I'm not an art student, but I took a figure class as an elective last semester and my major composition was on trans identity. You made some awesome work and hearing you talk about queer identities in fat bodies is so refreshing. I hope your next semester goes well! Excited to hear about it :)

Thank you so much, your piece sounds super interesting, I always think conversations of transness (and gender in general) in arts are just so interesting, you really get some interesting perspectives and conversations out of it!

This was so interesting, thanks for sharing! I'm curious about art school and what kind of things they teach. Also it's cool to see your work and hear about your experiences, you seem like a cool person :)

i'm quite a bit older but just finished my second year at concordia and i'm with you, i love geeking out about art school.
your drawing class sounds a lot like mine - for both drawing and painting we didn't get a lot of actual technical instruction, it was more about just doing work and figuring out your own style i guess. i would be so bummed to not have crits though! crits are so important and helpful and like a rite of passage and very affirming i find. something about having my work taken seriously helps me take my practice seriously too.
i haven't had a chance to take ceramics yet, but interestingly concordia doesn't teach wheel throwing. you can do it if you already know, but the focus of instruction is everything but throwing. some kind of philosophical difference i guess.
i wish we had hot glass classes!! but it does look scary.
i hear you on feeling you could do better... i'm still learning to let go of , they're just assignments and don't have to be representative of my entire practice. it's so hard though!
i loved all the drawings you showed, you have a really distinctive line quality.
    good stuff!!

Omg thank you for the comment!! i was definitely expecting more direct help in drawing and painting but i really think ive come to find value in my improvement being self directed. but yeah crits are like so so important for self directed improvement... but yeah having to put my work up and present it as a serious piece really changes the way you view your art, its kinda crazy!
That kinda sucks that they dont have instruction on the wheel, its so tricky to figure out (ive learned from 3 different demos now and still struggle). but yeah even at my school i find that the classes tend to favour hand building and slab work over wheel. I wish more places were able to have glass studios, its such a beautiful medium but its become so inaccessible...
thank you so much for taking the time to comment!!❤️❤️

It was cool hearing from a fine arts student at auarts as a design student there! I agree on print - biggest art struggle I’ve ever faced

i need to talk to more design students to hear what their experiences were like! i feel like everything i know about design is just watching people panic over how much they had due all year lol
i so wasnt expecting the print struggle, i feel like ive seen so many people minor in it and did not realize just how difficult of a medium it is!

Thank you! I mean yeah I've personally loved auarts, a lot of the online reviews ive read seem to be from people who have had personal gripes with the school but honestly i think in general the people I've been in classes feel pretty positively about it! Best of luck on getting in, you got this!

@@CertifiedMoth If I can recall, I remember you lived in the dorms to go to Auarts? How was it like there cus my mom is worried abt cleanliness and such?

    • @CertifiedMoth
      @CertifiedMoth  2 месяца назад +1

@@CRASSINOV4 the dorms arent the best ever but theyre also not the worst. Im choosing to stay in them next year as well. Theyre pretty clean, theres always a custodian in the building cleaning the lobbies and halls. The dorms are pretty small, and they havent been renovated for a while, but I think thats how any dorm would be really.
But its basically the closest you can live to campus (10 min walk), and youre also close to a train station, close to grocery stores, one stop away from one of the nicer shopping districts of calgary, and 2 stops away from downtown.
Not to mention the cost of living literally everywhere in calgary is a really big issue right now, the dorms end up actually beinf very affordable. Especially if you can get a roomate you get along with or already know, the dorms really arent too bad
