When they were mechanical and not computers on wheels. But I’m not against technology. I love technology. Cars nowadays have way too much of it though. Compared to mechanical parts they’re often more expensive and less reliable.
60s and 90s cars have something special for me, 60s for styling and soul and 90s for having the right amount of technology and having also amazing cars and the golden era of japanese cars we love so much
Ford introduced the dual sided key on its 1965 full-size models. Ignition switch was on the left side of the steering wheel in Ford vehicles from 1952 through 1964. It was on the right beginning in 1965. The 260 V8 was offered from the beginning of the 1962 model year. Ford introduced the 221, 260, 289, 302 line of V8s in 1962. They were the first Ford V8 engines to offer thin wall casting. For 1962 they offered the 221 and 260. In 1963 they added the hi performance 289. In 1964 Ford offered a milder 289. The 302 arrived in 1968. The 221 and 260 were dropped after 1964.
These Fairlanes are overlooked because they're not special like a Mustang but they're still cool. The midsize car was still a new concept to the Big 3 in 1964. If you don't need to go fast, this car could still be used as a daily driver. The subwoofer in the middle of the trunk ruins it though. The installer should have at least put the sub off to the side so the trunk is still usable for big-ish stuff.
For only a weekend cruise, you want the music has to sound good😉and when the box is already sitting around the house, may as well throw it in. Plus so many good rap songs in the 90’s rave about a six-fo.
@@bldontmatter5319 yep that is true, but we didn't have anything to recharge back then, but we nearly all smoked: Lucky Strikes, Camels, Marlboros, Winstons - nonfiltered! We were blissfully ignorant and loved it.
One of my favorite cars of all time. An automotive Pièce de Résistance. One day I’ll buy one of these, set out on a two lane highway, and never look back.
What a cool car, I love everything about it! I used to have a 2005 Ford 500, & from the information I could find on the inter-web: it was only made for 3 years, (04,05 & 06) & Ford wanted to give a 'nod' to the 500 series of cars, the Fairlane 500, the Mustang Shelby 500 & so on. It was more of an old Caddy then a 'tire burning' Mustang, but great none the less!
I drove cars like that, and l thought they were the state of the art at the time. Go fast? Heck yes, we did. Drag raced them on Friday night and took our best girl to the drive-in movies and then had burgers and fries. We were Gods astride the earth and those cars were our chariots. Seat belts, air bags and disk brakes. Nope, never heard of that. V8's and torque were the talked about must haves. NOTHING sounds like a V8 and never will.
Probably made around when my grandfather would go the distance to grab 19c a gallon gasoline. Given the mpg at the time, even more likely wasn't worth saving the lucky penny or two.
Frugal people rarely ever save money. They spend hours trying to save dollars or pennies, when the opportunity cost is huge and takes them so long, they could've just worked a little extra

My grandmother also bought a two speed new and wrapped it around a tree when it bucked into first and took out three light pools before readending and totaling an abundance, that was the last new car she bought. Because there untested and unsafe. She drives an automatic SN95 GT convertible.
I often hear comments about the driving characteristics of 60s cars. Have you ever driven one that wasnt half+ worn out? Mine is fully rebuilt and people ask me what type of rack and pinion steering I have..... Its Ford factory original idler arm steering. JMO. 🙄
SHIFT GREAT FER A 2 SPEED zach what do you perfer in an old car 2 speed or 3 speed on the colomn? obviously 4 speed is superior but if you had to choose 1 in a second...
I had a 1963 with the 260 V8 and a 3-speed Ford-o-Matic. Other than the lack of any safety features, it drove very much like a modern car.
When cars had personality.

I'm sure back then Grandpa's complained about how older cars were better too.
Ooh yeah baby, Now that's a car worthy to be featured on Shooting Cars channel 😍😍

Anyone who uses subwoofers is looking for attention

Man the American designers In the 60s really had It going on! One day I’m gonna have a car like this! But gosh so simple and so beautiful!
Not a 12v outlet, that is a cigar lighter. It says so on the fuse box.
Ok, but it puts out 12v and is an outlet. Lol. Cig lighter is the same as 12v outlet

That was my first car same color and engine, but it had a 3 speed. I would get over 27 mpg with it.

I love layout of interior of this car. Bench seat and dashboard are awesome. Modern cars and even SUVs are so cramped it's nuts.

Wow, three light poles, totalled an ambulance AND hit a tree? They don't make 'em like they used to.
Cool car.
That’s interesting you say the brakes are sub-par. Mine are stock and I can stop fairly quickly.
GROWING UP MY MOM AND DAD HAD THE GALAXY TRIM OF THIS CAR. DADS WAS TAN EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR. MOM HAD BLACK EXTERIOR RED INTERIOR.
The green key holder is pretty old too.
Love my 64 Fairlane 289 C4 , I do wish they had better suspension because it floats alot
Rebuild it and get new shocks.
