferred video signals. For now, you have to keep your TVs sound to zero.
