I wanted you to know how important people like you are, to people like me. Thank you for posting this for free! Your work is amazing and I am learning so much from people like you, who are willing to teach us frazzled parents who are looking for a little time for themselves. Money always seems to be an issue and I wouldn’t be able to pay someone to teach me, so your videos mean so much.💕 Wishing you all the best.
Thank you very much for commenting! I love being able to give out some info here on RUclips so that many might be able to join in despite a tight budget. Be sure to look through the playlists as some of the real time tutorials sound like a nice way for you to unwind and work along.
Emma, thank you for the trip down memory lane, I've got the theme tune of the pink pather in my head. I love the glow from backlighting. It's striking. And I appreciate your comparisons on paper. Your objective feedback has always helped me figure out what will work best for me. I can't afford too much trial and error.
WOW 😯, that looks real. If I could touch it I would feel his or her fur. Absolutely gorgeous. You are truly talented with mad skills. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
Hullo Emma, I have seen the black leopard in person and they do look jet black until the light hits them just right and you see the darker black spots I believe you have captured this phenomenally well, well as you usually do in your animal portraits! I have also purchased larger UArt sheets but have yet to put anything on them. They are a more expensive choice! I do truly miss the Patreon community you have developed and the extension over on Facebook a wonderful group, perhaps when I get over my illness and feeling better I can join in again. Thank you for continuing to produce wonderful videos and encouraging and enlightenment when working with pastels. Please take care and have a lovely day!
Hi there! this is stunning as always, you are a source of inspiration and information (I guess I did tell you that before). It doesn't look as if you had problems with this paper at all! love it.
An awesome subject and amazing work of art. You've inspired me to try a similar subject/layout. Keep up the fantastic work. I truly enjoy your channel. Blessings to you!
Wow Emma! So beautiful, and thank you for share your thoughts about this paper... An a half of a pastel stick, it's very concerning! I know UART is literally sandpaper... It have many tooth and rough surface. It's good to know about this! Thanks for share! 🥰 Happy New Year!!!
Honestly? I prefer the UArt 800 to either the Pastelmat or the velour paper. I do realize my process is also entirely different, because I prefer the looseness of the UArt surface in that there is more work in shaping the tones, I'm not used to having the paper immediately grab the color and not let me blend in more as I go. I'm still overall new to the medium (I did quite a bit of charcoal, pen and ink and watercolor before this) But the UArt works better for how I use pastel and pastel pencils. To each his own, it's just interesting to see how other artists look at it differently.
wonderful work as usuall Emma. I have had a black leopard image on my computer for an age now but not really known how to get round some of the subtleness of the markings. love this video its given me the idea to get it on to paper now.
Do you think P400 is best for soft pastels than P 800, as that holds much more layers as pastelmat. UART PAPER is superb, but my only complaint is its dusty and doesnot hold pastels like pastelmat. Also blending ...should be done with AC pipe foam not with hands as it corrodes your skin easily.
hi Emma, what colour velour would u use the most? What was the name of the black pastel you mentioned? and for pastelmat, would u use the antracite? or dark grey? thank you
I love the sand colour of velour but depends what I'm painting. The black is an Henri Roché. And in terms of which pastelmat colour, it really depends what you're painting. Both those are great options for a dark surface to begin with.
I am working on a black raven on Uart 500, literally rubbed my finger raw when I forgot and blended with my bare finger. I forgot about Roche, I'll have to try that in my shadow areas. Beautiful painting, thanks for the inspiration.
It would be lovely to try out the Canson velvet black paper for this. I used UART but was not so impressed even though many love it. You can honestly use any of the papers I'm using. But I'd be interested to try the Canson black for this type of darkness!
Despite the struggles You had with the Paper it turned nice. But this demonstrates very good how important the right Surfaces are in Pastelpainting. Anyway I really like how the underlying Pattern seems to glow from beneath. 👍🐈⬛
From my experience with the Cretacolor black, it's not the darkest out there. Check out my video on comparing blacks at ruclips.net/video/5Y8Twj-g0AY/видео.html But I also love the eggplant colour from TL. I use it all the time now!
Gorgeous!!! I know you atethrough it but I'm selfishly glad you used the Roche pastel, I've been waiting to see you use them since you got your hands on those yummy goodies!!! Would love to see this on black velour, that paper is JET black!!! X
It is JET black! But it also kills a lot of your vibrance. It's a tough paper to work on! Did one piece on it many years ago. Only a blog of it if you want to see www.emmacolbertart.com/2014/06/11/twilight-city/
Hi Emma.. i do multiple mediums like pastels (details), oils, watercolour and gouache. Except pastels im usually doing other media as loose art work. However, since i started my pastels.....my obsession for detailed work is spreading in every medium. I am not worried about this new obsession. please comment. I am not really happy with this

Amazing work you have a gift from God . Thank you
Wow, this is amazing Emma. Despite the challenges with the paper the outcome is gorgeous. I’m looking forward to doing the tutorial in the future.

Amazing work…exciting to watch it pop off the page!

Very nice Thank you ❤
An awesome subject and amazing work of art. You've inspired me to try a similar subject/layout. Keep up the fantastic work. I truly enjoy your channel. Blessings to you!
Absolutely beautiful! I also love your ramblings as you paint. Mine are far less interesting and occasionally punctuated with obscenities. 😀
😆
Really really wanted to make such a beautiful piece of art myself but stuck with my exams . I'll surely join your patreon account after my exams.
Fantastic !

Absolutely agree and that's why I wouldn't say UART is not a good paper. Just not ideal for me and my style.
I love this, i would use velour on a similar subject i think
Magnifique !

Looks amazing found pastelmat from you and it certainly is my favourite. When does your article come out in the art magazine?

Yes agree with the blending. I like UART too but it rolls very easily when not taped down and I think Pastelmat is better for layers too!

awsome
Emma, what brand of your white colour pastel pencil do you use?
My favourite is made by Generals number 4414. It's the best white pencil out there by far!
@@EmmaColbertArt thank you so much
Love this, looks like Terry Ludgwig Egg Plant would do well in this...and I wonder if the Cretacolor black chalk would be dark enough

Love it! What is that fancy pastel brand you mentioned?
Henri Roché :-)
Thanks! Cretacolor black chalk is blacker than black pastels.
See my video about the blackest blacks. I think Cretacolor was in there ruclips.net/video/5Y8Twj-g0AY/видео.html
Fantastic! Bravo! Merci! Emma! Очень Живописно получилось! С Новым годом тебя! 1000 👌🤗🤩🎄🎁🍀🥳🎉🎇💙💛
