  • During the 1995 season, rivals Cass Tech and Martin Luther King played three times. This video is of the first game between the two, which decided the newly aligned Division 1 championship. It was a defensive battle aided by the absence of legendary coach James Reynolds. Jr. who was out of town to attend his father's funeral. Cass Tech won on a fumble recovery in the endzone, and the final score was 14-7.
Cass Tech won the rematch in the PSL championship several weeks later, 21-20, in overtime. Interestingly, King won the final and third game between these two rivals in the MHSAA state playoffs during the first round the following week, 13-12, and ended Cass Tech's season.
