Decided to put this up because I've had it for months and sat on whether I should upload it or not. I don't think I'll do any more of these, mainly because this exists: twitter.com/kuraine/status/962811103741804546 (and I've already broken the rules.)
Yikes, glad I found this. I was thinking about making some extended versions of specific parts of some of the songs (because the full loop of that part isn't in the OST version, like with the differently layered mixes in Scattered and Lost). Do you think that would qualify as a "straight-up OST upload" given that there's nowhere else to get those bits?
Madeline: "You escaped one of me," *four more appear* "but can you run from ALL of me?" "but can you run from ALL of me?" "but can you run from ALL of me?" "but can you run from ALL of me?" "but can you run from ALL of me?"
What it does is it conveys the urgency of the chase sequence with Badeline... while also keeping that floaty, chilled out vibe the soundtrack is known for.
This part is so clever. The panning of the sounds, combined with the knowledge of who Badeline is, makes it sound like the music is moving from shoulder to shoulder to whisper intrusive thoughts into your head.
Everybody is talking about how hard these levels were, but I actually thought they were quite fun to play and were unique and creative ideas for level design..
I just played this section for the first time, this song is a banger. I regret not paying the extra couple bucks for the OST bundled with the game, but how could I have known? I intentionally never watched gameplay so I could have a completely blind experience. Loving the game so far.
Won’t happen to me. I’m already too evil for that to happen, I’ve already taken most control of my inner demons, but they may sometimes try to take over, and only 4 times have they been successful. I have four “leader demons” I will go from weakest to strongest: Demon Dancer ??? Electric Shadow C.A.T. They all have their own personalities, going in order of what’s above: He is very great at dodging, sometimes it feels like time slows down for those moments. Corruptions and magic and glitches in the universe. Great at speed and technology, ever gotten random texts being said in your head before? That was him doing that. And finally; She is the main commander of all of them, the “boss of bosses” if you will, and because of that, she is the hardest. When she gets into a situation, she will calculate the best option possible for that thing.
Im never not amazed by how well music can tell a sotry completely without words. knowing the context helps, but the music can truly put you the character's shoes. I hope im not sounding pretentious or edgy, but this song perfectly matches the plot. The piano baseline is in a low key, but played at a high BPM denotes Madeline's urgency. Each bar starts with the highest beat in the bar, pinging back and forth like a panicking heartbeat. The piano playing solo to me represents Madeline fighting this battle in her head all by herself. The chorus's ghostly tones match the sounds of Madeline and Badeline's voices. The intense, sharp notes pounding Madeline's brain to give up. Only after a time of panic, Madeline resolves to sing back her own tune of somber defiance. Amazing.
I just thought Celeste was a game about climbing a supernatural mountain with a retro-pixel style look. I got much more than that, much deeper than that. I'm currently on chapter 6, but the themes of each chapter have me thinking about what Madeleine's true personality is and what constitutes her flaws.

We could make Badeline a better boss fight in a different less platform-y game. Edit: I just came up with an idea for the boss, and if there were names for the boss levels, it would definitely be called “inner you” as it is basically you but stronger. Inner you can use your skills for her own, but you still keep them. Let’s say you are a brainy person, but your inner you actually is a great dodger, those two work together to make a stronger you. This game teaches you about multiple different things that can most likely be 100% true in real life: midair dashing, platforms that can be controlled by your movement, “Badelines” that chase you around, and so much more. But the important bits, are the ones that teach lessons in their own separate ways, such as: dealing with your fears, not by killing them, but by working together; get over your anxiety, otherwise you will be worse and worse at things; instead of being 100% scared of everything, slow down and take a breather. These are only some of the examples, but if you do these things well enough, you can unlock your core, and do even better things that you thought you could never do before.
