  • So when tools break you have a few choices, namely replace or repair. Here I chose not just to repair but to macgyver a repair. Join me as I repair/fix my broken auto darkening welding mask which has stopped darkening reliably and then completely stopped functioning completely.

Awesome to see folks taking the iniative to fix their gear! Its a shame that tabbed cr2450s are a bit harder to find than other sizes (outside of the 2450hr that are more expensive because of their heat rating). One thing that may save you hassle in the future is soldering a 2045 holder to the board instead of those leads. Itll let you swap out the battery quickly in the future. Great video, thanks!

I like that idea! Do you know if they make a low profile battery holder? Inside the plastic body there's maybe 3/16 of an inch of space... I don't think the battery holders I have seen would fit... though could possibly make a custom battery holder in the future.

@@wamindustriesOoh, that's definitely a tight fit. Probably not going to find one that low profile unfortunately, but you never know!

It's a pity you didn't solder the battery. For something to happen you would have to overheat the batteries a lot

Oh... thanks for that feedback!! I probably should have still given it a try. So the people experiencing the exploding batteries must have been leaving their iron on the battery for an extended period???

@@wamindustriesSoldering the wire to the battery may heat it up. if the batteries have welded legs that you solder to, then the risk is negligible. Sorry, I didn't notice, the old battery has legs and the new one doesn't. I was watching in the background while doing other things. Good thing you didn't solder.😊

@snik2pl thanks for the clarification... hey I watch RUclips often the same way... doing something at the same time so I totally understand
