I feel like you should add punishments or stakes to the battles to make them more intense. Loser eats a hot pepper, gift members to the other persons channel, mini tournament , etc
Yo Luke how about the gen challenge where you can only catch mons of one specific generation but you play as a protagonist from a specific generation and you can only catch mons that trainer has in their team then you battle example: you play as clement you can only catch mons clement has used
