Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while, Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies.....This song makes me realise how precious every minute living in this world is.
... hoping for the best but expecting the worst - are u gonna drop the bomb or not? ... LIVING in germany at that time this was an every day threat for nearly 40 years! And ALPHAVILLE are from Muenster, Germany - so they just expressed what young people had in mind with the cold war
It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since the first cold war ended. We all had that storm cloud looming on the horizon in those years. The nuclear threat remains, but it hardly seems as real as it felt back then. As you said, Germany had it really rough, being split in two between NATO and the USSR. I was still a teenager when the Berlin Wall fell, but I still felt a palpable weight lift off my shoulders all the way from the United States. It seemed like if it was possible to reunite Germany without involving the bomb, world peace was no longer so far out of reach. I wish those feelings of post-cold war optimism had been able to last.
@@berniemargolis4288really interesting to hear this. I’ve always wondered more about how my grandmother had it before she flew to Sweden with her brother. She has only told me a little bit. I guess it might be one of those wounds that never really heal. She has told me things like how some days they only had a couple of potato peels to eat. Even though I live in a pretty ghetto area in Sweden, I could never imagine such poverty. Truly amazing how some people live trough that every day.
My dad just recently passed away, and we played this song for him. It was his favorite as well as mine. The lyrics “It’s so hard to get older without a cause, I don’t want to parish like a fading horse, youth is like diamonds in the the sun, and diamonds are forever, so many adventures didn’t happen today, so many songs we forgot to play” it brings me to tears. Good video guys.
there is a cause, to humble us. That is the purpose of our lives. To acknowledge we are nothing and we depend of Yahweh our God and He sent us His Messiah to receive eternal life. it is that simple and that crude.there is no other way to eternity.Pain and simple
The opening lyric, _"Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?"_ is a reference to the Cold War. At the time, the world came very, very close to nuclear war.
Sounds like a Melody, Big in Japan, Summer in Berlin, Victory of Love, Jet Set. etc etc etc. Their debut album Forever Young was the best Synth album of the 80s, from the 1st to the last track....
Well i put Speak & Spell, A Broken Frame, Construction Time Again, Some Great Reward , Black Celebration and Music for the masses before Forever Young as the best Synth albums
I remember when this song came on. Then we danced slowly and it felt like heaven became a part of me and my love.! How could we be forever young and love each other like then.! This song will forever be No.1 in my heart I love it forever.!😍🥰

Amazing song and loved your reaction! Another great song about the Cold War is Ultravox - "Dancing with tears in my eyes". The original video still breaks my heart after all these years. Please try it..
Welcome to GEN X. We lived our childhood under the Cold War threat of nuclear attack. This was our prom song in 1987. Live for today. I recommend Russians by Sting for another example and as a fitting tribute to Ukrainian people
Well yes, but those were the easy times where you knew who was friend of whom. We just had an American president siding with an Ex.KGB oligarch to destabilize Europe. To what end? maybe so he could have some more hotels in the Russian Federation. Not sure which time is more dfangerous

This is a signature song from the Cold War 80s when WWIII was one atomic launch away. There is a reason we had movies like Red Dawn and War Games. It was our reality.
Love this song! It's about the cold war, fearing that they will use the atomic bomb and destroy everything. Have you reacted to Winds of change by Scorpions? It's a beautiful song about the fall of the Berlin wall and the end of the cold war.
I was never a big fan of this song but I heard it 1 day recently, And for some reason, it made me feel emotional about remembering the old days when life was better. And we had less responsibility. Old friends that I don't get to see anymore, etc...
You guys seem like you like synth pop or new wave. This is an untapped treasure trove imho. These songs are well known classics, which I would love to see you react to you if you haven’t already. “Policy of truth” by Depeche Mode “Space-age love song” by flock of seagulls “I melt with you” by modern English “Don’t you forget about me” by simple minds “Tenderness” by general public “Bizarre love triangle” by new order
Truly another unforgettable song I grew up with in the 80s. I feel the lyrics can be a bit confusing when they sing "I wanna live forever young. Do you really wanna live forever?" The way I interpret this is that if you want to live forever, then hope your view on the world will always be like a child, where everything is new and exciting. Living forever would be torture if not, since you would soon get bored after you have experienced everything.
Dios mio que hago cada ves que veo este video me pongo a llorar siento que sufre porque su letra va acorde a mi vida, bendiciones a este joven que Dios le dio ETA voz angelical❤
Hi Shawn and Mell, i really enjoyed your reaction here! This is one of 'the most powerful songs', the other one is the 'Earth Song' by Michael Jackson which brought you to tears during your reaction to it. Keep the reactions coming guys 👍 😊
The message I always took from the song was if you could live forever would you want to see the world in say a couple hundred years with how destructive we have been? The other thing the song touches on is if you were to live forever just think of the loved ones you would have to witness dying and getting sick. When I lost my grandmother it nearly killed me. 16 yrs ago this fall my granny blacked out behind the wheel of my car returning from a chemo appointment. I never got over it and it changed me as a person.
Alphaville are for me are in the top five of groups ever .. amazing artists full of amazing music and style,i am surprised that people didn't now them it's like you don't now led Zeppelin
As a young teen in the 80s the lyrics sunk in deep. Now in my 50s. I cry every time I hear this song with mixed feeling of joy and sorrow at the same time. The joy of feeling like a teen but the sorrow of reality sinks in the fact that the curtain will be closed soon and the show will be over for me.
I remember this song as a teen in the 1980's and I weep for what will be left behind when I kick (especailly after watching things like Jan 6) because I realize that after all that our generation has been through (the cold war, AIDS, 911) that people that are older have not learned a GD thing and X and Y does not give a shit since they are too distracted with gaming or the insta crap on their iphones. Does that make me sound old? To quote the idiot that gave ideological birth to MAGA, You betcha!
Growing up during cold war. It encapsulates hope and fear. Maximise your life because it can end soon, and a rallying cry to the governments to either drop the bomb or end the war. But stop having people living in perpetual fear of dying now.
