I have been in STL dozens of times during the TWA/ Ozark era. Flew two years ago to STL twice. One was on Southwest from Seattle the other was on American Airlines from DFW
Omg, that thumbnail and section 52:57 is to die for! Saint Louis arch, skyscrapers, just so beautiful. This is my favorite approach I’ve seen in a while! My fav is probably LAX and the 787 into Honolulu. Over all you videos tend to be stunning!
I do my best to always present the best views possible. People don't realize how much planning goes into making each video. It's not just buy a ticket and show up. I pick my seats based on a lot of factors including where the sun will be in the sky in relation to the aircrafts most likely flight path. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@sla31 Wow! Seems like a lot! I believe you have kids as well, so to leave them, plan where to go and what time because of the light. That sure is a lot of stuff to do!
Best approach into STL. Forest Park, the central west end hospital complex, St. Louis U, Anheuser-Busch brewery. Busch Stadium, the Arch and all of downtown. Loved it
Excellent trip video. I recently just flew back from Phoenix with a layover through Las Vegas then back home to St. Louis on this exact model and livery. Always look forward to watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
Nice day for flying and great shots of the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium (St Louis Cardinals) on base turn to final. To my mind, I find your videos very educational, as they always prompt me to research things further, such as POI's and generally where each city is in the States. For example, I always mistakenly thought in my ignorance that St Louis was much further south than it actually is i.e. somewhere in Louisiana, maybe the name gave me that idea. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was up nearer to Chicago. My lesson for the day lol. Well done my friend :-)
I'm glad my videos prove to he entertaining and informative! St. Louis, the gateway to the west. Of course, sitting on the mighty Mississippi River as well. It's also the largest city in Missouri, which is where I travel everyday for work. Of course, I live across the border in Kansas, but it's a short 15 minutes to the Missouri border. St. Louis is a city I know well as my grandparents have lived there since I was born. So, I've been there many many times. It's a very interesting city with a lot of great "free" attractions. Even the St. Louis Zoo, which is consistently one of the highest rated zoos in the US, behind San Diego, has no admission fee. As always, thanks for watching my friend!
Unfortunately, that's kind of an illusion. The runway had to be re-opened, so the aircraft were just moved elsewhere. Per FAA regulations, a runway wan only be closed for like 45 days before the runway markings must be removed, and the the runway, basically be decommissioned. This is to avoid runways being listed on air charts and airport charts, that really don't exist. Preventing pilots from trying to land on them when they're not there, or in this case, covered in obstacles. So, I think the FAA let Tulsa keep the runway closed longer than they really should have anyways. The FAA probably eventually told TUL, clear the runway and re-open it, or being the decommissioning process. Either way, the aircraft would've had to move. You can't really see in now, because it's on more remote parts of the airport, but every spare ramp space is now covered with A319's, 737-800's, and A321's. Sadly there are still a lot of AA planes on the ground at TUL.
It's worth mentioning that I try to film cabin shots when there aren't many people onboard. That way I get as few people in the shots as possible. I also have status with Southwest, so I'm generally one of the first 10 or so people on the aircraft. There were more people on the flight once everyone boarded.
As beautiful as it is, St. Louis is a pretty rough city. Statistically, it's 2nd most dangerous city in the US with almost 2,000 out of every 100,000 people being victims of violent crime each year. A statistic like that doesn't happen without a lot of "run down" areas that have been neglected by the government and rest of the city. Don't get me wrong. I love St. Louis. I have close ties to St. Louis, as my grandparents have lived there since I was born, and I'm now 30. I've spent many days enjoying what St. Louis has to offer, but it definitely has some major problems.
@@sla31 I see ... that’s a real bummer. Sorry, don’t know STL that well...haven’t been anywhere in the midwest before. Work always takes me to the NE or Pacific NW.
I wonder why do the crew feel the need to announce to everyone when they're cleared for departure? Seems pretty unnecessary as 99.9% of the passengers really don't care they just want to go and get there lol.
This is a standard practice on all Southwest flights. In fact, all airlines do this. They may just do it a slightly different way. Most airlines in the US do this by having a member of the flight deck come over the intercom and say something like "flight attendants please prepare for takeoff." This is then usually followed by a two ding chime indicating when the aircraft passes the hold short bar, which signals the crew that the aircraft is now on the active runway. Remember, flight attendants don't always have easy access to windows, so they need to be informed some other way when departure is imminent. Southwest doesn't do it that way. The flight deck informs the crew via private intercom, and then, I assume, the lead flight attendant informs the other members of the crew by making the friendly announcement to the passengers. "Ladies and gentlemen we've been cleared for departure." Both methods achieve the same end result, which is the flight attendants now know the aircraft will be in the air shortly. In fact, this practice may even be required by a FAA regulation, although I'm not certain on that. So, if my theory is correct, then this announcement, although it seems to be for the passengers, is actually for the other crew members.
@@sla31 everyone on the plane is required to be seated with seatbelt fastened for takeoff and landing. if any PAX or crew is not able to be seated, they must inform the captain who will delay departure. Chime or announcement is usually made when approaching the runway and not necessarily cleared for takeoff as it gives them time. also, awesome shot of my home at 52:07 !

I'm flying from Dallas to Orlando this Sunday on Southwest. Really hoping I get that great view of downtown Dallas since I'm flying out of Love Field.
Daaang! In all my years of flying to/from STL, I've never had a flyby that close to the Arch like that. So beautiful!
Poke!
